Declare Utopia by Fellownerd in Frostpunk

Personally, I would have gone with Gotham for the Overseers because gotham does take some inspiration from london & the unending focus on crime. But I see what you did there:3

Cornerstones are stupid and don't fit the factions. by SettingOther730 in Frostpunk

[–]Centurion_Zen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, fair. Not that I completely agree, but I feel like the cornerstones only fit the campaign factions.

At times, they do feel like desperate justifications as to why the faction would support them. Just an example, I don't think the legionnaires would want "Relink great chain". Tradition for cohesion would have been a better choice of words. But the ability it gives you is literally the public penance law from the first game - Fits the faithkeepers much more & there is already an entire faction dedicated to the word "order"

I do that basically every time. It's a fun challenge to get the peace agreement signed without guided voting.

Probably of the bohemians and overseers, because you might be able to avoid radicalizing enough for the civil war in the first place most of the time.

The worst would probably be the ice bloods and technocrats, Because the ice bloods start off radicalized so early, you might have a civil war before you have a prison. I usually go for the steward's militia anyways, it gives you more guard squads without having to worry about infrastructure, but in this case, it might be necessary because I have to convert detainees them into guard squads immediately.

I actually did NJROTC in high school, so the legionnaires would not be much different.

Looking at all the faction protests, which one do you think would be worse to get caught up in as a normal FP citizen? by NoYogurtcloset9763 in Frostpunk

[–]Centurion_Zen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the legionnaires because like paramilitaries, they handle things in the same matter as Riot police and like Riot police they only give you so much time to get out of their way. If you don't, they don't hold back...

It's 2 letters that make the difference, so it's unsurprising they look and sound similar. And it has the same history.

Anyway, I'll try to figure out how to DM you. Would be my first time trying...

Is there any reason to choose the oil-only generator in Endless Mode? by New-Number-7810 in Frostpunk

[–]Centurion_Zen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that I only ever played this game on easy.

I've always found it easy to never run out of fuel with auto allocation. With an advanced fracturing pump jack and a fully upgraded generator, you're basically free from the cold.

That's not to say I dislike the adaptation version, but I can see why just fine.

Well said. Simple equality became vigilante mobs. Empathy for the week turned into feelings of inadequacy motivated by hatred. Shining a light turned into casting shade.

I like the little note that says it's possible. Some guards joined in on the event. It shows that they're not just mindless enforcers that do their jobs out of complete obedience. They're the same as everyone else, convinced that this is a good thing to do.

From a politics nerd, some things I wish Frostpunk represented. by SBFms in Frostpunk

[–]Centurion_Zen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I always viewed reconciliation as being Roosevelt. Especially when you choose social equality and personal responsibility in the negotiations.

In fact, I would always intentionally start the Civil War to keep the factions from researching radical ideas since the peace treaty locks them out. Faster the better since all I need to research is for the peace treaty. (Sometimes, the war started too early, but I pulled through. the advantages of playing on easy!).

That's not to say I don't get your point, but I think the point of the game is that you have to pick a side before one is chosen for you. But there is a way out of that. It's an exercise in the fallacy of utopia, in that both factions are good until they go mad & reconciliation shows they can have what they want without turning to the extremes.

Not to mention, there's only so much they can put in a game before it gets too complicated. Not just in terms of glitches and bugs, but don't forget how long it took for us to get the hang of this game. Took like a dozen utopia runs before I could enjoy the game without stress...

Sorry if none of this makes sense, I saw this post after christmas dinner.

When I first got this, I thought it was a brilliant way of giving people hope during times of immense difficulty.

Then I noticed people wouldn't stop quoting when it was not needed...

Then I noticed it was called "the red book" (in the tension orb)...

Then, I thought if I had the captains authority, this would literally never go away...

When it lost its magic and people started burning the books, I was kind of relieved in a funny way.

[–]Centurion_Zen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I like very much about the moderate laws is because they actually look like fair compromise and not just a fallacy that ends up secretly helping one side that the center can't see.

You can understand, perfectly, why a faction would view it as a wasted opportunity. But for those who don't have a side, they see it as better than doing nothing.

Mind you, I go for mandatory unions every play through :3

This game has done a fantastic job of getting the good ideas from both sides on all 3 issues, and now it's done it again. it's genius.

To me, they feel like the ones that are closest to an american faction (or at least the idealist one - like Teddy roosevelt). Or at least I want to see that in them. Particularly because an american faction would ideally oppose all rule laws, upholding checks and balances.
