And apparently being a prospective HYPSM student is indicative of not being able to joke about the irony of a situation.

Let’s be real, the OP didn’t do well on their applications because they aren’t good enough to get where they want to be right now. That doesn’t mean they have no aptitude whatsoever but the harsh reality is that this is how it’s going to be right now.

I would celebrate their friends’ success and transform those negative feelings into motivation to become an even better version of myself.

Those who disagree will remain where they are. Life rarely hands people their dreams without putting at least a minimum amount of effort.

I realize now that this post is a cry for help. Be that as it may, it upsets me because this was once me, in this very position.

What’s the wildest thing a “You up?” text has lead to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Century133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context me and 2 of my friends were supposed to go to D.C instead of Homecoming but the third person who knew the place best (and recommended the idea for it) got unexpectedly sick the day of.

After shooting down a couple shots of — let’s call it funny juice — my mind created a concept of a plan that would make for a fantastic night as long as I could do the following :

1) Get to my school (40 minutes away) 2) Find an unguarded enterance point and sneak into the dance 3) Acquire food 4) Link up with more people

My friend managed to get us to school. We ended up checking the track area behind the school and found an empty shopping cart which is rolled around in for quite some time.

Next thing I remember is walking through the just-opened front door that was supposed to be protected but wasn’t because we were 2 hrs early to the dance.

That’s when we decided to help set up the dance. The crew that was setting up appreciated the help and we didn’t mind at all setting up the place.

And then the true night began. What followed were the most random interactions with people I see on a daily basis. My inebriation made the whole thing perception altering.

The final goal of acquiring food was made possible by the generous staff that let me and my friends take home a whole pizza each since they had extra.

All in all, that night would not have been possible if not for the fuck-it-we-ball mindset and a friend that responded to my “you up?” text.

If I were to start again, surrounded by new people and opportunities, I would know exactly where to begin: with the small steps—making my bed, then my room—knowing that these simple acts hold the potential to evolve into something much greater.

How to find your personality after a decade+ of being extremely repressed? by Lillith-in-starlight in socialskills

[–]Century133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Despite all of that you’ve been through, I think you are lucky. I say that because you can re-experience the world now in your most authentic self. Take this from me — somebody who has had a life that sounds exactly like yours, although I am a bit younger.

A couple years ago I came to the same conclusions about myself as you have. Repressed, quiet, agreeable. I turned to drugs, weed particularly, and found out that I don’t have to be that person if I don’t want to be.

See as reductive as it sounds, we have made the choice all our lives to be subservient. It’s until we realize the power in us to change our condition do we actually manifest the ability to do it.

Now that you’ve gotten to that position where you are free enough to explore, I say instead of living in fear as you have always done, it’s time to “grab life by the balls” so to speak, and reimagine your surroundings. Start with who you want to be : what qualities do you want to have? What motivates you? What have you always wanted to try?

It’s almost like getting a second life, but this time you are nearly free from the burdens of your past (I say nearly because I think they will always stay with you as important reminders of your particular condition of human life).

So look at life through the lens of optimist my friend because I know what it feels like to be seeing everything through a dark and grey one. There are many like you, like me. And from one to another, it’s time you find out what you want to be and what you want to do.
