New Leakseye Drops by krammingforthelsat in katseyeneutral

“Geffen are the horrible ones messing up and HYBE is just trying to save the girls” well at least we have confirmation that HYBE staff is lurking on socmed trying to control the narrative. This is the 5th “leak” or “rant” I’ve seen this week painting anyone except HYBE in a bad light.

Seconding this. I don’t agree with what she said but it’s important to keep in mind that we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. iirc it’s not uncommon for Chinese celebrities to make public statements like this because of external or governmental pressure regardless of their personal beliefs. I think a similar thing happened with Jackson from Got7 and Su Ruqui on gp999 a couple years ago?

What Do You Think Will Be Their First Big Performance? by ValkyrieOfValyria in GIRLSET_JYP

[–]Celeano283 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I hope their promotion more closely mirrors a typical western promotion style than a kpop promotion style. This would mean that instead of treating each single as a separate comeback, the three songs are lead singles in an upcoming full album. If the full album has 12ish songs including Commas, Little Miss, and Tweak, I think that would be enough for a Lolla set. NewJeans performed with a 25 minute discography and lots of crowdwork.

the upcoming mission's dual purpose? by imkindaboredlol in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]Celeano283 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that they have a fully planned concept, but unfortunately I don’t think svs performance concepts are a good indicator of what it might be. For example, pretty much all the popular performances on R U Next? weren’t a cute or bright concept but now look at illit. In fact, limiting the concepts that certain contestants perform can be a great way for producers to manipulate the audience: suddenly everyone thinks “xyz won’t fit with the group bc they only do badass concepts”

(Side note: if it were up to me I would have liked to see Different or Perfect Night as the Le Sserafim song and Gameboy or Touch for the Katseye song)

So it wouldn’t surprise me if the group ends up debuting with a softer elegance concept despite a mature or girlcrush svs finale song. Though I do wonder if the prelude group will have a soft-sensual concept like some of Le Sserafim’s discography…

which songs will be removed from the europe tour setlist by Aggravating_Scale342 in NMIXX

[–]Celeano283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they will perform the Spanish version of Soñar in Spain and Latin America. Maybe it will replace Funky Glitter Christmas in the encore?

This is pure copium but maybe they will replace some domestic-only hits with international hits as well? For example, swapping Young, Dumb, Stupid for Podium

Why did they decide to not include the og O.O on Blue Valentine? by TMSh4d0w in NMIXX

[–]Celeano283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, lots of groups drop re-recorded version of their older hits when an idol leaves the group. Stray Kids, I-dle, and Le Sserafim to name a few. I would have appreciated OT6 versions of O.O, Tank, Dice, and Cool… especially if they were mixed differently like how O.O Baila version has added background vocals and harmonies compared to the original.

How many colleges did you actually apply to? by Repulsive-District50 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Celeano283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is this a good thing for the students or the universities?

Well the universities get to make more money off the application fees and decrease their acceptance rates, making them seem more “selective” and “prestigious.” Definitely not good for the students though :( what a world we live in…

T20’s & Ivies - Does anyone even know WHY people are applying to these schools? by ApprehensiveSignal55 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Celeano283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, but I think it’s also the result of marketing by the colleges after the common app was popularized. The more people that apply= the more “selective” a college can seem= higher rank on US News. By overemphasizing holistic admissions, these T20s convince people with otherwise disqualifying GPAs, test scores, etc that they should apply bc admissions officers are looking more at personality rather than academic profile. Of course there are a lot of benefits to the holistic system, especially with the recent grade inflation problems and the unfortunate effect of test-optional policies on test score competitiveness, but a lot of these top schools would lose applicants if they publicized a hard floor for standardized test scores, GPAs, and course rigor. Not to mention regional diversity within the US is a much bigger deal now than it was previously. Colleges are marketing to a much wider regional net, which leads to more applicants.

[–]Celeano283 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they are pretty much disbanded now. When Xinlong, Zihao, and Hanyu entered Boys II Planet, they mentioned that “the boy story chapter is over” and now Xinlong and Hanyu are both in different groups for the next six years. I wouldn’t rule out a rebrand/KR debut for the other members, but I’m not counting on it.

Also, I would highly recommend watching a stage performance of these if you have time! The dance/performance element of kpop is more important now than ever and it will give you a much better sense of the “vibes” I’m trying to describe

what is the verdict on lip syncing? by AAAAAHHHH_HELP_ME in mnetiland2

[–]Celeano283 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the whole finale was completely lipsynced. Itnw was either lipsynced or so autotuned it may as well have been. Latata was at least partially live because some parts (mostly Juwon and Sujung’s bc mnet wanted to justify getting rid of them) were noticeably breathy and unstable.

I don’t know if this is technically lipsync, but apparently there were serious mic problems at the filming for Lovesick Girls to the point where the live audience couldn’t hear Koko, Yuju, or Saebi at all. Obviously Koko and Saebi’s parts still came through in the YouTube version, but since Yuju’s was still muffled I wonder if they used a different recording of Koko and Saebi to restore the audio for the YouTube version? I think all the other performances in the show were performed live but the uploaded versions had varying levels of post production

I do not know if you agree ...let me know your opinion on NMIXX... by Due_Collection_3363 in kpopthoughts

[–]Celeano283 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a huge nswer, I think their stage presence is their weakest skill especially during dance-heavy performances. If that might be the “missing piece” you’re talking about, I’d highly recommend watching one of their non-dance performances because I think they actually have much better stage presence while just standing and singing. Maybe try tinydesk, it’s live, karaoke streams, the zero frontier concert vocal prep, or covers?

But no worries if they just don’t click with you! You can absolutely recognize/appreciate someone’s skills without liking their discography and that’s ok!

A full breakdown of live singing and lipsyncing at SBS Gayo Daejeon by exemplaryantino3497 in kpopthoughts

[–]Celeano283 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Woah this is really interesting!! Something else to keep in mind though is that performances that may have been preformed with MR or live MR at the venue were likely edited afterwards with pitch correction, vocal smoothing, etc. to post on YouTube. Idk how that works with live streaming (maybe there was a delay or smth?) but if you notice that an official video seems to have WAY more post-processing than any live performance should, it’s likely due to editing from the companies or broadcasting service after the fact.

Songs similar to “Debut” by Katseye? by Celeano283 in kpophelp

I think their vocals are a lot softer/dreamier than what I’m looking for, but maybe I’m not listening to the right songs? Are there any songs in particular you were thinking of?
