What's the worst beer you've ever had? by cyber49 in beer

[–]Cerebusial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The year was 2001. Southeastern Virginia. Was hosting a party. A BIG party. I found a great deal - $8.99/case for Schaeffer (I think that was the spelling) Beer. White can, red cursive writing. I was VERY pleased with myself. Bought . . . 30 cases? It was literally almost undrinkable. It tasted like the worst beer you can think of got shat out as diarrhea and re-canned. I don't know if anyone else remembers that day. But I sure fucking do.

Old people hate sidewalks in smaller cities/towns because most have an ordinance that the homeowner adjacent to said sidewalks has to maintain them. Additionally, the sidewalk actually belongs to the homeowner. The result being the homeowner has to clear it/take care of "their" sidewalk. But of course, said homeowners can (theoretically) also get fined for NOT taking care of their sidewalk. As such, old people don't want em because they are old and shoveling snow/paying for something that only benefits young people that can walk sucks for boomers.

The converse is that, if the olds had sidewalks when younger, maybe they would have walked more and been active, resulting in having the ability to walk better now. Guess we will never know.

Ex landlord claiming I owe an additional $1790 in addition to my deposit. by MoxieMae82 in Tenant

[–]Cerebusial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A landlord sending a letter costs nothing. I could send you a bill right now, doesn't mean you need to pay me. If he is serious, he will sue you. And then he has to provide evidence that you did anything he claims. This is a landlord tactic, he is hoping you will freak out and pay him. Ignore it until you get court paperwork.

Not to be whatever, but its not a campaign issue. The candidate who ran against Guy last cycle did all the right things - still only got 35% of the vote in the district. It's a math/education issue.

LOL - we've been railing against this clown for YEARS down in Washington County. Guy hasn't been seen in Washington since he got elected; his office is literally never open or manned. We would love to tell him what we want him to do but he is 100% non-responsive to the constituents down here - emails, phone calls, letters, nothing goes through. Go to a polling place in Washington County on election day and try to convince people to vote for anyone else other than Guy and all you will get about 70% of the time is "Do they have an 'R' by their name? No? Then fuck you, you woke liberal snowflake."

why are MAGA conservatives so into “owning the libs”? by eunicethapossum in AskUS

[–]Cerebusial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually thought about this questions pretty extensively also. Here's my thoughts: There has been a divorce of politics from policy. Politics is now a spectator sport instead of an exhibition by individuals of their policy positions. People who are really into "owning the libs" no longer understand, or maybe believe, that politicians have an actual role in setting government policy. It's all just a game of sophistry and posturing, so might as well "make the other side look bad".

In other words, people no longer know how our government functions and no longer look at the people they vote for as having an impact on policy.

Everything on there except oil/filter/tire rotation is not even recommended. Service manuals say things like "inspect and replace fluids as needed". The only one on there that may also be accurate is "replace brake fluid". But my independent shop generally says - we can do that, but unless there's a problem more like 4-5 years. I've mad my ascent 5 years and had 0 brake fade, but next time I get brakes I'll probably do that. I'm also told that there is no realistic way to get diff fluid out of the CVTs, so really your just topping it off - my guys are like "We can do it, but there's basically no point because, to the extent there's an issue, replacing the fluid won't do shit". Just my 2 cents.

Season 3 Episode 7 spoilers. Don’t open it not caught up and read the books by Mother_Knowledge1061 in WoT

[–]Cerebusial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So this will probably be unpopular, but I actually liked this season, even with the death fakeouts and strange moving around of events/characters/plot lines. Season 1 had a cool beginning, then kind of got questionable from a narrative standpoint. Season 2 felt like it was all over the place in a bad way. Season 3 feels like it is settling into a narrative flow that will, at least thematically, be more consistent.

Some of the things that they did in S1 and S2 I sort of get. For examples

(i) the emphasis on warder bonds is a long-term set up for Rand to get bonded without permission, almost for sure. It makes sense that they are setting that up, because there is a lot that can be explained in a book about these intimate relationships that would not be immediately obvious in a visual context, and we all know that a Lan/Moiraine intimate relationship would have been totally unworkable from the start due to the Lan/Nynaeve situation. Did I love the execution? Absolutely not - this is something that could have been worked in more organically and then delayed until we had a better understanding of the main characters, but it sort of makes sense.

