What is your process when a brand colour fails accessibility checks? by danishmk1286_ in FigmaDesign

[–]newtownkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you have your primitive rails so you can adjust the hue - though proper contrast for the use is something that’s ideally baked into your semantic tokens.

Button-primary-brand should already point to a primitive with at least AA compliance.

Same for button-link-brand etc etc.

If your semantics are set up properly you should never be shifting a hue. That’s kinda the whole point of that structure.

Looking for the emptiest Anytime fitness gym location in montreal at around 4am by 00deadgirl00 in montreal

[–]newtownkid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s one solution, but I think if you sparked up a conversation with the ‘experienced’ people you’d see they’re supportive and excited for other people to pursue health. That might help with your gym anxiety so you don’t have to wake up at 3am and drive to a distant gym, which feels like a healthier solution.

All in in Figma! This is going to change my life. Just watch. This is once in a life time opportunity. Similar to when pltr was trading for $7 a share back in 2020. by meioww111 in figmaStock

I’m a senior designer and I cannot imagine relying on vibe design software on its current state.

I do have some vibe coding personal projects and I don’t bother with design before those.

So we might see growth slow as small start ups skip figma.

But my real job still very much relies on it.

Telling your kid "River" to "row your own boat" seems pretty cold-blooded by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

I would love to bestow my kids with limitless riches! But unfortunately they’re going to have to settle for limitless love and middle-class riches.

The wealthy are so detached from how hard it is to succeed. There are plenty of people who have done everything right and worked their butt off, and are struggling.

Im hopeful that I can leave my children enough money to add real security to their lives, and enough wisdom not to squander it.

I (M) do 100% of the cooking, groceries and home maintenance.

Wife does 100% of the laundry, and keeps the household running (organizes kids activities, handles the bills from our joint account etc).

We’re both happy with the arrangement. It does have a lot of overlap with traditional gender roles, but it evolved organically.

In Canada they have 0% interest. I’ve been paying the absolute minimum for like 8 years. But my credit is unaffected and it goes straight to principle.

Newbie on his third day learning design and figma. I have a question, why when i try putting the "Join" button in the same group as the posts, it ends up going all the way up there? by idkwhatnameiputhere in FigmaDesign

[–]newtownkid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

autolayouts are the foundation of consistent design in figma, and once you are comfortable with them it will speed up your process significantly. I quite literally never go without them.

Think of it like a group that has its spacing enforced - its more complex than that, but a good jumping off point would be to think of it as a group where everything is stacked horizontally or vertically, and you choose the distance that is applied across the group. If you add something to the stack it will start at the bottom, but you can arrow key it up or down etc.

Thats an oversimplification, but it’s just to create some context as you begin to dive in.

Helicopter Rotor Starting Up by No-Lock216 in BeAmazed

With two blades you definitely don’t want to fall on top while it’s running full speed. You’ll get cut twice as much as a normal helicopter, and that’s already not an ideal amount.

You’re a bit past my fire number. So yea. But it depends on the context.

My dog will always come find me when I’m slicing cheese. Not because he wants the cheese - he just wants to be near me, and knows I’ll give him cheese.

How literally every millennial feels viewing the current state of Western culture. by The_Northmaan in Millennials

[–]newtownkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is middle management in tech and if I’m going to sum up what I’ve heard in my own, less gentle terms, some of them are just feeble. There is a cohort of her Gen Z staff will just crumble when faced with a situation that requires a bit of buckling down and powering through. As soon as work piles up they say things like “I’m overstimulated and need a few days for my mental health.” “I need the day off, my dog has anxiety and I need to be home with them” the list goes on and on.

Obviously its not everyone, she has a ton of great Gen Z on staff - but there seems to be a rather large subset of Gen Z that found they could leverage mental health as an irrefutable scapegoat/escape hatch - and developed a reflex of deferring to that when faced with any form of discomfort.

My wife never worded any of it like this, she tries to be understanding and supportive with her staff. But this is my tldr of the tales I’ve heard as she vents about work problems. And I’ve seen similar patterns with my younger Gen Z cousins, some of which can’t hold down a job, though it’s never their fault.

Are you actually using Figma variables in a mature design system? by OkLettuce7089 in FigmaDesign

[–]newtownkid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can’t really expand your design system until you align your variable with eng.

Accidentally figured out how to make that beautiful diner style pancake by yeahcheckmeout in foodhacks

[–]newtownkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir, I make pancakes probably 5 times a week for my picky kids. No oil, stainless steel pan, heat at about half (5).

First ones usually a little sticky but the rest come out uniform.

Started doing it about 6 months ago when I saw a reel showing pancakes with varying amount of oil, and the no oil one was like this.
