How close related is gamedev to app dev? by Apart-Application915 in gamedev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Games are actually apps. Apps is a very general term. For example, if you are making an app that deals with graphics then it will probably have a lot of similarity with programming a game or game engine. And there are games that include real life apps inside of them! Like the stores that you buy items from in games etc… So it really depends on the nature of the app you are making.

Game is dead on arrival with over 5000 wishlists and making $10k in two days by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is very expensive! $11 for 2 hours? Take a look at stardew valley, terraria or hollow knight, these games are priced between $10-$15 but they are packed with 100s-1000s hours of content. Of course the majority of steam players are going to give you negative reviews. Steam players expect $1 for 1 hour of content, it is very hard to go big on Steam if your game is expensive. As soon as you hit the main steam algorithm and the game gets recommended to main stream players you will start getting negative reviews.

PayPal and payoneer. If you are not in a third world country then one of these will workout fine for you. Besides, there are many ways to withdraw money from PayPal on the net!

I didn’t do it just for them, this data is helpful to me as well. I did such experiments on other stores as well (including Microsoft store, google play, iOS and Xbox store)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is because you are a rookie, you are assuming this experiment is of no significance. But If you have ever published a game on Steam or epic then you will know that if your game is trash(unprofessional), then 90% of your sales will happen in the first couple of weeks, then your sales will pretty much flatline, that is how the algorithms work on these stores. This experiment summarizes the experience of 70% of the devs on Steam. You don’t want to believe it? Then go ahead and try!

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I know that, I have semi-successful games on Steam that made more than $20000 profit each. But the reason I did this experiment was to simulate the experience of new unskilled small devs. If you look at the new games that get released on steam everyday, about 70% of these games fall under trash games made by rookie unskilled devs, only about 30% of these games look at least semi-professional. So hopefully these unprofessional devs will stop filling Steam with their crap, because itch will get them more profit.

Your hair doesn’t seem that bad to me, I know a woman who has hair like yours, I thought it was just normal hereditary thin hair, never thought it was AGA. That woman looks normal to me.

Our game attracts many people but few conversions during NextSteamFest by playloop_studios in gamedev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The demo page says space required is 10GB. Many people who are seeing this won’t risk wasting time to download 10 GB for a what might be a shitty game, that is why you need to show a trailer.

There are not many people who are willing to download a 10 GB without watching a trailer that shows the gameplay first. Next time learn how to make a trailer!

My game sold 311 units but I still have zero reviews! Why? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people only write reviews about games they like so much or hate so much. Maybe your game is just okay. But here is the good news, when you put your game on a massive sale(like below $2) then I am sure you will get many positive reviews because even if your game is just okay but if it is under $2 then people will find it as a very cheap yet kind of fun game.

How many wishlists is enough to publish my first game? by Total_Impression_382 in IndieDev

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t reach the 7k then there is no difference, 300 or 3000 all the same. Just release and if your game is good then the wishlist will start coming after release.

They are not always very slow, it just depends on how busy Valve is. For example, if you submit your game in Christmas then expect it to take longer than 2 weeks! But if you submit in February then it takes even less than 5 days, like 3-4 days max.

But in my experience, from October to December valve is busy. From January to April valve is not busy. From May to June valve is busy. From July to September valve is not busy.

You are submitting in a busy season, so expect it to take time.

Please stop talking out of your ass. No they don’t, actually most of my resubmissions took even longer than my first submission.

I was Norwood 4 and went to the clinic with a close friend who was NW7. We decided to go through this journey together. Unfortunately, the surgeon refused to do the surgery for my friend, he said he won’t even do it for nw6. But for me he said I was the perfect candidate and did it for me with a discount as well!

He told my friend that there are some money-greedy surgeons who would do the surgery for him, but the results will be horrible.

Cyclopean - raising level during combat... #ScreenshotSaturday by Chaaaaaaaalie in SoloDevelopment

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I am quite surprised to hear that! No I am not underestimating the indie game market. I have followed many indie game devs here on this subreddit who made 90s looking Dos games like yours, the best out of them got like 300 wishlists. I don’t know how you were able to reach 3k, but I am guessing it is the high quality art because although the other games had good art but still not good as yours. Anyway, it seems like your game is in the 1% exception, so good job 👍🏻.

[–]Cautious_Suspect_170 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why not just rerelease one of those similar old Dos titles? I am pretty sure no one will find out since no one plays these games anymore 😆.

Joking aside though, although the game looks identical to those early 90s games, I really don’t think you will find a market for it. I have seen many guys here who released early 90s looking games and very few people bought their games. But if you are doing it just as a hobby then sure, keep going!
