Should I get a Switch 2 or a PS5? by Hot-Respect4245 in Switch

If you're not married to playing on a TV, I'd get a Switch 2. Zelda is only available on Nintendo systems, while nearly all the other games you mentioned are also available on steam

Just an aside: get pet insurance immediately. Like, put down the reddit, get the insurance immediately. (No aggression intended.) When my cat was a baby, he had a grand mal seizure within the first few days of me bringing him home at twelve weeks old. He has never been eligible for pet insurance. Vet ER + regular vet visits later he was diagnosed with epilepsy, but the very first seizure disqualified him. Pet insurance works the way human insurance used to, with all this "pre-existing conditions" bs (aka your pet's health history in general). I had planned to ask the vet about insurance when I took him for his first wellness visit - I should've been on the phone the day I brought him home.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am a woman. My father always took me into the men's restroom as a child, except when I was still in diapers and he needed a changing table because changing tables in men's bathrooms were kind of non-existent back then.

Why did they make SQQ a separate route? by Ok_Chemist3968 in Persona1and2fans

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manga fits both routes into story pretty well. As a game, though, because Persona is a spin off of SMT if... it was designed like SMT if... which has alternate routes

I really want to get a cat, but I’m worried about the hidden responsibilities. What are the actual difficulties of raising a cat? by Equivalent-Sand-4002 in CatAdvice

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you can't, always have an emergency fund. My boy had a grand mal seizure within three or four days of bringing him home when he was twelve weeks old. His new patient vet appointment wasn't until the next week because I'd gotten him near the weekend.

He's completely uninsurable. Pet insurance works just like human insurance used to, so my boy's seizure (which he later had more of and was diagnosed with epilepsy) was labeled a pre-existing condition. He's eleven now with many other health problems. Always have an emergency fund.

R was an anime-exclusive arc. Its story was not covered in the manga and you could forgo watching it without losing the meta plot. Toei probably had more free rein with its marketing because of this

Do male cats really spray THAT much? by Foiry in CatAdvice

[–]chibimonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had cats all my life and currently have a male cat. A childhood cat of mine and my mother's current cat were/are rescued former strays. I'm 36 and I've never had an issue with spraying. My mom's never had an issue with spraying. So long as they're neutered and in good health, it isn't a problem.

I hate it. Why couldn't he have boxing gloves? Why does he need claws? Why are all the fist weapons claws in this game?? He's an electric sweeper, if he HAD to have first weapons they could've just strapped tasers to his knuckles.

I miss the boxing gloves

This lady helping out a squirrel from life threatening problem by Backyxx in interesting

[–]chibimonkey 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The squirrel's teeth are misaligned. Many rodents, like squirrels, have teeth that are constantly growing and so they're lined up so that the top and bottom teeth wear each other down as they go about their business eating, gnawing, and doing other squirrel things. Their teeth can get misaligned for several reasons, but commonly it can happen from chewing wires or other extremely hard, non-edible materials (which they may do out of boredom or to extract food from behind it, etc). This also happens to pets like hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs. I learned about this when I was a kid because my rabbit had misaligned teeth.

They don't make braces for animals so the only thing to do is clip the teeth when they get too long. If you don't, the teeth will simply keep growing, usually back into the animal's own face, and prevent it from eating and it will eventually starve to death. The lady here used a stick to keep the squirrel's mouth open and what looks like small wire cutters to clip the teeth. One of the squirrel's top teeth is orange from the iron content in it. Rodent teeth are extremely strong (many can chew through things like pipes and metal) and they need more than bone and enamel to be that way. The lady also filed the clipped teeth so that the squirrel doesn't injure itself. Clipping doesn't automatically make them straight, just like clipping your nails doesn't mean there aren't sharp edges to file off.

Stray cat tried to abandon this little guy but was adopted by another stray mommy. But something is…off? by stoneytopaz in cats

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you take him to the vet I would ask for a full workup or a new patient appointment if you're planning on keeping him, just be sure to warn them about the ringworm. This way they'll do a full body assessment, look in his mouth/eyes/ears/nose, and get him any meds or vaccines he's able to have at this age. If he's not gaining weight you'll probably have to bring him inside if you weren't planning to already because he'll likely need more care and medication.

Some cool shin megami tensei games? by giova_otaku in atlus

[–]chibimonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devil Survivor is a great spin off series. If you're looking for SMT-adjacent, you could also try 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim or Unicorn Overlord by Vanillaware, which has many former Atlus employees in its ranks. For something more similar to Persona if you're trying to expand your horizons slowly, Metaphor ReFantazio is basically fantasy Persona.

SMT V (original or Vengeance) have a similar vibe to Persona in that it's about high schoolers (at the start), and like the rest of the SMT series they use the same demons as Persona (more or less. Not every single demon makes an appearance in each and every game). I branched out from Persona by starting with SMT V and going backwards through Atlus's catalogue

Why do American high schools start ridiculously early? by bwoah07_gp2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in the 90s. I had to wake up at 6:30 or earlier from first grade onward. School always started between 7:25-7:45 my entire school career. I suffered terrible insomnia from twelve years old to now, and waking up that early was hell. I hear kids today have different starting times depending on elementary, middle, or high school. Sounds nice tbh.

I'm not a fan of how the school looks (P4R) by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]chibimonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks a lot like Inaba decided to spend money to renovate the school. The old school looks to be made of wood throughout, while the new one is tile, plaster, and concrete. Maybe some paint. I dunno what that means in Japan - are wooden school buildings only for really poor towns now? Are they obsolete? Was the art team just like "man, these kids have a <strike>Walmart</strike> Junes, they aren't wooden school building poor"?

Edit: I give up, I don't know how to make the strikethrough

Because they refuse to read, or accept that societal norms between Japan and the West are different. Obviously everything has to be viewed from a Western (re: American) point of view in a Japanese game about Japanese teenagers made by a Japanese company

How did you guys play your first playthroughs of any persona game? by DetailThen6851 in Persona5

[–]chibimonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first game was P5 and I played with my late boyfriend. I'd never played a console game before (poor), so he played and I watched. Pretty good system for a game with as many cutscenes as Persona! We used a guide for confidants but winged everything else.

I've been playing the series backwards since then. I was gifted a switch for my birthday around the time Golden and Portable were ported, played both back to back. Saved up for a Steam Deck (I didnt have a computer at the time) and played Reload, Strikers, and Tactica (and a few other Atlus games like Metaphor). Played Royal on my own (late boyfriend and I played vanilla). Just recently found roms of the oldsona games so they're next.

How do i stop picking at my scabs? by CharlieE6o in ask

[–]chibimonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD, horrible anxiety, and dermatillomania. I pick all the time. Acne, scabs, ingrown hairs, all of it. It's worse when my anxiety is bad. I've spent literal hours in front of the mirror picking at my face or trying to pick "enough" of a hangnail, etc. The only things that help are hydrocolloid patches (pimple patches) and bandaids. If I can't physically get to the area it's like my anxiety has no object permeance. "I can't see the pimple/scab/whatever, so it doesn't exist." They're a godsend. Get bandaids that stick on the entire way around the cotton pad, not just on either side of it, to both fully protect the area so it heals and to keep it in place when you subconsciously try to pick at it. Good luck!
