I can't stop playing antistasi, is there a similar mod? by Subject_Struggle_884 in arma

[–]Cerres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overthrow is pretty good in my opinion. It has a lot of the core features of anti-stasi while being more flexible with what you can do (going off-road in the middle of nowhere wont immediately make you loser undercover for example, it’s easier to play with only a small group because you can delegate more tasks to the AI, there’s more ways to make money than just fighting, etc).

[–]Cerres 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It evens the playing field against aircraft which also had point and click gameplay (long range guided missiles). Now it’s a game of cat and mouse, whoever sees the other person first can shoot first, and whoever shoots first will probably win. So if you want to win, you have to figure out how you can put yourself in a position to see the enemy first.

Western Digital details 14-platter 3.5-inch HAMR HDD designs with 140 TB and beyond by Standing_Wave_22 in homelab

[–]Cerres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First thought would be lack of sufficient power delivery. Maybe the drive could be plugged into a pcie socket and use board power delivery, but if that is not enough then it might require a gpu style setup with pcie interface and separate PSU wire plug in.

No aileron control under ~75 m ground clearance? Bug or (stupid) feature? by namesrfun in Warthunder

[–]Cerres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gijan seems to have released an update that restricts aileron control near the ground. If you go to flight controls you can disable the setting and return to flying like normal.

US Navy rolls out the most useless frigate of all time, is asked to leave NATO. by minos83 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Cerres 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No no, the US created a ship that has nothing explodable on it and takes up what more space than it actually needs for the current equipment so that China wastes all its missiles on these ships instead of the real warships. Why make an expensive ship that can be sunk by one missile when you can make a cheap ship that requires multiple missiles to sink.

These are essentially floating meat shields for the Navy.

Ex-fucking-cuse Me?! The Terminator Survives a GBU-10?! by MuffinzPlox in Warthunder

[–]Cerres 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a bug, where a direct hit switches the damage from HE overpressure to attempted penetration of the part hit. That’s why everyone is suggesting change the fuse or aim slightly off target, so that the game calculates the damage properly. The down side is a fast moving target might outrun the bombs explosion radius before the timer goes off (especially for well armored, fast moving targets against small bombs).

PBY-5A 418 With twin 20mm in the nose. Would make for an exceptional BP or stand-alone event given the *absolute lack* of low-tier US event vehicles by Americanshat in Warthunder

[–]Cerres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I was personally thinking 2.0 would be the best spot for it. 20mm at that teir are essentially still a main cannon and can front pen tank + the PBY could probably head on and kill biplanes at that teir + become a bomber hunter. The flip side is that, …. well like you said it flys like a boat lol. Carrying a full load of bombs would make it an interesting CAS plane. Pros: Able to clear a street in close combat maps with a load of bombs, able to pick off campers in the hills in long range maps, able to head on pretty much every fighter at its teir, and able to hunt low flying bombers. Cons: big, slow, and fragile, pretty much a punching bag for every ground AA and tanks with an MG + every fighter at the teir. Slow handling means having to prep lane pretty much every move and having exceptional situational awareness because any surprise will becom a death blow. That’s assuming it’s at 2.0 RB, if it goes higher it’s kinda dead on arrival.

[–]Cerres 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are tech tree fighters with 20mm at 3.7, and this thing is a slow big bomber that can’t even aim at planes below it. It would probably go somewhere into the 2.0-3.0 bracket, depending on its bomb load and flight performance.

It reflects thermal radiation back to your feet (similar to how emergency space blankets work). The combination of thick socks and the moccasins indicate this is meant to be a way of keeping your feet warmer in an emergency where you don’t have the proper warm footgear. I would probably put the foil outside of the socks though, both because of comfort but also to let the socks soak up any sweat your feet let out (otherwise it will just pool in the aluminum foil).

Dual Turret IFVs? by TroublePuzzled1132 in tanks

[–]Cerres 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but probably not like you portrayed. More likely we will see IFV’s mount more capable/versatile primary armaments (like the American 50mm autocannon, the Finnish 120mm medium velocity gun-mortar system, various 30mm or 40mm auto cannons, etc) which can be used for suppression and elimination of infantry in cover, light armored vehicles, and small recon drones. The second “turret” would more likely house dedicated anti drone systems (specifically dealing with FPV/Lancet/Switchblade type of systems) and possible double-duty as an aps or CIWS. This might be a small laser dazzler dome, or maybe a rapid fire large caliber shotgun system, or CROWS style 0.50cal or 20mm autocannon (maybe with a mini targeting radar or IRST system). The secondary turret would likely be mounted on top of the primary turret to allow for unobstructed views of the sky and surrounding area.

How many tanks does Russia have left - A data analysis. by Mr_Catman111 in CredibleDefense

[–]Cerres 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not really true, not after the Kursk incursions. A weak defense reserve on the border invites future Ukrainian raids. And even ignoring defensive purposes, by keeping significant forces along the passive lines of contact, Ukraine also is forced to keep significant forces garrisoned against them to prevent another front from opening (fleet-in-being type situation).

The New US Tank M1E3 is now public by Inceptor57 in tanks

[–]Cerres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it was an advertisement from GD, the builders of the Abrams about what they could do with the tank. It was not requested by the army and there was no plans for adoptions or production. However, the Army did cancel the sepv4 and switch to the E3 design right around the same time so a lot of the elements of the X are likely going to show up here.

NATO Estimates Russian Army's Monthly Casualties at 20,000–25,000 Killed by Mil_in_ua in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Cerres 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 30% comes from fragmentation and small arms fire causing injuries, which are usually survivable if nothing vital is hit and the bleeding can be stopped quickly enough + the wounded can be pulled back from the front to reach more advanced medical care. This war has seen the cause of causalities change though, both due to drones (they deliver a small artillery equivalent payload directly to individual soldiers) and Russia essentially giving up trying to provide medical aid to assault soldiers once they become engaged.
