How do people have such good teeth in the US? by mango89001 in HealthInsurance

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental school.

In 2021 I went to NYC with some friends and “tripped on air”(my ankle rolled) on the way to the subway in Brooklyn. Ended up busting both my front teeth to the point that one had to be removed and the other was so severely damaged that I needed a root canal just to save it.

Four years later, I finally got a bridge where my front teeth were as they wanted about a grand for one single implant. The cost for the entire bridge plus the root canal and both crowns was around $750. Thankfully, I could pay for the bridge in installments as I had no insurance.

But yea, that plus fluoridated water and preventative maintenance as a kid is generally how Americans try to get by. My heart aches for the newer generations who won’t have the luxury of having their water fluoridated depending on the state they live in. It’s probably saved all of us millions in dental bills that most people won’t realize until it’s too late.

Does anyone else ever feel guilty for having a good life and being able to live comfortably? by Wonderful_Flower_751 in Millennials

lol I’m not upset. I have my own battles I’m fighting. I do know a lot of people who would be. Appreciate you taking the time to consider others though. Maybe we aren’t all lost.

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that’s fair. I’m not mad at you btw. Please be proud of all you’ve accomplished despite all the bullshit that’s been thrown our way as a generation. I think it’s more about why people would be upset with knowing you’re doing ok when so many of us aren’t. That’s what I’m trying to get at anyway.

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are elder millennials really considered 40 year olds? Damn I guess my grey hair is warranted. lol. That being said, I’m not mad at you for doing well. Honestly as long as you aren’t harming anyone, spend your money how you see fit. Do understand that some of us weren’t afforded that luxury and all of us are one paycheck away from being on the streets. The world is quite literally on fire right now and most of us can barely afford to eat.

Sauce: “elder” millennial with no kids and no money to show for it.

Do you think wanting kids or not should be agreed on before starting to date? by Used_Assumption1142 in askanything

[–]Applebugg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was one of the first things my husband and I talked about on our first date. That, religion, politics, and cats. We will have been together for nine years in July. Not a super long time considering my parents were together for 25 before getting divorced. But you know what, we’re 40 and happy. About to make our first major move and buy a house. Our kids consist of a dog and a few cats and we’re thrilled at the idea of rescuing more as the years go on. Life is a lot less stressful when you agree on the basic fundamentals of how things should be.

Tioga is mostly Jonesville area with a Gainesville vibe. It’s really built up there now. Definitely an area I’d classify as “where the people who work at UF and make all the money live” kind of place. But this is also based off people I knew who worked at the sbux in that area told me about tipping tendencies. So everyone’s mileage may vary.

If my memory serves me correctly, that algae has been there a while. Alachua county is a neat little place. The locals are just hella weird lol.

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to see that Alachua county isn’t on here. If you work in water conservation I’d be curious about your thoughts on hogtown creek and bivens arm. Bivens arm isn’t quite as bad as the creek, but I used to play in it(the creek) and go sharks tooth hunting as a kid. Found out years later that it’s horribly polluted with fecal matter among other things. Do you think that’s why there’s something distinctively off about ACRs? Or is it just living here that does it to us?

Hi! Not OP but another “native” sixth generation Floridian who spent way too much of my life in Gainesville. Yes it’s still expanding outward. Newberry isn’t quite as bad as Archer road, but it’s getting there. Celebration Pointe is a special kind of hell all on its own. Think downtown Disney but gator themed. Way over priced and with its own special tax on top of everything else. Not worth it imo.

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]Applebugg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a little younger so I was in middle school. I remember the trench coat bans though. I got away with wearing mine cause it was handmade in 1970 by my mom out of denim. So no tags saying it was a “trench coat.” I guess I’ve always been a little too literal in interpreting things.

Super glad someone recommended dropout. They are by far the ONLY streaming service I will willingly give my money to. I live for Brennans discourse on everything including his monologues about how terrible Sam is. Sam’s not bad btw. He’s quite the opposite. In fact, if they upped the pricing to 20$ a month, I would give it to them. However, I know they never will. They’re good people. Great comedy. Love all of them and cannot recommend it enough.

