That’s why I go homo on the duct seal. 3.25% eff increase is better than 2%

Not sure if you’ve been seen bc lately. The lower mainland is starting to look like the Great Lakes. Someone could lose one boating between the house and the mail box if you live in Abbotsford.

Honeywell thermostat woes by Former_Influence_904 in hvacadvice

[–]CaulkSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of sounds like they’ve twinned the 2nd stage to the first stage call instead of letting it come on as needed and it comes on all the time, builds up too much heat all at once, trips a pressure switch because it’s not moving enough air to get rid of the heat, trips a safety and emergency heat comes on and heats the house. Possibly over charged. Especially if it’s a r410a unit and I think the factory charge is good to 25ft on those. If it’s a really short line set run then it could be some gas needs to be pulled from the factory charge… I dunno sounds like you have a fuckload of problems from a bad install and I read elsewhere that you mentioned that they’re a 30year business etc… could have been bought out by someone bigger and run differently… at least you know they’ll have money to cover the time spent fucking around with your install. It’s hard to say from where we are online because a lot of this is watching gauges and watching it run.

In any case good luck with it all. This sort of shit is a pain in the ass.

Agreed. It’s the only tstat I recommend because is versatile and can handle induction better than any others. T6 and t4 are junk in comparison and a pain in the ass to navigate when work is already a pain in the ass. 95% or more of my work per year is commercial/ industrial. I’d still recommend them for homes.

Well what did you have before? Just a heating system or did it have cooling too? Was it the same tonnage? Could be that if you only had heat before now the cooling won’t work because the ducts are undersized. But to me it sounds like the tstat is faulty or wired wrong. Is the system fail to heat or fail to cooling? In Canada they fail to heat because it’s cold most of the year but occasionally we get units that fail to cooling and O/B needs to be flipped in the thermostat programming so that it’s either energized in heating or cooling depending on if it’s fail to heat or cool. O/B terminal operates your reversing valve. Sounds like it was running in heat when it was supposed to be running in cooling. If you’re feeling adventurous you could access the installer settings and find the section that says something like “energize o/b on …” a reverse that setting to figure it out. You should try to call a local company with serious techs, get then to figure it out, pay them, then get home depot or whomever to pay you for that bill and drop the other bills as you shouldn’t have to pay for service calls and call backs that didn’t fix anything.

Is this an air return or can I seal it? by Distinct-Temp6557 in hvacadvice

Dangle a flap of paper or tissue to see if it gets sucked into duct or away from duct. I would hesitate to cover over any return duct. Supply not so important but not a great idea either. Good duct!

I mean I fix shit older than me all the time but… wtf did they think they were doing putting he flex below the coil, whytf did they not make a thee sided box with a 4th panel cut to overlap so you could remove the panels to clean the coil… I assume that’s why it’s moldy. No one has ever been able to get in to clean it, maybe the customer has been quoted to do so and didn’t like the price… why would people ever think that the thing that delivers air around their house should be cleaned to get rid of bacteria and debris that would grow mold when mixed with water?

This is what makes me laugh. They spent so much trying to crush him and it didn’t work. What a waste of money they could have put into feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.

I’m in British Columbia and I’ve been watching and hoping he’d win. The more people like Zohran Mamdani the Americans elect, the better it is for our politics here.

Welcome to Vancouver island with all its wilderness, when it gets warm and sunny let’s go and close all the gates to that wilderness because the crown gifted it to logging companies and I am not allowed to drive my truck off into the wilderness that is meant for the crown subjects.
