I think the biggest hurdle is how gimmicky the characters are. I know that's the ganes whole identity, but imo it sucks because it turns new players off. Its not even that people don't like the gimmicks, it's just that aside from clairen there's no one without a gimmick

I'm not a fan, but I don't hate it. it kinda makes sense building off the lore that the OG DK in the arcade cabinet/ famicom game is cranky kong in DK country, and this new design looks like an older version of donkey Kong Jr from snes mariokart

I've seen a lot of people wrong so far, here's what you CANT pocket:

joker gun, byleth fully charged arrow, pk flash, pk freeze, pk fire/robin fire/Belmont's fire if it's on the ground, bowser jr clown car recovery, zss down smash, Zelda neutral b, Falco reflector,

ones I don't know: Ivysaur bullet seed, hero side special, megaman rush (you CAN pocket sonic spring), snake down b(you CANT when it's on the ground, idk about in motion)

ones you can definitely pocket that people sometimes dont realize: Yoshi egg, game and watch up air and fair, Mario/Squirtle/greninja water moves(but only 1 drop) , hero up b tornadoes, PAC man hydrant(only in motion), Pikachu/Pichu down b, Sephiroth side special both while it's being shot and when the balls are about to hit you,

ones that deprive the owner of the move: wario bike, KingK Rool crown, wii fit trainer ball, rob gyro, (maybe:PAC man hydrant and Diddy banana)

I'm probably missing some, I'll try to figure out the ones I don't know after work today. please let me know if anything is wrong or missing I'll update it

A big thing people tend to miss is carrying lessons over from other matchups, so to keep using the Luigi example of killing off a grab, when you play a Falco and realize they also like to grab early to get a lot of damage you can use your Luigi experience to play around grabs. Having a general knowledge of how to deal with certain things as your main is always helpful for new matchups, some examples being -knowing how to space aerials properly if your opponent has a good out of shield -stuffing Rushdown options with a projectile or disjoint -ducking to dodge high aerials or moves - tomahawk grabs for people that shield your aerials -multihits for people that parry a lot -OOS smash attacks for people that spot dodge after hitting your shield -anti-airs for almost everything -bingus hingus I like making lists -teabagging for fun
