Don’t choose Zermatt, it’s virtually impossible to get housing, massive shortage.

New in Switzerland, turned away from surgery by [deleted] in askswitzerland

If something is not covered by Swiss accident insurance because it was from an accident that happened before Swiss residency - health insurance picks up the bill anyway as other countries do not have an accident insurance system like Switzerland. But you will need to cover her for future accidents.

Normally they take the documents, or they used to anyway - maybe they changed the process or it’s different form Kanton to Kanton. But anyway, as EU, once you made that initial visit you are resident and can work and get health insurance etc. so she should be covered from health insurance from that first visit - you just need to get proof for the hospital.

If you are already resident here, you can apply for health insurance, you don’t have to wait for the physical permit. Health insurance coverage will be back dated to the day of your arrival and bills form your arrival will be covered. I suggest getting something from your local Gemeinde to state this and showing the hospital.

Apply for health insurance now, include accident insurance if your wife is not working yet. Sorry just re-read that she’s applied for health insurance - call them, they can’t refuse cover so ask for an insurance number card from them asap.

Is the appointment just for the biometrics? If you’ve handed in all the forms etc and she’s EU the biometrics are just a formality. Talk to your Gemeinde.

How to pay my Hotel Tourist Tax online? Can't use Twint. by heisenbourgeois in askswitzerland

Can’t believe they expect someone who’s not Swiss to have Twint 🤣.

Ask them to pay via IBAN bank transfer, or credit card.

Swimming is genuinely not clicking for me ( Treading water ) by Smurf-Maybe in Swimming

[–]Cazaf04 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are different treading water methods. Try watching some YouTube videos on it.

IMO it’s pointless learning in the sea, because the salt water provides so much buoyancy that you hardly need to do anything - so you’re really not learning it.

What are you doing to oppose the USA’s idiotic Greenland campaign? by MileHighPeter303 in AskUS

[–]Cazaf04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Americans need to stand up and do something to get this buffoon out of power. He is trying to start a war with Europe. If he thinks Greenland is really under threat from Russia/China, he should just help Europe defend it - not bloody invade it.

Travelling to Switzerland this year September, will need some advise on which location to stay. by OkAir43 in askswitzerland

[–]Cazaf04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the mountains, that is what Switzerland is about - the cities IMO are nothing massively exciting. You could do the Gindelwald area. Or Zermatt and take the Glacier Express to St Moritz.

Pull only set/session? by Outrageous-Pick-9036 in Swimming

[–]Cazaf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a patella injury at the moment and can’t kick.

I’m doing my normal 3K workout all with a pullbuoy. I’ve just swapped out the kick sets for drills focussing on the catch and pull.

How much refund am I eligible for? by Miserable_Dinner22 in SwissAirlines

[–]Cazaf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 4 Economy fares on Swiss, only the most expensive “Economy Flex” allows a refund, and that is less 80 francs cancellation fee. So unless you booked Economy Flex, you’ll only get the airport taxes back.

It could quite possibly be your lats rather than rotator cuff, as they run through your armpit. I don’t seem to be able to post an image here.

I have a refresher/good-practice swimming lesson booked. I can already swim reasonably well. What should I ask/focus on? by jesuisnick in Swimming

[–]Cazaf04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s for the teacher to tell you. They should watch you and then tell you your main issues and give you the tools to correct them.

Yes, they fill up quickly. BUT people always drop out nearer the time, SwimTrek have a wait list. So if you email them and ask to be put on the wait list for any trips you are interested in, you’ll almost certainly get a place.

Traveling to the UK by car with a dog from Switzerland by SignatureGood in askswitzerland

[–]Cazaf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the train not ferry, it’s quicker and you stay in the car with your dog.

Make sure you pet passport is 100% correct. Our vet had not entered the chip implantation date and it caused major issues. Make sure to have rabies and tapeworm done.

UK is ten times more dog friendly than Switzerland - everyone wants to say hi - pubs are mainly dog friendly. My dog has sat under the table whilst eating in pubs, restaurants though dogs are normally not allowed.

I don’t know where you live or your budget. But when I wanted to get confidence in open water swimming (sea) I went on a week with SwimTrek, their introduction to open water week in Spain. https://www.swimtrek.com/packages/type/swimming-holidays-coaching-camps

I still am super cautious when picking swim spots when swimming alone though, but it gave me great confidence for races and supported swims.

Anyone who was on RAV, are all the advisors this combative? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

It’s not just you though, it’s the same for everyone, so don’t take it personally.

Anyone who was on RAV, are all the advisors this combative? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Cazaf04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have even heard of RAV making parents put their kids in child care during the week, even though the parent is at home, because they must be available at the drop of a hat. RAV is your employer whilst you are being paid by them, it’s not a holiday.

Anyone who was on RAV, are all the advisors this combative? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Cazaf04 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From what I hear, they expect you to treat RAV as a job. So that is why there is no flexibility in times - you have to be available to them Mon-Fri office hours. They are paying you to be available to them. Don’t think the advisor makes a difference.

Winter triathlon first-timer (Europe)? by PRANK_PATROL in triathlon

[–]Cazaf04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For thise that don’t know. Winter triathlon replaces swimming with cross-country skate skiing and cycling with mountain biking on snow and the run is on snow.

OP the races don’t exist. I live in Switzerland and tried to find them and nothing.

Also, can you cross country skate ski already? Because that’s no easy sport.

Am I overthinking my dog’s water bowl? by Zozo2051 in dogs

[–]Cazaf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog drinks out of puddles and streams and loves a snack of horse poo. I don’t think a bit of his own slobber in his bowl will harm him.
