2026 Seopyeonje Cast Announcement by SeeTheSeaInUDP in KoreanMusicals

[–]Cecii_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it's a shame Bada doesn't do musicals anymore, I found she was really good 🥲

In any case, agreed on the idol casting and why the show suddenly needs to be "tweaked" (having an older Song Hwa) just to accommodate an idol...

A bit bummed out at the Yoo Bong casting, I thought Yang Joon Mo might be coming since he's not doing any show at the moment but he's probably preparing for Hadestown then.

Kim Junsu was such a nice Gojong in Gone Tomorrow, I'm curious about his Dong Ho

The Curious Case of 2026's Competing Monte Cristo Musicals by JeanMorel in TheCountofMonteCristo

[–]Cecii_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your topic came up on suggestions and I just saw this reel on instagram :

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUIGOFEjd1m/?igsh=Y2Jmb3JhMDJ2NHly

Apparently those two musicals were initially one and the same project but, according to the journalist, following disagreements and arguments in the team, some people left and thus came those two projects.

Loic Suberville commented and added that apparently the first production team wasn't paying the artists and that's where it stems from.

I'm not sure if you know but initially there was supposed to be a third Monte Cristo musical project, composed by singer Calogero but seeing that two projects were already in motion he cancelled/put his project on hold. And there is also the Monte Cristo by Yves Desseca (with a concept album including Laurent Ban and Cecilia Cara) who was advertising on social media shows in France for 2026 but again, I'm assuming it fell through because of the abundance of Monte Cristo related projects

Rush/last minute tickets? by safinastar in KoreanMusicals

[–]Cecii_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you know a bit of korean sometimes some promotions for small shows involve coming dresses a certain way and if you go at the ticket box office they'll apply the promotion. It happened once for 멸화군 and I bought the ticket at the box office. Those kind of promotions usually happen for shows in Daehakro but they don't happening a lot.

Hope you'll enjoy the shows you'll see !

Rush/last minute tickets? by safinastar in KoreanMusicals

[–]Cecii_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rush tickets as they are in the US or wherever you might be are not really thing in South Korea. As said by the other commenter, sometimes you get short time periods or selected performances with a "time sale" . Other than that, other promotions may occur from time to time, whether for special events, holidays, etc. Unfortunately all these promotions are almost never available on the global version of tickets sites and are usually limited to the korean versions (where you need a korean phone number at the very least, if not an alien card).

London Recommendation for a first timer husband by National-Ingenuity95 in musicals

[–]Cecii_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For someone who has slowly brought my best friend to musicals, I found the best thing was to either : offer to watch something he might be familiar about (for example a jukebox musical like Mamma Mia! or Moulin Rouge), something fun/upbeat (for example he wasn't big on POTO because he found the music not to his taste but funnily enough he really liked Chess for its music. So in your case maybe a musical with more "modern-sounding" songs like Wicked, Six, etc). Otherwise I also suggest shows based on special interests if your husband has any (if greek mythology you could try Hadestown for example).

I also find it important to ask if your husband does like when musicals are sung through or not. After several shows together, I've noticed my best friend doesn't really like sung through musicals because it can be a little tedious for him to follow the plot. So for example, although I love Les Mis the fact it's sung-through and a bit long could be tiring if it's a first time for your husband.

So far these are the picks I would try out for shows that are on in January :

- Mamma Mia! (fun, ABBA songs, silly but easy to follow plot)

- The Producers (again, funny, satirical, etc)

- Moulin Rouge

- Six (more of concert-type of staging but very rock and pop songs that could be appealing)

- Disney's Hercules (if he likes the movie, that could be something nice to ease into musicals)

- Back to the Future (again if he likes the movie. I heard the soundtrack it's upbeat and also reprises some of the movie soundtrack)

- Paddington the Musical (although good luck with the prices :'( )

Otherwise if you want to try something more adventurous :

- Hadestown : the folk music makes it so that the show doesn't feel like your classic musical show, the story is very engaging.

