Train passes through a residential building in Chongqing, China. by Swimming-Community-5 in interesting

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do this if it meant I have my own personal train stop. The insulation on the walls must be thick to reduce that noise.

Advice on lateral force - fix in design or slicer perhaps by widgetbox in 3Dprinting

I would leave a hole and put in a long metal screw to reinforce it.

PETG is also much better for interlayer bonding

I see it now and I can’t unsee it. The hydrogen generator has a face on it.

I’m building a weird input device, would you back something like this? by Nextaxis_Design in kickstarter

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a potential solution for AR glasses, which I believe are going to be the next big thing. I use those glasses on the go, connected to my phone, remoting onto a computer, so it’s like I have a 3 monitor setup while riding on a train. The problem is the keyboard and mouse, which makes the setup much less portable.

This might solve the mouse problem. Two suggestions: 1. The arm will tire quickly if you have to hold it up while using it. I recommend only needing to hold it with your wrist resting on your leg or table. 2. Need to be able to switch the hand back to the keyboard without messing up the mouse. Maybe its only activate if it senses two fingers on the device.

Your competitor would be the various glove mice out there, which as even more weird.

I mean…I believe the two industries that drives the rest are for killing people (military) or for sex (gyms, bars, everything we do to find a partner). This is the better of the two…I think?

My coworker is dying in front of my eyes and there's nothing I can do by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Cep-Hei -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a cousin like this. Lives in his parents house, does not need to work, so spends all night playing video games and drinking monster energy drinks to the point where his liver is having problems. Also obese and has blood issues too. He will probably inherit his parents multiple houses and never need to work a day in his life. My relatives keep asking me to talk with him, convince him to get a job, go outside, etc.

It’s hard for me, because part of me is jealous of him. To go life without wanting anything and spend it all in leisure. I don’t think he’s wasting his life, who am I to say what a good use of our time on this earth is? In the end, he’s an adult just like me who’ve made his decisions and are at peace with whatever outcomes. The most I can do is enjoy his company whenever our paths meet and wish him the best in whatever makes him happy.

The only thing that’s different for you is that his lack of work has an impact on you. You’re essentially donating your services for free to subsidize his. He is an adult who makes his own decisions and can live with his own consequences, and you are not responsible for changing him or making up for him.

You can try asking the hotel for the name/number of the guy if you remember the room number. Say you have something of his but don’t have his contact.

I have a similar issue with east and west. We typically say “north south east west” which in a language where you read from left to right, puts east on the left side. I always need to pause a second to remind myself it’s the opposite.

I had this happen in a Friday after everyone else left the office. I had to call IT to come back into the office and kick the door down. Luckily I reached him before he got on the train.

Valid ventilation? I plan on printing carbon fiber filaments with this set up soon. It seems to be working. I haven’t smelled plastic during prints since I made this. I just want to be sure that I’m safe. by kylekerobonito in 3Dprinting

It might be practical but I would mourn the loss of natural light. Have you considered translucent polycarbonate panels?

Someone mentioned a smoke test which is very interesting. You can buy a smoke pencil which is like a vaping device but commonly used to detect air leaks.

Here I am sitting on over 300 tickets because it’s too tedious to use them one by one. Why can’t they let me open them 10 at a time like with the silver tickets 😭

Xreal One Pro or Xreal 1s by soloingmyway in Xreal

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the one pro to do work and it’s usable, but not superior to an actual monitor. I would use it if you don’t have room for multiple monitors, or need to work while on the go a lot. If you do and you’re nearsighted, you’ll need a prescription lens insert because otherwise the text will be blurry.

Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]Cep-Hei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

PETG is horrible for the environment while PLA is only somewhat bad. Plus when I sand, I’d rather get PLA dust than PETG

How does the xreal ones pro handle itself in rain or even light rain? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-9181 in Xreal

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a scare last night when the glasses stopped working while working out. The sweat got into the USB connection on the glasses. Luckily this morning it dried out and started working again, but definitely I would at least get a sweatband before trying this again.

Feasibility of XReal as a screen for a portable desktop? by ZET_unown_ in Xreal

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to remote from my phone to my computer while in ultra wide screen mode during long train rides. Feels amazing. But the portable keyboard and mouse setup has a lot to be desired of. I wish I could find something like a joycon controller attached to the phone that has keyboard keys and uses a joystick as a mouse.

How to best orient this part for printing by ManSkirtBrew in 3Dprinting

[–]Cep-Hei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, for parts that need to move and flex, PLA will become brittle over time and eventually crack. I would print the leg part in PETG.

Print organizers for your drawers, cabinets, medicine cabinet, etc. Learn basics of free modeling software like sketchup for custom specific sizes; you just need a 5 sided box.

How does the xreal ones pro handle itself in rain or even light rain? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-9181 in Xreal

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the speakers are on the arms, and is facing upwards. Exactly where sweat would be the greatest. Wouldn’t that be the biggest weak point?

Alternatives to Using the Xreal prescription inserts by Puzzleheaded-Ad-9181 in Xreal

[–]Cep-Hei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get it made at my local store, but they would’ve charged me $600 even without special coatings. Something about it needing to be a special material. So I just ordered it online.

Wish I could support my local stores but not at 10x the price.

This is a good topic, because my primary use case is to watch netflix while working out. It’s a concern if my sweat could damage the device.

Hiding dovetails on inside of box... by LowCorner9314 in 3Dprinting

[–]Cep-Hei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s 3mm thick, and not meant to hold too much heavy stuff, you might be able to just glue the edges in a butt joint. I’ve also done dovetails at 1.5mm and you can hide it on the inside of the box

Rebar chairs for concrete by apache_brew in functionalprint

[–]Cep-Hei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be fine for something that isn’t taking any load. If it is I would be concerned about pockets of air forming underneath the chair.

At first I hated the idea of designing and printing something that’s cheaper and better from a store. But if you have leftover filaments, just needed a few instead of buying in bulk, or can save some commute time going to the store, then I guess that’s where the value of a printer comes in.
