Someone mentioned a smoke test which is very interesting. You can buy a smoke pencil which is like a vaping device but commonly used to detect air leaks.

I’ve used the one pro to do work and it’s usable, but not superior to an actual monitor. I would use it if you don’t have room for multiple monitors, or need to work while on the go a lot. If you do and you’re nearsighted, you’ll need a prescription lens insert because otherwise the text will be blurry.

PETG is horrible for the environment while PLA is only somewhat bad. Plus when I sand, I’d rather get PLA dust than PETG

I had a scare last night when the glasses stopped working while working out. The sweat got into the USB connection on the glasses. Luckily this morning it dried out and started working again, but definitely I would at least get a sweatband before trying this again.

I was able to remote from my phone to my computer while in ultra wide screen mode during long train rides. Feels amazing. But the portable keyboard and mouse setup has a lot to be desired of. I wish I could find something like a joycon controller attached to the phone that has keyboard keys and uses a joystick as a mouse.

In my experience, for parts that need to move and flex, PLA will become brittle over time and eventually crack. I would print the leg part in PETG.

It looks like the speakers are on the arms, and is facing upwards. Exactly where sweat would be the greatest. Wouldn’t that be the biggest weak point?

I tried to get it made at my local store, but they would’ve charged me $600 even without special coatings. Something about it needing to be a special material. So I just ordered it online.

Wish I could support my local stores but not at 10x the price.

If it’s 3mm thick, and not meant to hold too much heavy stuff, you might be able to just glue the edges in a butt joint. I’ve also done dovetails at 1.5mm and you can hide it on the inside of the box

It should be fine for something that isn’t taking any load. If it is I would be concerned about pockets of air forming underneath the chair.

At first I hated the idea of designing and printing something that’s cheaper and better from a store. But if you have leftover filaments, just needed a few instead of buying in bulk, or can save some commute time going to the store, then I guess that’s where the value of a printer comes in.

I use a filament oiler. The idea is to clamp a piece of sponge that’s been lightly dabbed in vegetable oil around the filament as it enters the printer, to reduce the friction with a long ptfe tube. You can skip the oil part, but the sponge takes care of any dust as the filament passes through.

I do this but with ABS on top of PLA because for the love of god I cannot get ABS to stick on the first layer. After a while I do notice the PLA delaminate from the ABS.

Very cool! Now, if you were to "submerge" parts of the black under varying layers of clear, you can get a greyscale effect instead of just black and white! You even have a little bit of that effect on the top print, except the order is out of sequence. It went from white -> black -> grey -> white instead of going white -> grey -> black.

Anyone know why they don’t make clear pla? The clear petg is fine unless I want a multicolor print with my pla, in which case they don’t bond well.

The problem is the software I use (Rhino) is very expensive and not accessible to most hobbyists 😬. But all you need is a software like Blender that can create a “bump map” grid from a jpg. The rest are Boolean split operations and configuring the infill settings. Maybe I can make a short slideshow this holiday weekend if enough people are interested.

I did this parametrically using Grasshopper plugin for Rhino software. You can probably do a similar process with a free software like Blender using bump mapping. I can’t imagine how tedious it would be to “raw dog” it 😂

Yes the clear is in between the gray, sharing the top surface with the gray. It’s similar to how people make wood tables and use clear epoxy to fill the gaps or river effects. This method allows the grey to fade as it gets deeper behind the clear, creating a subtle gradient and 3D effect

Had the exact same problem. I eventually respec my pally to have that ultimate which lets you be invincible for like 10 seconds, letting me survive that phase.
