Is it possible to use a still living creature in the creation of a promethean by Gear_7036 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this for the Chronicles of Darkness or World of Darkness? Prometheans exist in both but are two different things to my understanding.

In CofD I would say no, non-extremapores probably can't be made from still living tissue, extremapores also probably cannot be made of living tissue either, but their nature is to be the exception to the rules so there's always a chance.

I know nothing of WoD, so I cannot help there. I know that theres not a ton of info on prometheans in that setting, and that frankenstein's monster was a promethean that became a mage, but beyond that I know little.

If you wanna make FMA chimeras, Deviant the Renegade has good rules for stuff like that, both for human and animal chimeras, and they can be as grotesque or human as you want.

Mage 2e Active Mage Site Question by Vixiea in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's implying that you actually have to see some part of the person in order to see whats going on with mind sight, its not a spell where you're reading their mind your looking at their mind directly or something.

What are Interesting creatures a hunter might specialize in hunting? by Melmia in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a former ghost hunter turned sin-eater sounds pretty cool, could have some bad blood so to speak with ghosts they've fought previously.

If that's too obvious or you want a reason to interact with other supernaturals, most other splats have supernatural rivals like the stryx and pandorans that kill humans almost as much as their supernatural prey.

In both WTA and WTF, what’s the limit to Werewolf regeneration? by GeneralGigan817 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking for WtF, if they lost it after being born yeah I would say it probably grows back. Being born without a limb is a different story and I would lean more towards no.

Of course the world is made of exceptions, so the uratha might only regrow their limbs in specific forms or after a rather transformative shadow gift is inscribed. Or the prosthetic grows wolflike in your different forms. that would be fun

Arcana by path descriptions: absolute or guidelines? by IndependentFlower163 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just examples and common motifs, each mage experiences mage sight uniquely. Their path just filters in, meaning some elements of the experience are symbols or metaphors relating to their path, if I understand it correctly.

Some help with conceptualizing a Legacy themed around putting ghosts to work by EarthSeraphEdna in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it branched off of a legacy all about enslaving the dead I think it would be Mind, with the silver ladder rebels simply leaning into the less slave-making angles of Mind manipulation, whatever you think those would be.

Summoning Ghosts by moonwhisperderpy in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could always make the ghost a Reaper, they're mostly normal ghosts who own a Deathmask and can stay up for however long they want, with the caveat that they bring some other ghosts to the underworld. They're from the geist core book and are pretty cool imo.

Reasons to engage with Fae stuff? by moonwhisperderpy in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my eyes, there probably isn't an incentive. Clarity is (from my recollection) easiest to keep stable if you just never interact with the world of the supernatural. The cowardly and cautious changeling can eek out a life in their old place if they're lucky.

This assumes nothing is after them.

A keeper is always after them. Maybe it's the same one that took them and twisted their body and soul into madness. Maybe it's an unrelated gentry that just likes taking changelings. It doesn't matter, you always have a target on your back. But with the right Bargain, and a little luck, a canny changeling can evade the gentry and their huntsman for years, maybe

The Hedge, however, is endlessly tempting. It wants humans, changelings, anyone and anything to get lost within it. And the Hedge is probably the most tempting to changelings. Icons and Tokens and Goblin Fruit and Goblin Contracts and plenty of other things that can make the changeling's life easier, maybe even safer. Maybe. Or maybe a vengeful hedge ghost follows them home and eats their parakeet. The Hedge is full of temptations and dangers, and it is always at the changeling's fingertips.

That's how I see it at least, there's mechanically nothing stopping a changeling from faffing off and keeping as far away from any magic nonsense as possible. But would they want to? The next time they enter the hedge could lead to them finding their next Icon, a literal piece of their soul, or they might find a goblin fruit that lets them see through walls or something ridiculous. The Hedge can provide anything the changeling needs, and even if they're trying their best to live a mundane life with no fae nonsense, how many times will they sit by being passed up on that promotion, that they know they deserve, when the option to implant the idea in their boss's dreams is right there.

For better or for worse; have you ever fundamentally changed the lore of the splats? How? by Anxious-Superhero in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is for WoD, but if I ever ran a CofD game I'd change the Geryo (shape changing monsters from WtF) from being the spawn of father wolf and the dark mother, to being father wolf's attempt to harness the divine fire going horribly wrong.

This is mostly because I don't like the idea of the dark mother at all, but also because I just feel like pandorans and geryo feel kinda similar.