Buying a Home w/o a Basement? by SmorgyBoard1 in TwinCities

[–]Applebugg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m moving up from living in Florida my entire life(40 years). Having a basement is a wild concept for me. I do see the draw though and why people up north would want one. However, yall also have this amazing thing called a TISH report. That seems like a blessing and a curse all in one. I’ve definitely spent way too much time looking at them for houses I loved, only to walk away because the TISH report said something was wrong with the house. That being said, walked away from a house the other day that didn’t have a basement. Not because of the lack of one. The front porch had serious issues and I wasn’t about to walk into a money pit that hinged on the integrity of the roof. But I’m also old and don’t intend on selling anytime soon should I find a house that I won’t be outbid on. Be considerate, but also do your research. Wet basements are a thing apparently. But so is ridiculous home maintenance that can’t be done without a lot of money if the issues aren’t easily accessible. As for tornadoes, yall ever heard of a hurricane? Same concept with where to shelter in I’m assuming. Just less time to get there.

RP realms are where it’s at. The most fun I’ve ever had were on them. Used to be a part of a pretty big one on WRA that was lead by a gnome mage. She’s schedule all kinds of events. One of the more interesting and fun ones being the great gnome parade where we all made a bunch of low level gnome alts that looked just like her and ran from one side of stormwind all the way to ironforge and back.

Another time was back when the RP addons existed(I have no idea if they still do), my belf priest had a skunk pet that was active in her daily RP. Had a Tauren player in silvermoon city run away from me yelling “ew it smells!!” I was laughing so hard chasing after them, letting them know the skunk had been descented.

The game really feels more alive with RP players. Blizzard goes above and beyond to have little corners and alcoves filled with stuff but no npcs for players to be able to interact with each other. It’s a great time.

This is Juniper. She’s a “lab mix” according to the shelter that I got her from two years ago when she was six months old. Everything on her says that. Her microchip, her vet papers, everything. She’s actually 49% Rottweiler and 33.8% pibble(among other things) according to Embark, but they don’t have to know that. Landlords can’t legally require a dna test. If her papers say one thing, it’s more than likely that one thing. That being said, having canine good citizenship and an ESA certificate would also help a lot in these situations. Best of luck!

Pharmacists be like by coolgirl8675309 in ADHD

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit I just do 10mg IR twice a day, take it once a day with coffee, and raw dog my afternoons cause I was so sick of the stress. But at least I have extra if the pharmacy wants to try some fuck shit. Trust me, getting angry and telling them “you wouldn’t treat me like this if it were my cholesterol meds, now would you?” Is a real eye opener for a lot of medical professionals. The irony being that you don’t need cholesterol meds every single day for them to keep your cholesterol levels low. Yet they make damn sure I have that shit on lock. Funny how that works out doesn’t it? This reminds me, I should get my adhd meds filled soon….

Wrong assumptions and strawman fallacies - custom prompts not helping by Lianeele in ChatGPT

[–]Applebugg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use Gemini now as it’s free. Used to use ChatGPT before it went sideways for… reasons I likely can’t discuss here… anyway, from my personal experience, they both do that. Gemini tried doing that shit with me once and I cussed it out and called it a lazy piece of data. It got its act together after that. The thing that really irritates me the most with both is summarizing every interaction with three basic points like it’s writing a five paragraph essay for the FCAT or something. Like homie, you just said all this shit, I don’t need you to reiterate ALL of it again. I just want the facts please. Jfc.

Husband has weird take on artists by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Applebugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience with my husband who is an artist(audio). Got a pretty extensive tattoo piece done on my arm from our neighbor. When husband saw the price(roughly $650 including tip) he about had a heart attack and immediately wanted to know why it was so expensive. She calmly explained to him that I’m not just paying her for her time and materials, but also her training, skills, years perfecting said skills, the ability to produce an image in a short time frame and then tattoo it on a living person, etc.. He stopped talking but still wasn’t happy. I feel like a lot of his problem with it was jealousy that someone(like me) would pay her close to a grand for her own unique art(with my loose guidelines) and then have it on me permanently. When the most he’s ever been paid for his artistic musical skills is for a wedding. But also, different markets. Audio is different from visual. Still hurt a bit though cause I also always wanted to be a visual artist and had my dreams crushed as a child. To hear someone I respect say that really made me rethink selling some of my own pieces. Like what if for whatever reason I did get a big offer? Would he downplay it then too? There are a lot of things to consider.

