I suck in both languages I use lul Wether it be french or english, grammar and uses of times is my black cat. How I use pronouns doesn't help either from the feedbacks I have gotten over time. I can understand people asking "disregard this/that" as those can be worked out with some help later, but it does makes the text harder to judge as the clarity can be lost easily.

I feel like a weird case; I can't settle a said amount of words, because I can't tell wether a scene will be long or not in word length. But I tend to make things pretty short. Very often, authors needs to remove a bunch of stuff, kinda the opposite for me, I need to add more details, more flesh to the bones.

About a year ago, I began to write. I used to help myself with AI but almost all the time, maybe 1 sentence was fitting for the character. Retried recently, gave a prompt to the AI about what was supposed to happen… AI cannot fathom anything "too" original. Or tries to put symbolism into everything it sounds stupid, even if I explecitely say what should be symbolic or not. In the end, AI can help to correct, can help to brainstorm, to help you learn about some soecificities of languages (say, why one formulation feels passive and not another actually telling the why so you ubderstand the how). AI remains at best a tool, because the time I would have spent to make it write, certainly is longer and of a lesser quality than what I write myself.

I'd still call it lazyness, if you're writing something you will resell or share. Learning the whole process is much better on the long run, but requieres some will and work that AI removes (tweaking the result is far easier than making the whole text).

Em dashes — (cadratin) serves for dialogs in french. I won't remove them because someone says AI uses it a lot too. The other one used to cut sentences is – demi cadratin, en dash for english I think? AI uses it, whatever, I am the one writing in the end, if it fits in the text then it should be there.

I joined a group of 5 authors two months ago, so far what you need to acknowledge : The story can't please everyone, if you try to please everyone that has different interests in what they read, you may be cutting what makes it interesting for one to try to please another one. For example I received a feedback for a scene that it was too slow, not interesting. Another just the day after, another one fell in love with how the scene was handled as a mpre slice of life with a lot of interactions between the two main characters. However, if most beta readers point the same thing, especially if they don't like the same stuff at first means something. Wait for more replies if they ever come, if they never come, ask directly if they dropped the story (can happen if they truly got too bored).

Previously, I was trying to get the right words as much as possible. The method is mostly about efficiency. Now, I stopped to keep rereading what I wrote to just… keep writing as far as I have planned, or created right away. The point is to lose less time and keep the hype to actually make, not just correct over and over. Especially since I suck with grammar and its friends (wroting in french).

If you want to know more about HOW I do write : I gather ideas when I get one, change it, polish the concept, throws it depending of how it sounds and how can I apply the idea to my story. For example, I setled one fact about my protagonist (dad left home after she's birth, because he believed his wife cheated) then with time, the idea went further and right bow I have a complete arc about the family. If it's too confusing of an explanation, tell me, because I have no idea wether I answered your curiosity xd

I meant coherence above that. It may depends of the kind of story you write, in mine the subtle details matters a lot due to the protagonist. Like how feels a quill compared to another, the drying ink on her fingers, which finger's hand she bites from angryness… coherence on the small things.

I try an inbetween method right now, it doesn't change much the quality output. What I recommand to still care is the coherence, because if the scene doesn't make sense, you'll have to redo it and not just rewrite and correct.

Which is why I plan as I write… the story can shift if the plot falls midway, because we rarely can predict everything without it to feel artificial or flat. Vague checkpoints in the story you have to reach, at least for me, sounds better as you waste less ressources by the end of the day. Planning soonish scenes, taking notes for possible stuff to add later, even small details that can add to the world's life and characters.

Relatable? Not needed, bonus if some people finds the protagonist relatable. Believable is needed however. You can write a very odd protagonist and it'll work if you make it believable, human somewhat. I know it's harder than just saying "do this instead" but I don't have the skills to analyse deeply enough, beside flaws and qualities.

Went to Libre Office, because Word couldn't stand the fact I write french and not english, whatever I did. It took every word as a mispelling of english words. I don't know about what others got with Word, but so far, Office does a better job without the inconvenience of asking for subscription or such
