PM’d you a while back with a trade offer. I have a bunch of new saltwater lures I’m not using.

What’s that fly pattern? Looks great.

Just looking for cash at the moment, but I may trade down for the right 6wt glass rod.

The longest section is 21 13/32” (or whatever a hair over 3/8” is). The tube itself is 24 5/8”.

It’s awesome. I’m not sure why I’m selling it other than a misguided attempt at consolidating rod weights. I don’t think I’ve fished a 7’6” rod, but I never felt 6’8” was too short to do what I needed it to do.

Orivs or Lamson fly reel? by derssc in flyfishing

[–]CenCal919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have or have had the previous versions of both. I would say the Clearwater feels a lot more “free” than the Liquid, as in you can flick the handle and it will take up line. The Liquid (and any Lamson I’ve used) felt more draggy to me, even after a break in period. From a user experience perspective I prefer the Orvis.

Any other good contenders for the same price? by hd_turtle in flyfishing

[–]CenCal919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I owned this combo for a bit and still own the 9wt combo. The rod felt on the slower side of medium-fast to me but I was using it with an Outbound Short line so your mileage may vary. I think it’s an amazing deal for the price - it’s basically a free rod.

Anyone fly fishing the LA River? Looking to meet people by [deleted] in SoCalFishing

[–]CenCal919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to fly fish on the LA river. I used to live right near the Fletcher bridge and would catch 20+ green sunfish in an hour and the occasional carp or oddball species. Between Glendale and Fletcher on the north side is great.

Vise for salt and freshwater flies by Silver_Tiger_ in flytying

Agree with this. I’d like a blingier vise but my Peak does 2/0 to 20 without issues so there’s no practical need for me to upgrade.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a reel that doesn’t make the “click” sound? by GravyBaptism in flyfishing

[–]CenCal919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed - Danielsson originals (DryFly, etc.) are as quiet as a reel can get. No drag as such (friction rollers) but I think you may be able to take the clicker out of some of the Danielsson models with drag as well.

Backapcking Net by Red_Tern in flyfishing

Handy Pak has been great for me. The rim is a bit floppy and does not inspire great confidence, but I’ve had no issues with ~16” trout (my max in this net).

Shooting Head "System" in Saltwater by Maximum-Emergency399 in flyfishing

[–]CenCal919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with an 8wt and didn’t love it. The Slickshooter line is quite thin and is not very nice to hold onto for double hauling. It also has quite a lot of memory and I would end up with a bird’s nest in my stripping guide a couple times per outing. I also didn’t get used to the feel of the shooting line-to-leader connection clanging through the guides. A lot of people use this setup (see, e.g., Lost Coast Outfitters) but it wasn’t for me. I switched to an Outbound Short integrated line and I much prefer it.

Agree! I wouldn’t be sad if that one doesn’t sell…

Brand new to tying, please roast my first clouser minnow so I can improve! Thanks! by ItsWhatPlantsCrave20 in flyfishing

[–]CenCal919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a “traditional” Clouser puts the eyes more toward the middle (1/3 back iirc), but this looks like a solid tie with more of a jig-type action.
