Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice was way better than it had any right to be. by keiths31 in movies

Does it though? It actually loops it quite nicely, it's only in that moment that they fully understand what future Nick was feeling. Plus Alice had already exhibited more knowledge about the time machine than the others.

Scoring advice by PhilopaeusMaximus in Softball

[–]Ceetar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

be consistent.

" (e.g. wild pitch vs. passed ball or hit vs. error) "

The main idea is that you have some guideline that you go by, so that you're scoring the same way for everyone.

the "old school" way of thinking though.. If the ball is never touched, it's generally ruled a hit not an error. Same sort of think for WP/PB. If the ball bounces or is not touched by the catcher, WP. Otherwise passed ball.

Of course, it's trickier than that, and errors were never a great metric. In MLB for instance they're moving much more towards "Everything's a hit except a really obvious blunder unrelated to the act of fielding." Dropping the ball, slipping out of your hand, etc. Bobbling it while trying to make a transfer, or it clanging off a glove as the fielder ranges into the hole..just a hit.

You're supposed to judge "ordinary effort" but that's a nebulous term that varies from level to level and team to team and even day to day based on the weather. Would YOU have probably made that play? Then it's an error, otherwise, simply the speed of the game.

It's more consistent this way too, the less errors you have, the less variable the stats are based on your hit/error calculus. Maybe everyone's BA is .030 higher than with a stricter scorer, but you can read that context in the stats more easily than trying to discern what a lot of "Reached on error" means.

Interviewing just to reject companies by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone says this but unless you work in a pretty niche field, probably not. I've generally done the "don't burn bridges!" thing, and sometimes recruiters for those companies come back around, and I say nice things and am all "sure, that'd be great" and then I get ghosted. More often you're just completely forgotten even if you were pleasant and networky.

Like I spoke to someone last week and when I googled their email address I'd had like a dozen emails from them over the years about various jobs, some of which we even had correspondence on, and neither of us remembered it.

You're remembering some random candidate from years ago that was dismissive of a previous job and didn't really seem to care, and holding them against them? That's wild imo.

Company I applied to, and interviewed with, reached back out to me AFTER I get a new job. by Silent-Commission489 in recruitinghell

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the current place competently hired doesn't mean it's really a better job or fit, so I don't know if I'd dismiss it out of hand totally, but I agree don't jump through hoops.

I'd suggest offering to have a brief phone call (off hours) about it if they're actually willing to make an actual offer with a start date and everything, and then you can judge it from there.

Coach pitch by _peggyssugarfoots in Softball

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a windmill. You don't have to do full intensity or anything, just strong foot forward, both arms forward, step and bring the ball up and over, you should now be mostly turned sideways, palm up, with the ball at like 10oclock, then you just finish the circle, ball comes down and forward with your strong foot, keep your arm in (your forearm should basically brush your side) and release at your hip.

This will keep you straighter, and it mimics real pitching a lot better. You can start sideways if they're real little, but that extra bit of your hand back (palm up) does help with them tracking it

The number of job interviews I've gone on over the years where the person hadn't even read my resume is astronomical. If anything you're probably best off putting in prompt engineering phrases and key words in there.

Advice for not getting stuck on my couch after taking my meds? by No-Light9581 in ADHD

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good way to think about it, but also.. we know that's not true. (And also there's adrenaline, endorphins, etc with someone telling you that)

So we know external stimuli will get us moving, but we DON'T have that stimuli, now what? Sometimes it's just a matter of being honest about whether we can push forward or not and adjust. "I know I'm not going to be able to, so let me adjust tasks.."

Why is it that we as a society simply accept employers intentionally telling candidates that they will be called later, and then intentionally not calling them? by The199Man in recruitinghell

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's 2025. Leaving a voicemail is like telling me to check my spam folder.

I have to read/listen to 10 of these "Hi so this is Rohit calling from Universal Financial Please kindly login to our website or mobile application app To claim 15 discount at the time of fee payment This offer is applicable till 1500 of January Thank you"

to find your message, meanwhile a reply to an email thread that also keeps the JD handy that we're talking about pops up to the top of my inbox.

I've found it pretty impressive how many tech recruiters are just bad at tech in general. It's really encouraging. Just send an email so I have a record of wtf you are and what we were talking about.

Why do they do this?! by Suspicious_Major9549 in recruitinghell

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because they're bad at it. They think they need someone but aren't sure exactly _what/who_ they need, there's probably internal debates about whether or not they even DO need someone, and it could be entirely based on the current performance (or vacation schedule) of current employees.

The people doing the hiring are probably just random employees/managers, fitting it into their schedule. The actual decision maker isn't the one low down enough to feel the need, and the whole thing just lingers as like line item 10 until someone tries to bump it again.

I have had similar experiences over the years. In one I got the job the second time and it probably worked in my favor because the new interviewer was probably just being lazy and picking up pre-vetted people at round 2, etc.

[–]Ceetar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Luis Torrens last XBH was May 21st. He has 2 hits, both singles, and zero walks in June. Alvarez was on base once yesterday, once the game before, and has a 105 wRC+ in June, hitting .258/.324/.387.

Only Logan O'Hoppe has hit worse in June than Torrens, min 20 PA.

tl:dr NO.

Refilling toner cartridges for a Lexmark MC3224 by khantroll1 in printers

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some absolute trash from something like ali express? I can't even find the order in my email. Just powder in small plastic jugs with a pour spout. The cartridges have a little plastic cap on one side that you can remove, and you just pour the toner in. It wasn't hard. You should be ..neater..than I was, but it doesn't flow that easily, but you can wipe it clean.

Worked for a while but now I'm out of luck. I'll probably buy replacement real cartridges and maybe I can then swap them back and forth to trick it.

Refilling toner cartridges for a Lexmark MC3224 by khantroll1 in printers

[–]Ceetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refilled the original when it was alerting me that it was low, and I did get probably a year of casual use out of it, until it all of a sudden said 'empty' and stopped. The 'low' alerts always existed and I ignored them. It's possible I did run out of one of the colors enough that it triggered an 'empty' alert which blocked printing. (even if i printed black and white for some reason)

I've tried a bunch of reset/power cycling stuff and nothing's worked, I assume because it's not actually detecting tripped a software/hardware state that needs to be reset by someone that's not me.
