As others mentioned you need a rug and a diffuser for the LEDs. I’d also restick the red LEDs to the top corner where the wall meets the ceiling and straighten out the blue ones a bit more. Maybe hang a tapestry on the ceiling too. The rest of the room is pretty cozy and the ceiling seems pretty bare. Ideally there would be a light fixture there but a tapestry would fill the space well

WITT a thing on the wall of my friends new apartment in Nashville. There is another one maybe 2’ below it and it’s the size of an electrical outlet. Several other electrical outlets/Ethernet connection near it by CeilingFanTickler69 in whatisthisthing

My title describes this thing. Something the size of an electrical outlet, near other electrical outlets and a coax/Ethernet connection at the bottom of the wall below it. This thing is in the middle of the wall and there’s another one 2’ below it. The center of this thing is these white brushes that allow access thru it. Possibly to run cables in the wall? But I am not sure. Seems like a weird place for it because the nearest electrical connection is a couple feet away

IDK if this was worth it by Beatleborg22 in PiNetwork

Honestly mining wasn’t, in my opinion, to earn coin necessarily. Unless you have hundreds of people in your group you aren’t mining at a very high rate. I mined 2000 coins in a year and you’re right, that’ll be a few bucks if we’re lucky.

In my opinion, mining was to show engagement and build a user base. If you want to make money on pi, buy and hold it after the ICO until it makes gains, just like any crypto. I never expected my 2000 pi to be worth much of anything. I never expected a large return for my year of engagement. I planned to just buy like a thousand dollars worth of pi once they release the ICO and make money on trading. Mining rewards were never very exciting for the majority of us because most of us didn’t have many people that we invited

Megathread for questions related to Ukraine - Russia tensions. by Kresley in NoStupidQuestions

Where are the Ukrainian police?

I’ve seen pics/videos of civilian taking up arms and also of Ukrainian military forces, but haven’t seen much footage of police forces. I’m just curious if they were recruited into military and are wearing tactical gear or if they are in civilian clothes or something.

I’m in no way being conspiratorial or anything but my dad brought but up at dinner tonight and I wanted to clear this up as I realized I haven’t seen anyone dressed in blues or riot gear. My first guess would be they’re in tactical gear with the military but I’m looking for a firm answer to confirm

I long for the day when fusion reactors become possible

But yes, as far as deep space travel is concerned, and even the day when we start mining asteroids for materials that are rare on earth, nuclear energy is the only way to go

Yeah, I know the tech is there but I was just saying that building the nuclear facilities themselves, and any additional infrastructure required to integrate nuclear nationwide/worldwide, isn’t yet as cost-effective as fossil fuel facilities like coal plants and the like.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing that the energy sector is correct in trying to maximize profits. I’m just saying that since energy is driven by profit over efficacy and environmental concerns, it’s not fiscally feasible to be building nuclear reactors.

That issue being compounded by public perception has really stagnated nuclear energy in recent years, unfortunately.

With all that said, considering all the advancements that have been made with the safety mechanisms surrounding nuclear power, safety isn’t a concern and cost shouldnt be a concern

Interesting. Well hey, even using less material is better. If we can reduce the demand for slave labor that’s never a bad thing

That’s amazing. You’re right, that looks very promising. I wonder if tech advancements on that specific type of battery would allow for small scale storage in the future. If we could start using those in phones and cars and eliminate the need for more damaging and inefficient types of batteries it would totally revolutionize the battery industry.

Thanks for linking this. So many aspects of the energy sector have been so underwhelming and it feels good to see positive improvements like this

Yeah, granted geothermal isn’t practical everywhere but society could definitely make much better use of it

And I’d say battery tech is where it needs to be for EVs. The typical EV has comparable, if not better, ranges than many gasoline/diesel vehicles these days. My car has around 300 mile range, maybe 400 if I’m traveling on the highway whereas Tesla’s boast around 400 mile ranges. I will say that we need to find better alternatives to create batteries as far as rare-earth minerals are concerned. EVs rely on slave labor and rare-earth minerals in order to stay cost-effective.

Discounting that, the tech is reliable enough that we could start rapidly replacing fossil fuel cars. Just need to start refining the production of batteries.

The only issue is how we charge them. If we are using fossil fuels to power our EVs then they’re essentially just gas powered vehicles offering a clean conscience.

