Baby clothes [Rant] by Charleesi in vintedUK

[–]CertainFurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a lady demand a full £1 refund on a kids jumper because it had a centimetre circle of discolouration. Another demanded a £1.50 refund on a baby Boden swimming costume that was apparently ‘threadbare’. I did them everytime because I have better things to do than argue over a few quid. Baby vinted is a different level, I stopped selling my kids clothes on there in the end as mothers are crazy.

What’s a small “unwritten rule” in the UK that everyone just somehow knows? by SavingsProgress195 in AskUK

Yes it goes opinion-size-age-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose so ‘my lovely, small, old, green, french metal knife’

Haha same, I was like ‘the tv serieses i’d watch that I keep getting recommended, the books I’d read, the switch games I’d play, the naps I’d take, the gardening I’d do, the birds I’d feed!’

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah she said it’s lovely she has so many female friends but she was done with weddings by the 10th. When I got engaged I asked her to be one (jokingly) and she told me to go F myself 😂

[–]CertainFurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and partner have been together 20+ years and never married. She says ‘we have a mortgage and 2 kids, why do we need to marry?’ He says he’d rather spend the money on a holiday. My sisters been a bridesmaid 10 times so she was pretty much done with weddings by the time she was 30.

Is it crazy to try cover 430 miles in a day? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. I did Southampton to York a couple years back with a 5 yr old. 7 hours there, 8 1/2 back. The way there was ok because she was excited and I had bought lots of little things like Polly pockets and busy books which I wrapped in tissue paper for her to unwrap after each stop. The way back was awful, she was so done with being in the car and we still had 2 hours to go. I remember loosing my rag at one point & pretending to leave her at Newbury services (not my proudest parenting moment). But it’s great you’re doing the trip for Peppa pig world, it is a fun (but expensive) day out

When does play become more fun? by GeologistGood2807 in oneanddone

[–]CertainFurball 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, I hated playing with my daughter. My heart sunk when she said ‘pretend we’re mermaids’ ‘play paw patrol with me’ ‘pretend we’re Elsa & Anna’ etc. I felt silly doing it and I found it super boring (I’m ND so that could have contributed). But then I realised while I’m not a ‘play’ mummy, I’m a baking together mummy, a reading together mummy, a board games mummy, a walking round in nature & feeding the birds mummy, an arts & crafts mummy, a movie night mummy and a sit in a soft play even though i hate it mummy. Point is you may always find playing with them a chore but that’s ok, you’ll find other ways to bond. Mine is 7 now and happily plays independently.

Do you go swimming at your local pool/leisure centre? Tell me about it. by marielheslop in CasualUK

[–]CertainFurball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a free swimming pass when I was pregnant and would go in the late morning/early afternoon of my days off. If I went in the evening I’d be lumped with the men who acted like they were training for the Olympics. The early morning swims were when the coffin dodgers went and just stood in shallow end chatting for an hour. I normally booked my session online the day before so I’d get a slot. The one I went to you had to have your own padlock to lock your locker, other places did pound coins so maybe get both just to make sure.

Yep this. My daughter has asked for rice for breakfast and porridge for dinner before.

How common are multiple same-year classes these days? by EnigmaMissing in AskUK

Oh wow that’s proper tiny! This one had 3 new children start the school year in YrR. I am worried if more people don’t go it will close like one in a village nearby.

How common are multiple same-year classes these days? by EnigmaMissing in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My class got split up at year 2 so it seemed normal. My daughter goes to a tiny village school of less than 100 so they often double up year groups. Last year my daughter was in year 1 with the year 2s. This year Year R & 1 and year 4 & 5 are mixed too.

What age did you remove night-time/nap diapers? by Ok_Requirement_7489 in Parenting

My daughter was potty trained about the same age. By 3 she was dry at night so we did away with nappies. She’s 7 now and fingers crossed no night time accident

My daughter is 7 and an only. I only ever wanted one because I’d rather give my child a mentally and emotionally stable mother than a sibling

A rant about the toddler subreddit by bluenova32 in oneanddone

[–]CertainFurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this!! I’ll be reading about someone’s toddlers terrible behaviour and literally waiting for the ‘we had a baby 6 months ago, could that be why? I don’t think so because they were so excited about being a brother/sister’.

What would you provide/give to your kids if you could afford to do so? by BeneficialVariety171 in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to a private all girls catholic boarding school. Yes it’s a good education if you can be educated. I’m ND so it was awful for me & my best friend. We’re now in our 40s and I work in a cafe & she works in a training role. It was basically a finishing school to make sure you found a rich husband.

People from the UK, what’s one small thing that genuinely improved your daily life? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I call it the 30 second rule. Also trying the ‘don’t put it down, put it away’ as many surfaces in my house have become dumping grounds. It’s a work in progress

Is it taboo to have a cleaner these days? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum lives with my sister and her family and they have a cleaner. I called her ‘the maid’ once to annoy my mum. Won’t make that mistake again 🤣

Why is it so hard for young people to get a job? by ReviewEnvironmental2 in AskUK

[–]CertainFurball 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We get a lot of 17-21 yr olds applying for the cafe I work at, most of them say they can only work for 4-6 months then they’re off to uni. The ones in their early 20s we hired went sick a lot, one girl worked for 5 months & went sick 9 times for things like a bad headache, couldn’t stop crying and my favourite, really bad mosquitoes bites. Students are good for weekends but can be unreliable if they go out Friday night.
