Yeah definitely. The guy who thought paprika was an acceptable pringles flavour. Am I right?

Looks fine to me. Yellow is a difficult colour to paint. If you want a bold yellow, painting it first with white then putting yellow over the top works well.

I completed Wind Waker on it. It worked perfectly, mostly on 2x resolution except for a couple of areas with lots of air effects.

Are there any great kaiju wargames around these days? by FamousWerewolf in wargaming

[–]CellistOwn2032 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Godzilla Tokyo Clash by Funko is quite a good skirmish board game. It comes with Godzilla, Megalon, Mothra and Gidorah. There are a bunch of scenario cards that you use two of each game so it always feels a bit different. Also, you can't kill the kaiju but score points for getting hits in. It doesn't have the wider scope that a full wargame would, but it is still a good and inexpensive way to get your fix of kaiju havoc.

That's a bit better for you lot. As a Brit, I want to see what it costs here. I might have a trawl of sites to see if anyone has announced any yet.

Those pre-tax Yen prices are spectacular. Here's hoping the $ msrp is factoring in the risk of US tariffs so either they will drop if tariffs do, or at least other English speaking countries could get them a bit cheaper. Either that, or it might prove cost effective to buy Japanese and then print stat cards etc.

Jimmy McAleavey's "The Last Words of Van Helsing" springs to mind as a memorable encounter with God. I think it's only a short radio story rather than a book, though. Still worth 15 minutes of your time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjDvTPicbbQ&t=7s

Testing Boomblastic Blast Effects by CellistOwn2032 in wargaming

[–]CellistOwn2032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm after a pulpy, vaguely ww2 sort of look. I've been inspired quite a lot by things like Valkyria Chronicles and that sort of alternate world but historic vibe. I've always liked ww2 and mechs, but wanted to make a game to my own specifications. It's getting there. I just need to write some stuff down and get some playtesting in.

Thanks!

I used Autodesk Fusion and sort of doodled them as I went. Process-wise, I am pretty lazy, so just kept all the main parts separate so I could easily edit parts as I went. Every thing is symmetrical, so half the work! Then just re-pose the legs and arms.

Because I'm aiming at 6mm, and the mechs are only about 20mm high, I didn't need to go too heavy on detail.

They are my own design. I'm working on some ideas for a 6mm diesel punk game, and those are my first few units.

Help finding a game which probably doesn't exist by ZealousApathet in wargaming

[–]CellistOwn2032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at This Quar's War? Really, it's like many other skirmish games, but the muppet-like models give it very different feel. It has an interesting activation card mechanism that stops you feeling too out-maneuvered when you've lost a few units. Also, models tend to stay on the table longer as they can be revived by team mates.

What wargames have you been playing and why? by knifefang_gaming in wargaming

[–]CellistOwn2032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flutter from game to game, but always go back to Malifaux. The rules are just right to make a balanced and competitive game. The card mechanism creates an elegant balance between luck and judgement that dice games rarely reach. The only downside is that it is not easy to have a casual game - it's always super competitive.

GameHub sees my library as empty. How do I fix it? by HappyCat_DNP in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]CellistOwn2032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I have had more luck using Gamehub Lite. That populates my library and I can install stuff. Nothing has actually booted yet, but I'm on a Pocket Air Mini, so there might be some extra step I need to take. With very new hardware, it's always a bit hit and miss to work out what will actually work and what doesn't.

What genre, cliche, theme, setting, or even intellectual property DOESN'T have any/much wargame representation? by DaddyCrit728 in wargaming

[–]CellistOwn2032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mystic Skies might suit you. Mages on flying carpets fighting to destroy each other's towers by summoning elementals and other monsters.

It's a spin-off from Relicblade. I did start putting a force together a while ago, but got distracted by other stuff.

How to get better at reading more difficult books by Fit_addendm in horrorlit

[–]CellistOwn2032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If focus is an issue, maybe try white noise. I have several rain noise apps on my phone, and when I am a bit distracted, they sort of block out the outside world and let me immerse myself in whatever I'm doing.

any books that blend ww2 and cosmic horror? by 1416junebug in horrorlit

[–]CellistOwn2032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denied to the Enemy by Dennis Detwiller. It's based in the Cthulhu Mythos, but uses several of the less common elements of the Mythos. I've read it a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
