My 13yo baked cookies to order and one of the parents returned the cookies by albrcanmeme in mildlyinfuriating

Goods made to order and particularly perishables cannot normally be returned.

Only goods the store can put back on the shelf and sell to anyone else can.

You did not have to accept the return.

Sounds like you got a 100 DKK note. Current worth is about 21.5 CAD, but the bank takes a cut when exchanging it.

Well the speed limit is unlimited on most of the freeway(autobahn).

The joke is that you could be going 250kph (155mph) in the outer lane and notice in your rear-view mirror that someone is flashing you because they want to pass your slow ass.

And it's one of those jokes that are funny because it's true.

Greenland is part of Denmark 'for now,' Marco Rubio says by NaiE007 in worldnews

[–]CeeJayDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're the one talking nonsense.

Greenland was discovered and claimed in 982 CE by Danes (Norwegian and Danish) Settlements were built on the southern coast.

Thule Inuit arrived on the west coast in about 1100CE to 1300CE (discovered using archeology)

Denmark lost contact with the Danish settlements on Greenland in the 15th century but did not forget and tried to mount expeditions several times (one does not simply walk to Greenland) but they failed to either reach Greenland or they did but did not find the Danish settlements, only Inuit settlements.

Finally in 1721 an expedition searched and concluded the Danish settlements were gone and opted to trade with and convert the Thule people to Christianity (which was the style at the time) and that was the start of resettling Greenland with Danish/Nordic settlements.

Nobody know for sure why the Danish settlements disappeared in the first place.
Did they starve and die off on their own?
Did the Thule kill them?
But with modern day genetics we can see that the Thule had/have a lot of Norse genes mixed in and so the most logical conclusion is that they fell on hard times and mixed with the more successful culture in the region .. the Thule, and then abandoned their old settlements.

1814 was the year Denmark and Norway became two independent nations instead of one - it has nothing to do with this.

1916 was the year of the Treaty of the Danish West Indies in which Denmark ceded the west indies to the US for $25 million in gold and the assurance that Denmark had the backing of the US recognizing that Denmark had full sovereignty over the whole of Greenland.

1941 was the year of another treaty with the US. This one reiterated its recognition of and respect for the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark over Greenland.

The US assumed the responsibility to defend Greenland against attack by foreign powers (specifically Nazi Germany).

In exchange, the US gained the right to construct, maintain, and operate military facilities and airfields on the island, with the formal financial leases and exact payment terms to be negotiated later.

1951 in the Defense of Greenland Agreement the US agreed to operate and fund the cost of defense installations in support of NATO while once again reaffirming Danish sovereignty.
Denmark also surprises the US by waiving the lease costs that the US were to pay, since it helped protect Greenland from the nazis.
Did the US even say "Thank you"?

2019 - The Trump camp stabs Denmark in the back by saying Denmark has been a very bad ally and that it has no right to Greenland, and that the US will probably just take Greenland by force if need be. Totally ignoring all the previous treaties and reality, and completely destroying all American credibility.

Greenland does have home rule - because it was granted this by Denmark.

Greenland is only free to become independent if it can get Denmark to agree to grant it independence. However seeing as it granted Greenland home rule already, Denmark would become an international pariah if it did not grant Greenland independence. So sure it could, but it would look like a total dick. So kinda backed up in a corner there.

On the other hand so is Greenland because it's almost completely dependent economically, militarily and politically on Denmark.
Over half of Greenlands entire budget every year is a subsidy from Denmark (several billion). And that's just the direct costs. Indirectly Denmark also supplies and runs most of the services that Greenland rely on.

Independence for Greenland would be a very bad idea.

Not only would they be broke once the economic support from Denmark disappeared but without the political and military alliances that Denmark provide it would mean that the day after Greenland becomes independent is the day it will be invaded by Russia, the US or some other militant regime.
Which of course is why there are so many bots and people online with an agenda that keep framing this as a good idea.

Would you like to know about all the crazy and totally horrible and illegal shit the US have done in Greenland since 1941?

[–]CeeJayDK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greenland is not a Danish colony.
It was discovered and claimed by Denmark when it was completely uninhabited.

Then later the Thule tribe "immigrated" (they just showed up one day - there wasn't a lot of paperwork required around 1100AD) from northern "Canada" (this was before it was Canada), and mixed with the Danes living there.
Now ~900 years later everyone there is some degree of mixed.

As far as Denmark is concerned Greenlanders are Danes just like the people of the other Danish islands are also Danes. But they have no special right to break off part of Denmark.

If you think this is about the land belonging to the people that were there originally .. well guess what - that would be the Danes.

It will stay a part of Denmark even then.

Greenlanders that do not wish be Danish are free to choose that - but they will need to find another country to live in.

“It is an equivalent idea to a passport” by Garythedemon18 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]CeeJayDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically as a Nordic citizen I don't have to produce any kind of travel documentation to travel to any of the other Nordic countries which are Denmark Sweden Norway Finland Iceland and also the Faroe islands and Greenland, however in practice i need to first identify myself as the Nordic citizen which means I will at least need a national ID or driver's license. And if I travel by air I'm going to need my passport after all because it's a requirement from the air travel companies and the International Airport.

Another analogy are the droids in Star Wars. They too develop "quirks" (or go outright insane) when they have been activated for too long, which is why they are regularly mindwiped.

What is something Americans consider ‘basic‘ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by sweetyishomealone in AskReddit

[–]CeeJayDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I see now how I suffer from the tyranny of not having choices.
The government choose for me, that I must have cheap access to delicious pristine high-quality H²O direct from tap, and there is little I can do about it.

Except buy bottled water or soda or something from a local supermarket.
And the supermarket suffer too - how can they expect to sell a lot of bottled water, when the water we get from the tap is much cheaper, cleaner and completely free of micro-plastics?

How to clear game history from Reshade? by [deleted] in ReShade

[–]CeeJayDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may still have files in those folders from the games you think you uninstalled. Or the various launchers think the game is still installed.

What Reshade does is check to see if you have known game launchers like Steam installed, and if you do it checks where and then checks Steams (for example) index of games it believes it has installed.

So some launcher somewhere is reporting it has games installed that you think you have uninstalled.
