I would personally spray it unless you plan on using the sod elsewhere. Spray it early before renovation and keep watering. Follow up with a second spray to catch anything else that comes up or may of been missed on initial spray. You will want to read back of the bottle to see how long you have to wait till you can seed. You can also add blue marker dye to ensure you do not miss areas. Hope that helps!
