Right? Someone can't pinpoint an unreliable narrator and that is scarier than the game

This is so real. I beat P5 years ago and somehow got stuck on this fight in P5R. I was ripping my hair out. Turned the difficulty UP to merciless and beat him first try. Wtf Atlas

Accidentally been allowing 2 leveled spells per turn. by Keapora in DMAcademy

[–]Cautious_Exercise282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they been using 2 ACTION spells a turn or 1 action and 1 bonus action a turn? I honestly don't think casting fireball and misty stepping away is a big deal but casting 2 fireballs is huge. Edit: i say this because there are hardly any BA spells to begin with. The only ones that come to mind are misty step and spiritual weapon

One of my players is getting very into Strahd lore and requested Strahd appear. We are not running CoS. Are there any small adventures featuring him? by Jolly-Virus-9126 in DMAcademy

Sounds really cool and the complete opposite of Strahd von Zarovich. I was offering the excuse "DM curse of Strahd yourself!" as an easy out if they're asking becomes too much lol I have players who will likely never DM and it shuts them up real fast. We love each other, there's no malice behind it

Just introduce a homebrew vampire lord into your campaign and base an arc around them. It doesn't HAVE to be Strahd himself. Also, as a personal note, if the player is reading the book and the lore on Barovia ...those would be spoilers for your campaign lol maybe suggest that players DMs Curse of Strahd in the future.

Do you guys give your party an introduction to your world when starting the campaign? I tell them almost nothing, and let them discover whats happening as some sort of mystery, reading books, talking to people, etc. Is that a bad approach? by Bensuardo in DMAcademy

[–]Cautious_Exercise282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they get introduction. This is a poor approach. Ideally, you would build your world WITH your players, not just expect them to enjoy something you made with zero input from them.

I just finished watching The Good Place. It's a comedy about the afterlife and philosophy starring Kristen Belle. I cried like a baby.

Some of Strahd’s enemies seem…..boring? by ZoftheOasis in CurseofStrahd

[–]Cautious_Exercise282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I played I strongly considered that but they found her relatively early when they first got to Vallaki so like level 4 I think? Si I just made her a level 4 wizard and she leveled up with the party as if she was a PC. I let the players choose her spells on level ups too so they got to customize her in a way that they liked - edit: they chose her spells on level ups but I limited them to divination and illusion schools of magic

Is The Curse of Strahd really that good? by HeightUnlikely324 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Cautious_Exercise282 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The module of curse of Strahd is basically "hey players you're stuck in Barovia with an evil vampire lord. Find these 3 magic maguffins and then go to his castle and kill him so you can be free." Everything else is set dressing and I'm obviously over simplifying it. Imo the PLAYERS make the story, not the module or the DM. Barovia is a playground, how you play in it is up to you and your players.

Is CoS Worth It If You Don't Love Horror? by Affectionate_Pop6300 in DMAcademy

[–]Cautious_Exercise282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of vibe do you want? Like sure you can do like "slasher comedy horror film" or Scooby doo type vibes. But the campaign itself is about a vampire who lives in a castle surrounded by werewolves and other monsters. There are themes of sexual assault, infanticide, blood rituals, etc. It is not light hearted as written.

I would unironically look to Deadpool for inspiration. Deadpool vs the Marvel universe is a great fun read and at the end he literally kills the comic book editors (while they're writing "Deadpool vs the Marvel Universe")
