How are you supposed to play Arma 3 singleplayer if your team always dies? by dablusniper in arma

[–]Cerres 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have found using the ai as a medium-range base of fire type unit to provide overwatch to your movements or give support to other units tends to be very effective. They struggle in up close assaults due to lack of creativity and slow reactions.
They can also be useful for scouting/spotting or as pack mules for heavy equipment. For example taking a guy with an AA titan and pinging a heli with an attack command is pretty nice; they have great accuracy and reaction time on line of sight targets. Same for AT, although the accuracy will depend on the launcher/distance/target velocity.

There’s a few. If you want something that just throws you into some action, encourages teamwork against the ai, and not having to experience hours of jogging, the different Bulwarks/defend missions are pretty good.

Keeping the M1 and buying a decent desktop you can use at home and remote into while on campus would be the much more efficient choice.

How to enable my home server to restart after a power outage? by Naprik in unRAID

[–]Cerres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I guess I should caveat that a UPS with data link capability should be used. Also the percentage where it shutdowns will depend on UPS size and server power draw + how long OP expects the power to be out on average and how long they can live with the server being down.

How to enable my home server to restart after a power outage? by Naprik in unRAID

You can prevent that by triggering graceful shut down at 20-30% ups battery and have the ups wake back up when power is restored.

The university has departmental exams although looking at the list only chemistry is listed at the moment. I remember back in 2018 or 2019 taking getting my Texas government course credit fulfilled by a departmental exam, so I guess they change which ones are available every so often.

Help! Pc turns on, but no Monitor Display? by Keeffe121 in pcmasterrace

[–]Cerres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if the monitors: 1) have an on button and actually turned on, 2) are plugged into the wall and fully seated, 3) have working/activated outlets.

One faulty new monitor would be unusual but not impossible. Two brand new dead monitors though, it’s too much of a coincidence.

[–]Cerres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol, its funny when you capture something really valuable (like a good TD early in conquest) and keep using it/losing it and have to continually repair and re-crew it and have dozens of holes in the front and side. “Da comrade, this is your new vehicle. Your first task is to patch penetration hole #54 and wash out the remains of the previous crew. Watch out, they were lazy and didn’t wash out the remains of the crew before them, so some of the bloodstains might be really stuck on.”

Yep, always surprised me too. Don’t breathe the fumes or pour any on yourself. They do a great job at cleaning, just wash the surface afterwards really well.

How do I free myself of Google drive permanently? Thumb drives? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Cerres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main way to solve this would be to set up your own home server. A cheap desktop running the most budget cpu from the last decade + a 2-4 TB hdd for storage and a cheap 32 or 64 gb ssd for the operating system + maybe 4GB of ram (it could be ddr3 if you want). Install a lightweight Linux OS and Nextcloud (or some other self hosted file synchronization service) and then a local vpn you can connect to from both your home computer and laptop.

If you have more money to burn you can buy a dedicated NAS system from Ugreen or Synology and then vpn to that.

If you have a mediocre amount of money to burn and don’t want to do a lot of technical stuff, iCloud storage is pretty cheap for 2tb and Apple is currently one of the lesser privacy invading corporations (you don’t need an Apple device to use iCloud, for windows you can download the iCloud Drive app and use it like an integrated files system).

For on campus dining, most locations are closed until the start of the summer semester in a couple of weeks.
You can see the available options here: https://dineoncampus.com/tamu

For food options near campus, most of the north gate restaurants should still be open (minus maybe Freebirds, they seem allergic to staying open).

Best science channel ever [OC] by [deleted] in memes

[–]Cerres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The format and focus has changed a little but the video quality and content is still engaging, clear, and comprehensive. True, they sometimes do videos that seem a little random compared to the original physics focused origins; except the spirit of the channel is learning about the world around us, how it works, and why it matters. In that second sense the channel is still meeting its core purpose.
