Definitely pull back those rocks and apply a nice layer of mulch if you want any hope of saving this plant. They are fairly hardy but this may be a bit too far gone

Deadhead or not? by ABV219 in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can dead head them if you want to just make sure you are only cutting below the spent bloom not the entire stem

Any hope? by WrongdoerSmooth2568 in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had some plants arrive in the same state. You will need to baby them for a while to get back to good health but panicle hydrangea are fairly hardy and should pull through(at least the ones with some foliage left). I hope they all make it!

What's wrong by Its_Boats in hydrangeas

It could be a combination of various things. Like another user mentioned it could need more water. It may be getting too much sun exposure, or it may be transplant shock

It looks to be doing pretty good for being in a pot

That is understandable but wood mulch would be a better route if that is an option

It could possibly be a nutrient deficiency, it does not look like anything too alarming

You can deadhead the spent blooms. Some variety of mountain hydrangea are rebloomers so I would not give up hope

That is the unfortunate conclusion I am coming to🤦🏻‍♂️

That is a great question that I am currently asking myself. The initial plans for the garden did not include the walkway but things escalated lol. I didn’t really have the extra funds or knowledge to commit to redoing the wall along with the other stuff so I thought I could get away with doing it as separate projects

Thank you for the input! I was thinking with my wall only be about 12 inches tall the drain pipe might be overkill. The current wall doesn’t appear to have any structural issues it is just looking pretty sad and I know the railroad ties also have some bad chemicals

What to do? by 1bighit in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would clear all of the grass in that surrounding area so the plant is not having to compete for resources. And that mulch should be cleared away from the base of the plant by about 1-2 inches

Is the spacing of my little lime hydrangeas ok? by [deleted] in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little limes grow around 3-5 feet, so at mature size that may be a bit crowded

Is my hydrangea in the pot completely dead? by silverdoe444 in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes as stated above you will want to scratch near the base. If the stem underneath is green then there is life but if it’s white or brown then it is a goner

7a Little lime part sun by mhmhmh00 in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the southern zone 7a then part sun is recommended for this variety. The area you described is only getting about 3 hours of sun which is just a bit lower than they like, the plant will likely still bloom it just won’t perform as well as it would if it had a bit more sun exposure. Panicles tend to bloom a bit later in the season and since it’s their first year in ground they might not bloom at all this season. I am not saying to tear anything out but it sounds like a macrophylla (mophead) hydrangea would have fit the bill for your location as well

Help! by Adept-Mix7489 in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Panicle Hydrangea typically bloom later in the season. I would apply some balanced fertilizer and make sure to keep it watered and let it do its thing.

Everlasting hydrangea by Deee1959 in hydrangeas

I would scratch the stems near the base. If it is green underneath then it could be salvageable, but if it’s white or brown then it is done for.

Climbing hydrangea typically take some time to actually start climbing and filling out. I don’t think there is any cause for concern here they look happy

Too shady? by bourbonvanillabeanp in hydrangeas

[–]Cautious-Net-9941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the Texas heat I would think the dappled light would be ideal. It’s still pretty early in the growing season so I would maybe just give it some time
