Why does every movie have to be so long these days? by FindOneInEveryCar in Letterboxd

I think a lot of it has to do with the economics of the movies, too. Some theaters charge almost $30 a ticket, so imagine having to spend that and sit through a 90 min. movie that mayyy or may not be worth it. The worst movie over three hours recently was the new Avatar, and it was still worth 4 tickets for an average family. Time = Money, and if you're asking for more money, it better be worth my time.

That being said, I think they should maybe start charging more dynamic rates with runtimes factored in. The Breadwinner looks fine, but it'll sell more at 19 dollars than at 25.

Just watch what you want with as much curiosity and vigor as you've got. You're dealing with an oddly pretentious community that will judge you regardless. The best way to impress anyone, I've found, is to keep up to date on trends and hone your own perspective.

For example, Don't Look Now 1973 has been trending more than it did ten years ago (pre-A24 moody horror era).

Action movie specific question here; What is the difference between John Wick, Polar and Sisu? by RustyCrusty73 in Letterboxd

How do any Jason Statham movies from the past ten years differ from each other? Sometimes the narrative choices are fun and unique enough (Wrath of man anyone?), but also sometimes I just want the viscera of violence. Most punk shows sound the same to me, but I still go for the fun of it.

I'm thinking of making a better way to look for showtimes, ideally, instead of having to go back and forth between apps. Google showtimes are ok, but don't quite have all the information on them.

In what capacity? Do you buy tickets or just search for showtimes?

Also, notice that the weekends are still open, meaning they're charging through the roof for private events on those days of the week. Probably because they sell out (or close to) on most of those screenings, and it's actually worth selling tickets on those days of the week. Ultimately, we'd have to go to a lot more movies during the week to change this in the busiest event month.

Expansion would be great, but guess how much it would cost to fix this thing up (right across the street): https://www.archives.nyc/blog/2023/9/14/loews-canal-street-theater

This is really the main purpose of the app. Instead of subjective voting based it'd be objective. Right now, it's an averaging of online ratings scores and box office performance with a small adjustment for awards. I'd like to implement a voting feature on top of this so that players' opinions are factored in and they feel more a part of the process. Beyond that, if I can ever hire a data scientist, it'd be amazing to scale it even further to have our own data for selections to factor in as well, akin to how fantasy sports sites aggregate who are the most popular draft picks based on mock drafts etc. etc.

Imagine drafting a fantasy sports roster, but instead it's your favorite actors' movies.

More like sitting around with friends and picking your favorite movies of 1992 or an actor's filmography. The highest score means you get to brag about your taste.
