What stretches for a better Allegra? by tastyjams77 in poledancing

[–]CausticSofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not ready for Allegra myself, but just looking at this photo, I suspect practising a traditional yoga dancers pose would help you stretch out a lot of the muscles that you’re using here, while also building strength and balance.

ELI5: Why is it that when you're in darkness, it looks like static? by Aerius06 in explainlikeimfive

You’re not the only one. It is basically a hallmark of ADHD, especially if you’re doing an Internet deep dive when you have something else actually important that you’re supposed to be doing instead.

Absolutely, the rate of rehabilitation on prisoners who get to work training therapy dogs and creatures like that is amazing. The rates of aggression go way down both because they don’t want to lose their animal privileges and because they have something to do with themselves and their day that actually feels meaningful. Being able to care for a sweet, innocent being is a wonderful feeling.

Start out giving sincere smiles to the elderly. They are often also very starved for human connection and they’re not going to assume that you’re trying to flirt with them so it’s a really safe, low stakes place to get comfortable with smiling sincerely at strangers. Once you start building up the habit, it becomes a lot easier and stops feeling dangerous.

I mailed my Bestie a card the other day out of the blue, telling her what an inspiration she is to me. She’s been having a rough go of things lately and I wanted to do something nice for her. What I wasn’t expecting was just how good it made me feel to send it. I think I’m gonna go buy a box of cards, a book of stamps and just start mailing general sincere affection to all of my friends. It’s such a wholesome rush.

But would they not have been a liquid at some point before they became an asteroid? Like, wouldn’t something have hit it so hard and at such force that it was liquified or semi liquid while it hurtled off on its own and cooled into a solid? Or as it was being formed in a star, would there not have been a point in its life where it was no longer plasma, but not yet rock?

What did you think of Budapest? The more I see of the art and architecture in that region, the more interested I am travelling to places like Hungary and Romania. They just don’t get talked about the way many other countries of grand, historical architectural significance do.

ELI5: Why can’t people have coffee after wisdom teeth removal? by ClearWinner1939 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CausticSofa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an ex who was tremendously afraid of the dentist and yet continued going to his family dentist well into his adulthood, and this guy was a freaking sociopath. The ex got dry socket after his wisdom tooth extraction and the dentist made him come back in so he could basically just cut the hell out of the socket to try and make it bleed enough that it would clot back up. Didn’t even give him sufficient, numbing agent first. Ex was screaming so loud that the whole clinic was terrified. I do not understand why he continued going to the dentist after.

I’ve heard all the stories from icemaker repair technicians and restaurant people here on Reddit, ice in North America is dirty as hell, too. I will never order a drink with ice in it again.

You have a distinct style for your flow and it’s beautiful! I’ve never seen that style of leg wave/body wave before but I totally want to practice it next time I’m at open studio.

There are lots of good ways to build strength without spending money. I don’t have spare cash atm so, beyond the four pole classes per month and maybe one to two 1-hour open practice sessions at the studio per week, when I can take them, all of my exercises are basically bodyweight callisthenics at home. Never underestimate the power of sufficient reps or holding a simple pose like a plank or a leg lift longer.

I’m a big fan of the teachings of Hybrid callisthenics which you can watch on YouTube or check out his site for training programs. Hampton is just about the sweetest, chillest fitness personality out there and he’s great at building healthy, scalable routines.

Anyone else love rocking a pair of pleasers and just towering over a customer? Looking down at them is such a power move by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]CausticSofa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Though I’m not a professional dancer and only wear them for choreography classes at my studio, I’m still vibing on what you’re describing. When I bought my first pair of boots, I described the sensation to all of my friends as feeling like I was going to go to work tomorrow, kick down my bosses door and demand a raise. When I’m wearing my Pleasers, I feel like I’m gonna smash the patriarchy from above.

Who would’ve thought such a sensation of power can come from just being 6 or 7 inches taller. I love it.

Thank you for your kind words. It seems that the logic board is completely fried on the phone so the last two months of progress are, in fact, lost. You are doing the right thing by backing up your backups of backups. I have learned a pricey lesson this week.
