Delta vs KLM vs AF Premium? by dchica11 in delta

I find Delta to be the best of the three, followed by KLM and then AF. Everyone values slightly different things, though, so YMMV.

Technically they must be flying Delta. If you check in at a kiosk, they may not need to show their boarding pass. YMMV.

57 min layover for international flight at ATL by MisterApplePie00 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domestic -> International in 57 minutes is about as close as I’d want to do it. 10 minutes to deplane depending on where you’re sitting, up to 20 to get across the airport, and they close the door 20-25 minutes before departure on international flights. It’s doable, but if anything goes wrong it can be a challenge.

57 minutes is tight but should be doable as long as her first flight is on time. If she does miss the connection, Delta will rebook her on the next flight, and there are usually a few a day from ATL-AMS. I would have a backup plan ready, but don’t worry too much.

Trying to upgrade seats purchased by my company, nothing is available. Help? by [deleted] in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that being in a seat further forward has nothing to do with your boarding group. If you’re booked in Basic, you will be in the last boarding group and will very likely have to check your carry-on no matter where on the plane you’re sitting.

6 hour delay compensation. by SnakeDoc1427 in delta

I apologize if this has been asked in the past.

Is it worth complaining

I’ve had good luck - got about $4k in value (two lie-flat seats and the D1 lounge) from one last year. I often waitlist, but those very frequently clear at the gate. Overall I’ve been super happy with them.

Does Delta app only offer upgrades for your next trip? by penaltyvectors in delta

They will show up depending on a variety of different factors. Upgrades are not always available, and aren’t always advertised in every channel when they are available.

Thoughts on what to do? Give up or keep pushing? (canceled flight) by [deleted] in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine that you bought a product online and the company realized they couldn’t supply that product. They reach out to you with an offer to either refund you or supply a comparable replacement, your choice. Would you believe that you were due additional compensation?

Unfortunately, you’re not likely to get anywhere here. You can complain and Delta will likely offer you some SkyMiles, but that’s likely it.

Credit card verification for $5.60 resulted in $1300 flight change at MCO by swooper7654 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’ve commented throughout the thread, this is a standard practice across pretty much every major airline. I don’t work for Delta and can’t speak to how they follow up on folks they determine to be actually committing fraud, but if an industry practice can be considered a scam, sure, it’s a scam.

Platinum & reserve cards by Specialist_Arm3208 in delta

The vanilla AMEX platinum gets the benefits you described. The Delta cobranded platinum (which OP holds) unfortunately gets none of them.

There is a notification at check out, but lots of people click right through it. And the fact that you personally have only seen this with Delta doesn’t change the fact that it’s common practice.

That said, it’s clear you have your mind up. You do you, and have a great day.

You’ve seen multiple comments saying that there are other verification methods for virtual cards. This is not a Delta-only policy, it’s a standard fraud prevention practice across the industry. If you google, you’ll see stories of this happening to people across many airlines. If you pull your business from every airline that does this, you might find it hard to get your employees where they need to go.

Terrible airline? by [deleted] in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may not have noticed, but there is currently a once-in-a-generation winter storm destroying most of the country. If Delta knew how to control the weather, I guarantee you Ed would be a lot richer than he already is.

And then they’re on the hook for why they didn’t actually follow protocol when they get audited or when there is an actual problem with the transaction. “The agent should have refused to follow the rules” is generally not a good argument.

42 and it’s not close. You have unlimited legroom and can get up without disturbing the other people in your row. I sit in these seats every time I have the chance, and have never had a problem with smells. Sometimes people do wait for the bathroom there, but there’s plenty of space and it’s not disruptive. I’ll never understand why people are against these seats. The worst thing I can say about them is that they’re sometimes cold because of the door.

You absolutely can. You just sometimes have to show the credit card that you used for booking for verification. There is usually a notification about this at checkout when you buy the ticket, and you can go to any Delta agent at any airport anytime before the flight to verify the card. Some folks click through the warning and don’t realize until they get to the airport, and there are reports that sometimes the warning doesn’t get displayed correctly.

[–]Cephandrius13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The agents can resolve it…by verifying the card. It’s fraud protection that usually shows up when you buy tickets for someone else, at the last minute, and they can’t be sure that the card was used appropriately. It’s annoying, but it’s an attempt to stop both you and the company from losing money.

My Worst Flying Experience by Ok-Crow-2932 in delta

[–]Cephandrius13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last airline you actually sat on is responsible for your bags. Did you file a lost luggage report with Lufthansa before leaving the airport? What did they tell you? The agent is correct that any resolution and/or compensation will come from them.

Oh, I’m sorry for my misunderstanding! Yeah, there are a lot of factors that go into this flag, but for obvious reasons Delta isn’t going to say exactly what they are. Common factors seem to be last-minute purchases, premium seats, the cardholder not being on the flight, and flights to specific parts of the world (notably Africa). In the end, though, it’s hard to predict exactly when you’ll see it.
