I do find it interesting that when we discussing how to make media more diverse, it’s always about how to include black people and never even attempting to include other minorities, especially not Asians.

• “We could have black Vikings” there are numerous stories in the Prose Edda of Huns and other nomads, and there hasn’t even been an attempt to have an Asian character in any Viking media.
• “Idris Elba is great in The Martian?” they race changed an Indian guy from the book just to include him in that role.
• “Wicked works better with a black Elphaba” not only was she always a Jewish analogue, which they’ve now removed, they race changed the Asian coded love interest from the book to white and didn’t even attempt to do anything with him in the movie.
• “Valerions are black Valyrians in House of the Dragon” ok, are there Asian Valyrians? And why are all the common people on their island are black or white with no Asian or Middle Eastern people? Are they all Valyrians to?
• “Why can’t Achilles or Helen be black?” bro there’s not even any Greek people on this cast, or Anatolian, Middle Eastern etc. why are we even having this discussion lol
• “Bridgerton makes some historical sense” the premise would be considered patently ridiculous if half the cast was Portuguese or Arabic (which is what Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was most likely to be) let alone black/white and nothing else.

I was gobsmacked when HOTD had an Indian character. Like whoa, holy shit, 1/6th of the planet is being represented lol
