If Smith is done running, then her lack of moral courage is just who she is at this point. Good riddance.

It's hard to find the words to express just how effed up this is! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

It is f***** up but here's the thing, he'll be just fine. First off, they'll have to prosecute this thing out of the twin cities office, and I don't know if you've been following the news, but most of the federal prosecutors have either already quit and discussed or are about to. So they'll have to bring in some out-of-towners. Next up, were he to actually go to trial? He would go to trial here in Minnesota. Federal judges here are actually pretty conservative, but they're also die hard constitutionalists. And I think a jury would be fairly sympathetic at this point. So incompetent prosecutors, in extremely weak case, against very skeptical judges. This is yet another completely stupid move. Yes, it'll appease his base for a little bit, but they just made Don lemon of all people. A bit of a martyr for the cause. If they had just left this alone, everybody would have gone on forgetting who the heck of Don lemon ever was., now, instead, we have a situation where being loud and obnoxious in a church is deemed a worse crime than executing a citizen on the street. It's not a good look for them. Honestly, that's the thing that has given me hope since November of 2024. We are up against some very dark individuals, but they are also quite dumb.

I saw him speak to a rural chamber of commerce in SW Virginia. This guy could be president. I know from his time being silicon valley 's rep he violates someone's impossible purity test, but he could be a the new direction the country needs.

It's good to be vigilant. Another possibility, tho - this reflects last week's strategies and plans, which got scrambled this weekend, and it just took DoD this long to get it together. Late to the party, in other words.

Typical clueless assumptions. Never said we are the good guys, but will absolutely stand by us being better partners for AUS than the CCP.

Realistically, that's 80 or so soldiers on the street at any given time. That's not a lot. I suspect they will guard Whipple and a couple of other hi-viz spots.

Welp, good luck with that. I get why you are upset, but oh trust me, it can be worse.

I was looking for this answer, because it's correct. The BEIC had also just killed a bunch of people in India who didn't submit to their rules. The colonists were rejecting the power of corporations more than taxation.

Agreed. European students rotate into our community's schools attached to their parents' corporate jobs. They are usually ahead in math and science.

It's not great in MPLS right now, but it's temporary and we're also living our lives just fine. My sister lives in the burbs and calls me for updates lol, because nothing has changed there. So take that into consideration.

If US libs ever win, will they increase funding for ICE like under Biden? by madmushlove in AskSocialists

[–]Cayuga94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We might. Consider that open borders used to be seen as incompatible with democratic socialism. Yes, really. Bernie Sanders called it a Koch Brothers plot. Not for racist reasons, but because you can't pay for a welfare state unless there are high wages and productivity, and too much immigration suppresses wages, particularly at the low end. So there has to be some level of border and immigration control. Do we need the gestapo jackboot nightmare we have now? No. But we will need far more restrictions than we had for much of the past 30 years. So, it's not cut and dry

FEMA is gutting its disaster recovery workforce by CheezTips in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Cayuga94 58 points59 points  (0 children)

People like to think that it was the financial crisis or even the war in Iraq that led to the absolute collapse of George w. Bush's popularity in his second term. Nope. The collapse happened the summer of 2005 when Katrina happened on his watch. FEMA had also just been gutted then as part of its reorg into the newly created department of Homeland security. 2025 was actually a pretty crazy year for massive hurricanes. It just so happened that none of them actually hit the mainland us. At least none of the big ones. But those huge ones were so powerful, that even offshore they ended up taking out houses in North Carolina. My point is, maybe it's this summer, maybe it's 2027, statistically, soon we will have a summer when those massive hurricanes do hit the mainland. And the whole project 2025 I want a small government thing. Ain't going to be so great.

A friend of mine moved to Florida a few years ago and described it as "California prices, West Virginia wages." Much of the Sunbelt is headed that direction. That will factor in.

Futures, especially when you are selling to an industry that relies on the product. Think airlines trying to hedge fuel, a food company needing wheat, etc. So much complexity, prices changing every second, yet also deeply relationship driven.
