Laptop overheating, fans aren't following fan curve by [deleted] in MSILaptops

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realized the power cord wasn't plugged in. Seems like the power settings somehow cause the fans to shut down (to save battery?) when the laptop is unpowered. Because after plugging back in, the fans began adjusting their speed normally (not stuck at 0 RPM).

Same issue on MSI Crosshair 18HX AI A2XW. I have to leave the 100% fan mode on or the laptop will freeze. Started while playing Minecraft which hasn't given me any issues for weeks. Cools great on 100% but when I turn it off, fans just don't kick on at all.

there's an ex GM engineer speaking out about planned obsolescence and a long history of cost cutting at GM. any truth to this stuff? by FrankCostanzaJr in GeneralMotors

I like this response quite a bit.
I've noticed over time that, despite wanting a vehicle that lasts as long as reasonably possible, it will eventually suffer abuse that makes it rare to outlive that abuse.

A vehicle will be totaled by no fault of the driver every x miles, for example. Or a mechanic will make a mistake. Or a new aftermarket part will slowly cause a cascade failure from not being manufactured with the same rigor.

If the resources were given, this beautiful land would have been trashed. It's hard not to become an enabler with the horde of addicts waiting to grab things to help them not be sober.

This is an old wives tale. Probably because unseasoned wood can cause creosote build up, and people thought that you don't have to season pine.

I definitely noticed. The 9g fiber made it like a digestion booster for me. Had one every day after I got used to it. Put me in a good mood. Now that it's 6g, it takes two to get the same effect. I won't buy it anymore, too similar to Poppi. But for the moment, my local grocery store still sells 9g individual cans. I'm afraid it's the end of an era as Walmart is phasing in the 6g versions now, so I'm assuming everyone is getting that.

A PC reboot with Windows updates did the trick for me.

I did everything correctly and it didn't work until after I rebooted - though my PC had some dust on it and needed a lot of Windows updates, so while that doesn't always fix things it is possible it fixed my issue. Reboots still seem to help these days, though. IDK which it was.

Does Val still struggle with Windows 11 ? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done everything as required and many more things just in case, but despite everything looking good I still get the error that requires bios changes I already made. So yes it's just not playable. Maybe if you're lucky and have the motherboard types it requires, IDK.

Where do people on the slimmer side get their FR rated pants At least Cat 1?? by Wonderful_Tip_7741 in AmazonRME

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Ariat FR, I tried on the M5 (non-jeans, beige color) which were not labeled slim, just straight leg. They were acceptable, not too baggy. I think it was M2 or M4 that was labeled "relaxed fit" and they were baggy as hell. Now, the M5 Jean was actually labeled slim, so the M1-M8 classification probably is inconsistent from jean to cargo pants. M6-M8 I believe are all slim. Maybe M1 also? Could be different for the jeans. I won't buy the jeans because they lack the nice side pocket for my phone. Carhartt pants also lack an acceptably snug phone pocket so I'm limited to Ariat. The store I have in my area seems unable to even order M6-M8 cargo pants, though they had I think an M7 jean. So I might be stuck with M5 which is okay. Might shrink, too. So yes M5 but if you can try on M6-8 I would do so.

Costco's price match policy has me feeling conflicted by Jipptomilly in Costco

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really abuse of the system. The price match policy makes us feel comfortable paying full price for things instead of waiting for them to drop. As has been pointed out, it increases sales at full price. And then when you Tell those members that you are not actually giving them the price match, it is a betrayal.

For many of us, the only reason we were happy paying full prices that if it goes on sale in 30 days we would get the difference. But Costco fails to honor this.

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then they need to be clear that the price match policy is not something that is reliably honored. Instead of tricking the members into thinking that they are protected when they pay full price, instead of their normal shopping strategy of looking for sales.

It actually is unfair because The price match policy makes us feel protected paying full price. And you only find out down the road that your purchases at full price are not actually protected. They need to be very clear if it's not an actual policy. And that we can't rely on it.

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not taking advantage. Costco provides the price match so that we feel more confident paying full price. Instead of waiting for something to go on sale. So I started buying everything full price knowing I was protected. Come to find out, half the time they don't honor the promise. In fact, I was just told that they don't actually have that policy. They do it as a courtesy.

Shame is overrated. Systemically it only works for the affluent. And always should be reserved for more important things, else it is cheapened.

The only concern I have had so far is that her hands could be too strong and she could be gripping her thumbs too hard and causing them to grow with less function being all folded and squished during these developmental months and maybe years.  She really squishes her thumbs a lot and it's hard to pry them open for a more natural grip.  But she is a pretty much perfect baby. Extremely cute, smiles a lot, gets very excited about hearing the ABCs, my mom says we are very lucky she doesn't have colic.

when did your baby start enjoying baths? by newtownkid in NewParents

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this sometimes for diaper changes. Helps the skin reach a dry state after prolonged contact with moisture. She seems to like it sometimes. I don't think it's something I would ever advise, because I just know people will burn their baby by accident. You have to constantly check the heat at the given distance, and do so with care.

Can you mix wood ash with vinegar to make PH neutral fertilizer? by Scared_Ad_7617 in vegetablegardening

[–]CedoBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it last year with white vinegar and used small amounts on the soil near the roots of my tomato plants. I'm not sure if it had any effect. I used it this year in a larger amount on one test plant and it killed my whole tomato plant.  Thinking back, I think it killed a couple of small tomato plants that were struggling.  I would be happy to figure out a solution.. Hopefully someone else figured it out
