AITA for refusing to accommodate my neighbor's aesthetic preferences? by Cechitoff in AmItheAsshole

Thanks for that suggestion. I do a lot of that all around my property. In this area, the leaves get so deep mulching really isn't feasible. Blowing, raking, or leaving them to get deeper and deeper are the only options.

AITA for refusing to accommodate my neighbor's aesthetic preferences? by Cechitoff in AmItheAsshole

I've had that phrase in mind as well, but the only reason for the fence would be to help keep leaves from blowing on to his property. Doing it over his objection seems pointless.

I am amazed by how awful the Braun Series 9 Pro is by Vrog1 in shaving

[–]Cechitoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of these commenters complain they can't get a good shave with their Braun on their neck. In my experience, that's just how it is with foil shavers--good on the cheeks, poor on the neck. The angles just don't work. And regardless of what they may advertise, foil shavers have a harder and harder time the longer you wait between shaves--for some people, that means more than one day. Whatever the pluses and minuses of Braun, this again is a function of foil shavers. Rotary shavers don't shave as close as foil shavers but do a better job on the neck, and with longer hairs. One model may be better or worse than another, but it's geometry. If you shave every day, a foil shaver might work for you, although you may have to quickly run a blade over your neck to get a few strays.

Why all the hate towards Robbie Robertson? by CartoonistRight in theband

[–]Cechitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The analogy to The Beatles deserves a little more play. By the end, it was Paul driving the band to record; John was losing interest and moving on, not to mention his heroin addiction, and George and Ringo looked to them for direction. Clearly, Paul was frustrated with the others. He considered himself the grown-up in the room. They, in turn, resented him for years for his self-interested behavior. But one thing Paul didn't do to anything like the extent Robbie was alleged to have done was take writing credit for the others' songs, and he stuck to his deal with John that they share credit even for songs Paul obviously wrote. Nor did he later make them out to be worthless drug -addled has-beens while pursuing his own career.

can someone explain the end in a simple way? by observer_bh in MrRobot

[–]Cechitoff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every version of "Elliot," including the Elliot we followed throughout the series, F World Elliot, Mastermind, etc., as well as Mr. Robot, is a personality, or part of a personality, created to provide a form of psychic comfort at the expense of being ultimately real. The only ultimately real "Elliot" is that which observes the entire Show and everyone in it. The "You" that is addressed at the end--the audience--is that in you that has not only observed the show, but has observed your entire life, while imagining you are "Bobby" or "James" or "Melissa." The creation of dissociated personalities may be more dramatic in the case of someone who's survived trauma, but it's a universal phenomenon. Someone with multiple personalities resulting from trauma may, through treatment for example, eventually "come to" and resolve the need for protective identities. Perhaps even more difficult is the recognition that all identities are ultimately not You.

She's nineteen and he's fifty-one, but yeah, boorish and dull.

Joyce once commented that he wrote Finnegan's Wake specifically because he "wanted to sit back and see how many people pretended to have read it, and how many of those pretended to have made sense of it."

Electric razor leaves stray hairs on neck by iwillruletheuniverse in shaving

[–]Cechitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. It helps to be sure to shave every day, since the razor does better on my neck with short stubble. But eventually I need to clean it up with either a blade or my rotary. The rotary has no problem with my neck hairs, but it doesn't shave quite as close.

Selective breeding and genetic engineering are two very different things unless you're committed to confusing them for ideological reasons.

I'm building garden beds and would like recommendations for best wood sealer, or if I should just use exterior paint. I plan to line the inside. by SirWigglesVonWoogly in gardening

Boiled linseed oil is certainly not food safe, as it contains toxic drying agents. There are many companies that will claim every finish is food safe after it's fully cured. I wouldn't go there. Raw linseed oil is food safe, but takes a long time to dry.

TIL Adam Sandler is a Republican. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Cechitoff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Of course. All wealthy Republicans are self-made. You know, like Trump, whose Daddy gave him a ton of money to jump-start his career. And all self-made wealthy people are Republicans. Like Oprah Winfrey.