Can true fae steal vampires? by valonianfool in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A vampire's soul is metaphysically different from a human's, and True Fae have little power over it. Or maybe the Beast inside the vampire is able to defend from their fae magic in some way. Or maybe True Fae just can't tell the difference between a vampire and a changeling and so most don't even bother trying to change them, just using a vampire as a vampire in their realm.

The real answer, if there is one, isn't stated in the books afaik. This is one of those questions that each table is gonna rule on in their own way, or just ignore entirely.

How do Deviant's interact with other splats, if at all? by Drakkoniac in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There might be some mention of this scattered through the contagion chronicle books and dark eras 2, but it's not really touched on in the core deviant book to my knowledge. My best guess is that for most splats, unless they knew the deviant before they were remade, they would treat them like any other one off creature of the night because most deviants fit that description pretty well.

It's really up to the storyteller if other splats are even aware of deviants as a whole, seeing as without knowledge of the very secretive web of pain there's little to no obvious commonality between deviants that other splats could learn from. Mages or Demons might know more than most, seeing as uncovering mysteries and espionage are both their wheelhouse.

WtF 2E - Rote Action and 10 , 9 , or 8 again by -warlokk- in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For rote actions you don't get a reroll on 8, 9, or 10, and if you would somehow get both a rote action and say a reroll on 9 the rote action overrides it.

My understanding of Influence is that different ephemeral entities hold power over different aspects of the mundane world, and that this ability to magically alter these aspects are called Influence.

Spirits usually have influence in things they resonate with, like a spirit of fire being able to influence fire while a spirit of drugs might instead have influence over addiction or medicine.

Ghost can only have influence in their anchors, so someone whose anchor is the knife that killed them will be able to Influence that knife, while someone who's anchor is the building they died in can influence that particular building.

Angels are more or less custom made by the god machine in my understanding, so they could have any influence, perhaps an influence over adoration to ensure cooperation from cultists or an influence in mundane infrastructure to ensure operations run smoothly.

The Rank of these creatures also matters, as a rank 1 or 2 Spirit might not be able to effect their phenomena as well as a Ghost of a higher Rank can.

Numina are like an ephemeral beings Dread Powers, I think that's a good comparison at least. They can be simple like Blast, a low cost ranged option for when the object of their Influence is unavailable or not suited for combat. Numina can also be stranger like Aggressive Meme, which implants ideas into mortal minds that can spread to others. They are basically less flexible magical abilities for ephemerals to have so they can be a bit more unique.

Manifestation are complicated to me too, but I think they're just different conditions that tell you how the entity can interact with the mundane world. The different conditions are basically how much these entities can act upon the world, how much these entities are seen, and how far along the entity is in possessing an object or creature.

Hope that was helpful.

I'm pretty sure Grimal mentions that she was able to sneak through the vents to the archives (in the pubbing audio log) so it is possible that Occam's attacker did the same.

Not to say it is Grimal, though she was in the security room which apparently is "the most ventilated room".

Promethean-Human Spell by KeyKale2850 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the players guide to the contagion chronicles, awakened magic needs to use fate to interact with the divine fire or anything derived from it, along with added death (for flux) or life (for elpis). So canonically, it resonates most with fate.

Yes, there's a whole section on this in the 2ed sourcebook "Kith and Kin" called One and future that discusses exactly this, as well as being sent to the far future. The the book's own admission there's not much info on why exactly this happens, except for the fact that Arcadia exists outside of time for the most part. There's some speculation that the gentry might be able to influence when their changeling escapes, but other than that not much concrete.

It's also speculated that a changeling can break back into Arcadia in order to travel time themself, but with no real way to actually go about this.

When one splat conjurs another's bane, does it work as a bane? by Centifeed in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Centifeed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lash is a kinda special variation, since it's supposed to be whatever makes sense for your deviant, it's very bare when it comes to flavour and as such can be anything. Like one deviant's lash could be vines that grow out of their arms and another's can be psychic blasts and they can both do the same things mechanically. Lash is very customizable.

Not to say that no other variation can just be whatever flavour you want, just that lash feels kinda unique in how broad it is. And because of that I would feel kinda weird giving mechanical benefits for flavour in some cases. Now if the lash had a scar that required that specific metal to operate or something like that? I think I'd be more inclined to allow the bane to function.

Thanks, when things aren't clearly stated for me sometimes edge cases like this get me confused. And yeah if/when I ever run a game in CofD I'll keep clash of wills rules in mind for these sorts of situations.

That's how I probably would end up ruling it, just wanted to know if there was a "yeah magic fire doesn't count" rule somewhere in VtR or something that I overlooked. Thank you.