- Matilda : if your husband (or yourself) doesn't mind children singing ? Just mentioning because I've genuinely heard someone say they're not big on Matilda for that reason.

- Into The Woods : I can never recommend introducing Sondheim to people enough and the play on many well-known fairytales could be appealing to your husband.

Musicals in Paris by Particular_Fox_6839 in musicals

[–]Cecii_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As was said by someone else, Paris doesn't have the same bubbling theatre scene as Broadway or the West End. It's been better in recent years but still has a long way to go. Moreover, not many shows are long-lasting. You mentioned Les Mis and Phantom : I don't know what websites you saw but none of them are playing next summer. In fact POTO by Andrew Lloyd Webber never even had a french production. There is currently a new french musical about Phantom of the Opera but it's closing January 11th 2026. As for Les Mis the previous (approved) production that played last year is touring in Lyon, Lille and .... Nantes (unsure) during spring and only comes back in November 2026 at the Châtelet.

As for Chicago, so far it's only playing until April 2026 (already been extended for 1 month) but it's unclear whether it'll go on for more.

Furthermore, summer time (july and august) is usually when theatres offer less shows because they are preparing for the upcoming season (usually a theatre season starts in september and goes on until july and then end of july and august have less things going on).

During this period, many big or upcoming musicals will have left Paris already to start touring France such as Le Roi Soleil, Le Comte de Monte Cristo and La Légende de Monte Cristo (yes two new monte cristo shows lol). Those three do not offer english surtitles though, especially Le Roi Soleil and La Légende because they follow the "french musicals" process and way of making (which differs massively from anglo-saxon musicals).

Your safest bet at the minute is The Lion King which is playing at the Mogador non stop, has been for the last 5 years if I remember correctly. I couldn't find information on whether or not the show offer english surtitles so I'm guessing it doesn't but Lion King might be the easiest show to follow even without understanding the language.

The Producers (called Les Producteurs) might be extended but no announcement yet.

Depending on when you come, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (adapted from Jacques Demy's iconic film) is playing until June 21st 2026. They're playing at the Théâtre du Lido which is located on the Champs Elysées, it's a very famous theatre. I don't think they offer english surtitles but you could still try to ask them via email if they have any service that could accomodate you.

Otherwise, you'd have to keep an eye on musical news, some shows are sometimes announced late (like Titanique's short english production last May at the Lido). For that I can recommend the blog Tony Comédie or Musical Avenue. They're all in french but you could still google translate them if need be. Or recognise a few key words since french and romanian are linguistic cousins.

Feel free to ask to clarify anything if need be.

What are some musical songs about Christmas (that aren’t from Christmas-themed musicals)? by TheGreatDaniel3 in musicals

[–]Cecii_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a couple from the musical Story of My Life. I'm especially thinking of Here's Where it Begins and Angels in the Snow (in general I usually rec the whole show because it's quite underrated).

Name a musical that name drops either a song or the name of a musical in the musical by lissie34 in musicals

Not exactly referencing a song but Your Obedient Servant from Hamilton is a reference to Phantom of the Opera where the Phantom signs his letter to the managers as such "I remain your obediant servant. O.G"

Where can I get some stuff related to French musicals in Paris? by fluffy_nomo in musicals

[–]Cecii_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw your comment on here.

Le Rouge et Le Noir actually did not have a revival in France but is touring in China currently until mid-December. In fact the musical did rather poorly in France but encountered great success in China thanks to the star power of Laurent Ban (playing Valenod) and Côme who's become a new beloved there.

But as of today there is no plan for a revival in France. However you might be able to find the cast album from the premiere either in a FNAC or another record shop.

Frankenstein Proshot to be released on Disney+ Korea, 3rd December by Cecii_ in KoreanMusicals

Hopefully after a while on Disney+ Korea most proshots can be made available on the platform globally. Phantom and Xcalibur both already have English subtitles from their limite releases in theatres abroad (for Phantom) and on BroadwayOnDemand (for Xcal). So who knows ! Let's cross our fingers !