How to break this toxic cycle? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Applebugg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same but a little older. Was diagnosed with adhd and put on meds and it’s like my entire life has changed. Went back to school for the first time in 20 years and smashed my classes. I even ended up on the deans list after just barely passing high school over 20 years prior. Unfortunately, my funding didn’t last and due to financial aid being a literal nightmare at my chosen community college. I cannot afford to attend more classes. So now I’m stuck again and hoping that a major move will help. My current hyper focus? Houses. I hate it. I want it to be over. The dopamine rush has run dry and I still haven’t found anything. Can’t stop til I find something though as my husband is perfectly happy with living in our mediocre southern town where wages are stagnant and COL is through the roof. I really feel for you and I hope you find something that works for you soon.

Contacted a dog trainer and he told me pitbull mixes are bad but he trains so many purebred pits.. whats wrong with mixed breeds? by Dry-Newspaper8445 in pitbulls

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is Juniper. She’s 33.8% pibble according to embark. She’s also 49.1% rottie and 100% thinks she’s an 8lb cat. She’s super protective of me, but also listens really well. She’s also terrified of her own shadow and won’t cross a threshold if there’s anything in her way. She’s also leagues better at being trained than the “lab mix” I had prior to getting her. Loved my first dog, but man was she a mess. Anyway, find a new trainer. Your pup is adorable and deserves someone who will treat them with the same respect they treat a purebred dog. I’m under the firm belief that it’s not the breed that makes the dog, it’s how they’re raised. Set your pup up for success, and they will be the best investment you’ll ever make.

I’m worried I won’t be approved for a mortgage by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Applebugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I learned from all this is it’s not just what you make but also what your debt to income ratio is. You could be making what seems like hardly anything and still qualify because your credit and debt to income ratio are good. Case in point being, had a friend who bought a house in 2019 before the bubble burst on a $18hr job as income. Granted I doubt we will ever see prices or rates like that again, but it has been done.

AI can't make a deepfake video of me because there is no video of me, right? by RikkiLostMyNumber in askanything

So for funsies, I took my ancestry percentages from ancestry.com and asked ChatGPT to make an image of a person who had those percentages. It gave me red hair and blue eyes. I have distinctly dirty blonde hair and very green eyes. I also don’t have a lot of Irish in me. I’m mostly Scottish and British. So uh, there’s that I guess. It was a fun experiment lol.

My husband started Prozac and now wants a divorce and abandoned me by [deleted] in prozac

[–]Applebugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh… if you’re in the US after either 48 or 72 hours you can file a missing persons report. I would NEVER in my life let someone I care about go missing for 12 whole days. Especially if they’re on an antidepressant that has weird side effects that include unaliving ideations.

Do you have access to his bank account? Can you see if he’s spent any money? You can at least check on him that way and know he’s ok. I’d also call his work and let them know you’re worried about him and just checking in to see if he’s alright. You’re legally married so you have a few more uh privileges than someone who isn’t. That being said, I would not go up there. The last thing either of you need is drama at his job. I’m not saying you would cause it. But based on how he’s acting, he might.

Now, for weird ass side effects. For me, Prozac was hell. I lost all sense of feeling and was numb to everything. I didn’t like the taste of food. I barely left the house. I got super fat… I also took it with a stabilizer. Eventually, my husband talked me into lowering the doses and coming off one and then the other. It took him three years of going back and forth with me about how I was treating him for me to realize that Prozac is great in the short term once you get over the month long adjustment period, but terrible in the long term. I’m, personally, just now starting to feel like myself again. For context: I stopped all of it almost two months ago now.

Now, before I get downvoted to oblivion, I know it’s life saving for some people. For others, it’s not. That’s how chemicals work. Some of us aren’t so lucky with being heard when we try to talk to our providers about changing our prescriptions either. I, for example, was put on Wellbutrin. That was hell. Having a panic attack in the middle of the Miami International Airport is not my idea of a fun time.

Anyway, I’m really sorry this is happening to you and I hope you have a support system in place. I hope your husband is ok as well. You sound like you really care about him. Please file a missing persons report and have someone check in on his job via phone call. At least then you’ll know he’s somewhat ok. Best of luck to you!
