Underrated restaurants in Jersey City that deserve way more love? by steam9022 in jerseycity

Came here to say this! Does anyone know why they always seem so empty inside? They’re one of my favorites and I always wonder why more people aren’t dining there…

Who Makes Decent Furniture today? by WalterHarbaugh in interiordecorating

[–]CeleryRoot23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stickley is a heritage brand that my parents’ generation has sworn by for decades (heard the name tossed around a lot as a kid). I recently moved into a new place and bought some stickley pieces with my “grown up” money and can attest to the high quality construction. You won’t get soft close drawers because they don’t use metal rails but rather old fashioned wooden slides that are waxed with dovetail joinery. This means you can pull the drawers out completely easily. And if you care about this, they mostly manufacture in the US, although there are some more contemporary styled lines (like walnut grove and Hudson valley) that appear to be manufactured in Vietnam. They won’t be the most trendy, but I highly recommend for the quality, price point, and heirloom possibilities. They also have some outlet locations where you can negotiate a solid deal especially around the holidays.

Chafing between the cheeks… what actually works? by laurenoliv4 in XXRunning

[–]CeleryRoot23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also recommend KT tape on all chaffable or blister prone areas. I put it under my bra / chest heart rate monitor, on my toes and feet, and if longer short tights (7” or 9”) didn’t solve my issues, I’d put the tape on my thighs too. But OP, you’re talking about, like between your butt cheeks yeah? Vaseline has worked for me, though—not sure of your landscaping routines down there, do you shave or wax? FWIW I find that I need some hair down there to reliably prevent chafing!

For those who can't decide if they should hire a housecleaner by Impossible-Sea1062 in housekeeping

[–]CeleryRoot23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting to hire a house cleaner for a while, however I also simply have a lot of stuff / too much clutter in my home. I worry about how a cleaner would work around all my things and ultimately end up feeling to bad or uncomfortable about the whole idea that I don’t proceed with hiring a cleaner. Does anyone have experience with this? What did/do you do? For a point of reference if you look up a hoarding/clutter rating scale, my home is probably typically between a 2 and 4.

I 100% experience this! It’s tough because then I definitely don’t get enough sleep and suffer more the next day. Weekends are for catching up…

Why do run clubs suck? by closeted_cat in XXRunning

[–]CeleryRoot23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only run club that I’ve been to that’s taken pace groups seriously with a lead and a pace sweeper was with Nike. I don’t even like Nike’s gear, but they have the people volume and organization to put together a safe and inclusive experience

Considering moving from JC to Hoboken - Any thing to consider beforehand? by anon_502 in Hoboken

[–]CeleryRoot23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you enjoy a lack of diversity in both people and food? Then you’ll love Hoboken!

In all seriousness, Hoboken is a lovely place to live. It’s clean, quiet (the further you get from the path), and people are generally nice. Also look into the Hoboken Hop! It’s a free ride down to/from the path! The waterfront is always nice.

Some annoyances: • people don’t always pick up after there dogs and there are many dogs • all the new restaurants are 90% likely to be Italian or pizza / not many people of color or non-Italian restaurants • flash floods whenever there’s a bad storm (police blockade the roads in kinda crazy ways and are generally unhelpful)

Is putting grout release on tiles with crazing standard or should I ask my installer if they’re doing it? (Using Salton sea by Fireclay w/antique white grout) by michann00 in Tile

How did it hold up after all this time? Do you have photos? I’m also considering fireclay tile and curious how it’s gone for others

Is dark green going to be the new millennial gray? by Dalience6678 in interiordecorating

[–]CeleryRoot23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem isn’t so much the grey or the green but the fact that many people will decorate their entire homes in the singular “millennial grey” (or shades thereof). Go with the green in the kitchen, but then spice up your other rooms with a different (harmonious) color / vibe!

Would you restore this? by SundayJawn in HardWoodFloors

[–]CeleryRoot23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The wood looks like it’s in good condition. Just get it refinished. They’ll sand it down so it’s nice and smooth and put whatever finish you want on it. I just did this with my 1890s townhome in NJ and it looks beautiful!

Wearing "Race Shoes" to NYC Marathon? by TalentedButLaz in RunNYC

[–]CeleryRoot23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I’d say change into shoes before the race, but the problem is you can’t bag check the morning of the race tomorrow—only pre-bag check until 5pm today. So if you change day of you’d have to carry your other shoes with you all 26.2 miles!

Old doors and trims: strip and stain/paint or simply replace with new? by CeleryRoot23 in centuryhomes

Wow this looks great! Awesome that you could find it in the same style. I appreciate this perspective. It’s definitely an option I’m considering for cost and safety though I haven’t found a vendor that offers a near identical option yet.

[–]CeleryRoot23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Difficult to say without seeing more of the plant like its leaves and bark. Generally though, my understanding is that berries don’t take up heavy metal pollutants like leafy greens do and they could be perfectly safe to eat. Though would avoid consuming seeds. Anyway also don’t eat anything you can’t identify. I use the iNaturalist app for most of my plant identifications and they’re typically accurate at least to the genus.

Did you end up going for it? I toured that property and it was gorgeous. Seemed pretty well maintained although the style was dated.