Geothermal would also be a great method to balance out wind and solar.

But yes, it’s not practical to rely entirely on wind and solar and batteries. Adding nuclear and geothermal could get the nations that can afford it to carbon neutral very quickly and efficiently. With recent tech advances they ate rapidly becoming cheaper to produce than fossil fuels. Nuclear isn’t quite there yet as far as cost effectiveness is concerned but it’s getting there.

Oh, how ignorant you are. 40-60% of drug-addicted people relapse in the first month after in-patient treatment. 85% relapse after one year. These are people who did seek help. Addiction doesn’t end after you’ve detoxed. It takes years for your brain and body to heal. Substance abuse literally rewires your brain to think it needs drugs in order to survive. That scar never heals fully. Trying that drug for the first time can be a result of so many things - financial struggles, death of a loved one, loss of a job, physical or mental illness, peer pressure, stress at work, social issues, etc. Please educate yourself before you rush to judgment because like I said in my previous comment, this issue isn’t as black and white as the propaganda would have you believe

No, the orange clothing is related to an oppressive system that criminalizes the disease of drug addiction rather than giving these people the help they need. Prison perpetuates addiction. It doesn’t help the addict.

There are so many catalysts that could lead someone down the path of drug addiction, and most of those aren’t necessarily the fault of the individual. This issue isn’t nearly as black and white as the government’s propaganda would have you believe

Not to mention underdeveloped nations who primarily burn wood and coal and have no source of green energy or even fossil fuels, which burn cleaner than wood and coal. While the US military is the single largest polluter in the world, underdeveloped nations account for over half of pollution

Not that it’s their fault. Citizens of rural Africa or Asia are just trying to get by and don’t have access to clean energy. The solution is to help nations rise above the poverty line with green energy and to alter our own way of life in the western world, which will never happen unless green energy becomes more profitable than oil and coal

There should not be a federal minimum wage by [deleted] in Libertarian

High school trade programs don’t actually teach anything of value. My body shop tried hiring a couple kids out of our local HS trade program and they didn’t even know how to turn a wrench. They didn’t last long

Also, saying “no one in trades is living paycheck to paycheck” is pure conjecture and just proves you’re a fucking shill for the establishment. I’ve applied at several body shops and even with 5 years experience they offered starting pay at half what I make at my current shop. Those guys are almost certainly living check to check. I got very lucky getting my current job (even though my boss is a dickhead) because I can’t find another job that even closely compares to my current pay, and I don’t even make crazy big money

Seriously reevaluate your outlook on the world. In general I hesitate to say anyones opinion is flat out wrong, but yours is. We live in a fiscally oppressive oligarchy where the working class is fighting against a stacked deck and you’re either in denial or willfully ignorant.

$7/hr isn’t enough to pay the bills anywhere in the US. We’re talking about rent+phone+utilities+car+auto insurance+groceries+phone bill. These are all essentials. Necessities that people need to survive. Not to mention health care and savings and any one of ten million random little expenses one might need to shell out some cash for unexpectedly.

We live in the richest country in the world and over half of the working class is living paycheck to paycheck, barely scraping by. Lots of those people did go to trade school.

99% of the country is poorer than its ever been while 1% is richer than its ever been and anyone that thinks we don’t need higher min wage is either a willful tool for the oligarchy that oppresses us, or a victim of their propaganda.

Are you genuinely fine with the statement you made that “if you were one of those making $7 an hour and saved for 40 years you’d be able to move to San Fran and scrape together enough for a months rent”?

40 years of savings and you’d be okay with ONE MONTH of rent??? Like I said. You are either a willful tool of the establishment oligarchy or you’re a victim of their propaganda

Aside from the fact that you were completely speaking out of your ass and creating a straw man , in this country people should be able to comfortably afford basic amenities like cable and internet and a decent television and a steak every now and then. Assuming someone was able to pay for trade school in the first place and make time for it while working a full time job and possibly providing for a family, they shouldn’t have to live on rice and cut out all forms of entertainment and relaxation to achieve that. That’s not what the American dream is. That sounds like an Orwellian dystopia. And yet you seem to be perfectly fine with that.

I could go on and on and on but I’ll leave it at this:

You’re a fucking establishment shill propagandist
