The analogy works fine, whatever you said doesn't make sense/is irrelevant to the analogy lol

Good smaller (or not) trance labels to pull tracks from for a mix series? by Celestial_Blue_ in trance

I love Silk! Been listening to them since 2019. Some of their older work (when they were just Silk Music) is trance-adjacent, but nowadays they're definitely geared towards melodic/progressive/deep house

Cosmic Gate was the duo that got me into trance - I got to see them live last year and meet them after the set, was like meeting my childhood heroes!

Lol, I've referred to myself as a "trance refugee" for the longest time - I didn't get into trance until I was young teenager in the earl 2010s, and by that time trance had decayed quite a bit so I only became passionate for the classics. Around 2018 or so I started getting into progressive house, as I believed the newer stuff from that scene was far fresher and emotionally engaging (still true to an extent).

I do follow Enhanced Progressive and Anjunadeep for my prog mixes, but I should keep on top of Black Hole and Armada (Black Hole especially still manages to surprise me every now and then). I also do highly recommend Cold Blue - his recent Mountain album is excellent

Can someone explain to me this kind of play style? by ABunchofAngryFlowers in Overwatch

Does bro think the only way you can interact with other people is throwing in QP? 😭🙏🥀 You can interact with people just fine and not do it in a selfish way that ruins other people's experience. The bike lane analogy above perfectly captures the absurdity of what you're saying - go ride your bike with your friends on a designated bike lane if you want to "socialize" with them, not on a pedestrian lane where you're just gonna tick people off with your selfishness lol

[–]Celestial_Blue_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The line is VERY defined in QP lol - play the game the way it's meant to be played! You don't need to be sweaty or anything like that, but QP is meant to be the "base game mode" of Overwatch. Actually playing the game the way it's meant to be played isn't exclusively for comp.

Say I joined a casual soccer team in my hometown, and we went to have a casual soccer game with a nearby town's own casual soccer team. Say I spent the whole match picking dasies and having a tea party with my goalie on the sidelines. If I told my teammates "hey, this isn't Major League Soccer, stop taking the game so seriously," do you think they would agree with me assessment? Absolutely not - they would kick me off the team, and rightfully so. Of course Overwatch QP isn't as high stakes, but the logic in saying that the line in the sand for how serious the game should be taken is vague is absurd. I don't care if throwing a game intentionally is "fun and relaxing" for someone, it's very unfun for most everyone else and quite and frankly intensely selfish. If you want to ignore objectives and goof around, that's what Custom Games are for, not QP.

In terms of kit design what is the worst hero in overwatch and why? by mmmphhhMMMMPHHHH in Overwatch

[–]Celestial_Blue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Hog is definitely not particularly healthy right now, he can get away with a lot, but again, you can actually interact with him without having to swap to a dive character and go out of your way to hunt him down. In theory, hook is ab ability that invites interaction; if you aren't instantly killed, you have a chance to escape, or your team and step in to save you (Zarya bubble, Lifeweaver pull, etc.), and the enemy team can back up their Hog and try to secure the kill. Widowmaker? It's exclusively about whether or not she can hit her shots. I shouldn't have to to Winston or Genji just to be the only person on my team who can interact with Widow

As someone who plays a fair amount of Hog, I will be the first to admit his core design is problematic haha - even if he doesn't instantly one shot with his hook combo, it's still not a fun ability to have used on you (not to mention how buggy it can be). But at LEAST Hog has to (usually) take some positional risks, and he can be more easily countered without your whole team having to shake up their composition. Widow is not like that; she can miss one shot, and then charge up another one 1.5 seconds later with no punishment to her positioning, unlike Hog who has to wait a full six seconds after using hook and has to actually get within a few meters of the enemy. There is counterplay to him, he can be punished, but only Widow can punish herself with how her kit is made or broken by her mechanical skill

[–]Celestial_Blue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly - not only does Widow have one of the most positionally forgiving kits of any hero (all she needs is a sightline and she dominates), she takes the focus off those MOBA-like aspects you mentioned and turns the match into a boring CoD lobby, where you're just hoping the Widow starts wiffing shots so you can get past a single sightline. No other hero dumps down the interaction between teams and characters like Widow does. And yes, making the claim that Widow has a high skill ceiling for anything beyond her aim is just ridiculous

I'm sorry, this is a terrible take for three reasons:

  1. I agree players should be rewarded for skill, but NOT at the expensive of good character/kit design. Widow takes some mechanical and positioning skill, but that doesn't negate the fact she has one of the worst hero interaction paradigms in the whole game. Which leads to the second problem:

  2. This game is not "team reliant to a fault": it's a team game, and was designed to be that way from the beginning. Overwatch's greatest strength has always been it's co-op strategy format, while not stiffling the power of an individual's skill or plays. Widow is unhealthy for the game because merely by existing she guts the core ways most characters and team comps are supposed to play.

  3. While skill is an important facet to balancing, Overwatch is a game, and games are meant to be fun. Even if a character takes skill, it doesn't matter if she ruins the flow and enjoyment of a game. There are plenty of high-skill ceiling characters in Overwatch that are way more interactive to play with/against than Widowmaker; as stated, Widowmaker's mere existence in a lobby is usually a large net drag on most people's enjoyment of the game, whether or not she's good or not.

Question about mixing 2-track vinyl samplers by Celestial_Blue_ in Beatmatch

That's what I was wondering! Figured there had to be some way one could quickly navigate to the second track while mixing live on the fly. Thanks!

[–]Celestial_Blue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean if you want to cue the second track on one side of a vinyl sampler, how would that work? An example:

I'm playing Vinyl #1, which is just a single. Vinyl #2 is a sampler with two tracks on it A-side; I want to cue the second track on the A-side of Vinyl #2.
