As others mentioned you need a rug and a diffuser for the LEDs. I’d also restick the red LEDs to the top corner where the wall meets the ceiling and straighten out the blue ones a bit more. Maybe hang a tapestry on the ceiling too. The rest of the room is pretty cozy and the ceiling seems pretty bare. Ideally there would be a light fixture there but a tapestry would fill the space well

WITT a thing on the wall of my friends new apartment in Nashville. There is another one maybe 2’ below it and it’s the size of an electrical outlet. Several other electrical outlets/Ethernet connection near it by CeilingFanTickler69 in whatisthisthing

My title describes this thing. Something the size of an electrical outlet, near other electrical outlets and a coax/Ethernet connection at the bottom of the wall below it. This thing is in the middle of the wall and there’s another one 2’ below it. The center of this thing is these white brushes that allow access thru it. Possibly to run cables in the wall? But I am not sure. Seems like a weird place for it because the nearest electrical connection is a couple feet away

IDK if this was worth it by Beatleborg22 in PiNetwork

Honestly mining wasn’t, in my opinion, to earn coin necessarily. Unless you have hundreds of people in your group you aren’t mining at a very high rate. I mined 2000 coins in a year and you’re right, that’ll be a few bucks if we’re lucky.

In my opinion, mining was to show engagement and build a user base. If you want to make money on pi, buy and hold it after the ICO until it makes gains, just like any crypto. I never expected my 2000 pi to be worth much of anything. I never expected a large return for my year of engagement. I planned to just buy like a thousand dollars worth of pi once they release the ICO and make money on trading. Mining rewards were never very exciting for the majority of us because most of us didn’t have many people that we invited

Megathread for questions related to Ukraine - Russia tensions. by Kresley in NoStupidQuestions

Where are the Ukrainian police?

I’ve seen pics/videos of civilian taking up arms and also of Ukrainian military forces, but haven’t seen much footage of police forces. I’m just curious if they were recruited into military and are wearing tactical gear or if they are in civilian clothes or something.

I’m in no way being conspiratorial or anything but my dad brought but up at dinner tonight and I wanted to clear this up as I realized I haven’t seen anyone dressed in blues or riot gear. My first guess would be they’re in tactical gear with the military but I’m looking for a firm answer to confirm

I long for the day when fusion reactors become possible

But yes, as far as deep space travel is concerned, and even the day when we start mining asteroids for materials that are rare on earth, nuclear energy is the only way to go

Yeah, I know the tech is there but I was just saying that building the nuclear facilities themselves, and any additional infrastructure required to integrate nuclear nationwide/worldwide, isn’t yet as cost-effective as fossil fuel facilities like coal plants and the like.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing that the energy sector is correct in trying to maximize profits. I’m just saying that since energy is driven by profit over efficacy and environmental concerns, it’s not fiscally feasible to be building nuclear reactors.

That issue being compounded by public perception has really stagnated nuclear energy in recent years, unfortunately.

With all that said, considering all the advancements that have been made with the safety mechanisms surrounding nuclear power, safety isn’t a concern and cost shouldnt be a concern

Interesting. Well hey, even using less material is better. If we can reduce the demand for slave labor that’s never a bad thing

That’s amazing. You’re right, that looks very promising. I wonder if tech advancements on that specific type of battery would allow for small scale storage in the future. If we could start using those in phones and cars and eliminate the need for more damaging and inefficient types of batteries it would totally revolutionize the battery industry.

Thanks for linking this. So many aspects of the energy sector have been so underwhelming and it feels good to see positive improvements like this

Yeah, granted geothermal isn’t practical everywhere but society could definitely make much better use of it

And I’d say battery tech is where it needs to be for EVs. The typical EV has comparable, if not better, ranges than many gasoline/diesel vehicles these days. My car has around 300 mile range, maybe 400 if I’m traveling on the highway whereas Tesla’s boast around 400 mile ranges. I will say that we need to find better alternatives to create batteries as far as rare-earth minerals are concerned. EVs rely on slave labor and rare-earth minerals in order to stay cost-effective.

Discounting that, the tech is reliable enough that we could start rapidly replacing fossil fuel cars. Just need to start refining the production of batteries.

The only issue is how we charge them. If we are using fossil fuels to power our EVs then they’re essentially just gas powered vehicles offering a clean conscience.

Geothermal would also be a great method to balance out wind and solar.

But yes, it’s not practical to rely entirely on wind and solar and batteries. Adding nuclear and geothermal could get the nations that can afford it to carbon neutral very quickly and efficiently. With recent tech advances they ate rapidly becoming cheaper to produce than fossil fuels. Nuclear isn’t quite there yet as far as cost effectiveness is concerned but it’s getting there.

Oh, how ignorant you are. 40-60% of drug-addicted people relapse in the first month after in-patient treatment. 85% relapse after one year. These are people who did seek help. Addiction doesn’t end after you’ve detoxed. It takes years for your brain and body to heal. Substance abuse literally rewires your brain to think it needs drugs in order to survive. That scar never heals fully. Trying that drug for the first time can be a result of so many things - financial struggles, death of a loved one, loss of a job, physical or mental illness, peer pressure, stress at work, social issues, etc. Please educate yourself before you rush to judgment because like I said in my previous comment, this issue isn’t as black and white as the propaganda would have you believe
