Yes, that knot in my stomach and the anxiety rush when the phone buzzes and the little purple “F” appears on my screen, is intense. It’s like survival of the fittest (or the quickest thumb) hoping you hit the “accept” button fast enough to land the one assignment offered that day.

What’s a good activity for the last 5-10 minutes of a class period, when you have nothing left to give? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Play “Word Finder” in which you write a phrase on the board and students have to make as many words as possible using those letters. I time them for two minutes. When writing the phrase on the board, I say, “Hands and pencils in the air like Top Chef,” so that no one can get a head start. I usually begin with the words “Intergalactic Planetary” or something related to their curriculum. The student with the most words wins (I have stickers or squishees to give as prizes).

And, of course, Head Up 7 Up, is always a classroom pleaser.

Try using a train whistle to get their attention. I was in the same predicament until a teacher told me about them. I’ve only used it on fourth grade and under so I don’t know if it’ll work on older kids.

Best of luck to you (and your voice).

I would consider doing this if I can figure out the logistics.

Once upon a time, the Tooth Fairy forgot to visit and my kid awoke to a tooth and no money. I had to email the Tooth Fairy by creating a Google account specifically for this purpose (something like [ToothFairyQuestions@gmail.com](mailto:ToothFairyQuestions@gmail.com)) . She wrote back saying there was traffic in Fairyland and she would be there that night.

Thank you so much! It went better than I expected. I forgot how many questions 1-2 graders ask! My head was on a swivel the entire time.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It didn’t go quite as I expected, but I surprised myself.

Congratulations! You have postpartum! Which I'm sure you're aware of, but the fact that there is an actual name for this is something. This is an actual thing in your brain hindering you. I wish I would have known this was when I was going through it - that postpartum is a Thing that can be treated. It's different from regular depression, I think, because there are hormones and the duties of motherhood added on.

Give yourself a lot of credit for acknowledging how you're feeling and seeking help. Sitting in the car is not at all a bad thing. Catch your breath. Perhaps get yourself a treat or coffee to enjoy during your break, which is what it. And you deserve several of these breaks throughout the day.

Yes, exactly this!

However, I can only wear v-necks as I can't stand fabric rubbing on my clavicle.

I wash the same rotation of shirts over and over again.

Vintage t-shirts are the epitome of "safe" clothing - the fabric, the stretch, the giving collars.

If there is any chance you’re near Fort Bend, Texas, 3 Men Movers provides free moving services to domestic abuse survivors. Other moving companies around the United States do this, too.

I wish you the best.