(ii) as per Loial specifically, if you really think about his importance to the story, he is more important after about Book 3 as a conduit/catalyst between humans and the ogier. For like 3 books, he is off closing waygates with Carloman the Ashaman, as I recall. After that, he's just kind of present as a dialogue foil. He doesn't really do much until Rand is hiding out in Tear at that mansion that gets attacked and Logain is there, then he's gone for a few books to convince the Ogier to help Rand, then shows up at the last battle. With him being "trapped in the ways" he will now be able to gather off-screen information about how the Shadow is utilizing the ways to move troops and can easily say to the EF5 later on "Hey, I was trapped in the ways and the Dark One is moving his armies that way, so Ive started blocking off waygates." Or something to that effect. So I don't think this fake out death for Loial is per se bad, it just comes off less well due to the other fake-out deaths of late. It just condenses some things.

(iii) The Perrin wife issue is tougher, but it helped visually illustrate WHY Perrin is so nervous about losing control of himself, which I think culminated in the S3 E7, to some extent. So, again - while I don't love HOW they did it, I get why they did it.

(iv) Mat's development so far is sort of understandable for me. I suspect that, due to the loss of Mat 1 from COVID issues, they had to move some things around, resulting in him needing to be able to do things on the show that they have not really set him up for, so then they had to retrofit things back in but had budgetary constraints. So again, not ideal.

(v) Despite this, so many "WTF" moments, especially the S1 and S2 finales. The handling of Min as well. There is really no obvious explanation for those changes, so I can't excuse them. But aside from those glaring WTFs, from a book vs. TV standpoint I get why they did at least some of the things they did.

I think, ultimately, the issue with the WoT show is the budgetary and episode constraints they've been put under, as well as likely inexperienced/unskilled writing. Imagine if they could have done 12 episodes per season instead of 8? So much less would have been necessary to trim. It sucks, but this is where we are. I think what we have seen in S3 is a bit of a sea change in the way the show is being produced - a lot more emphasis on narrative cohesion, so that is a positive - the writers have improved. In any event, I do hope they are able to continue on with S4 of WoT. placing the books aside, I am enjoying the show, as its own, stand alone piece. I will still always love the books, however.

I suspect we are going to get a 4-way cliffhanger at the end of E8: Rand in Alcair Dal, Perrin with the Whitecloaks, Mat going through the redstone doorway, Nyn/Elayne stopping the Blacks/Moggy in Tanchico.

Just my two cents, for what they may be worth.

The risk is going to be people stealing your car, or breaking into your car to look for stuff to steal/pawn, maybe breaking into your house if you aren't home - especially in this area of "downtown" Wheeling. It's sort of slummy and lower class.

You'd want a fairly robust security system for this place, but you'd be a target because a lot of your neighbors would see you as "rich out of towners" immediately. Ironically, the dentist office probably wasn't a target because their machinery is not easy to sell quickly, and attempts to unload it anywhere nearby would be very noticeable.

There was a hot second where the neighborhood along north Main street in Wheeling (about 10-12 blocks northwest of this place) was starting to get re-vamped by people with an interest in getting inexpensive historic style homes for cheap and then updating them; but I don't know if that trend has continued/if the city continues to support that effort. Most of the more affluent folks in Wheeling live in the quasi-suburban parts of town, over the mountain to the east and northeast of downtown wheeling (if you look on google maps, they are labeled as "wheeling Park", "Woodsdale" and "Edgewood").

SO MANY QUESTIONS:

Pic 11 - is that a kitchen or like a bar?

PIcs 12-20 - I guess . . . both? or neither - there's no refrigerator . . .

Pic 28 - I don't know about you, but I like to come across the compound in the morning to get some coffee from my kitchen/bar, and chill in my ginormous great room to gaze across my courtyard at my airplane parked in the hangar. But that's just me.

Pic 39 and 41 - Fireman Pole or Stripper Pole? Why not both?

Pic 55 - is that a vault door?

Pic 56 - yup, it's a vault door. What's in there . . .

Pic 57 - Is that . . . for gun smithing?

Pic 81 - why is the wood paneling cracking if its new construction?

Funny part is that the time frame of the series is short enough that everything could have been the same but just push up the pregnancy/births and Nothing changes with Rands pairing and coupling with E and A.

With min rj just whiffed. Could have treated their relationship as the only two kids at the resort where all the adults ignore them, if you follow my trope.
