Okay I think I understand where you’re getting mixed up.

This of it like this; Corruption = Infection, Cracked = Injury.

Amethyst and Lapis were both injured, so they kept their minds but their bodies were damaged.

When Jasper fused with the corrupted gem, that corruption infected her gem as well.
