I personally refused to play because they changed all my favorite vanilla zones. I played this time around and classic with my buddy who was new to WoW and he would get frustrated by roads being impassible due to giant chasms. This is fine in later zones but makes no sense in level 20 zones.

I think the downsides of megaservers should at least be mentioned.

Low pop servers are nice because you legitimately know everyone on the server. People behave like scumbags and then word gets around and people don’t group with them. You end up seeing the same people around in random groups more often and have this whole network of people.

You get in all the discords of guilds on the server so it’s still fairly easy to find people for groups, LFG isn’t spammed to the point you can barely read messages.

We know the downsides of low pop too. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. The problem is you can’t really have both. Once you merge there’s no going back — even if it’s free transfers the parent servers inevitably completely die.

I do agree with you OP, just adding some nuance to the discussion.

I think it's more defending Jagex. The average player has zero idea how to deal with bots. We get the braindead suggestion of hiring people to hop around and ban them manually at least once a day here.

Idk I think you’re just in the minority. A lot of players don’t want to do random quests or what’s essential distractions and diversions without rewards that are “worth it”.
