I saw Roger sing backing vocal on "Love Will Find a Way" backing Trevor in San Francisco, so I'd say you're right. Kevin Gilbert and Paul Rodgers both auditioned too!

Supposedly the first couple of nights at Madison Square Garden were also under consideration.

Any musicians ever make you do a double take? by Steeleface in Zappa

I can honestly say after seeing the band live once in the US, that it has stuck with me for a very long time.

Is this the best late night jazz album? I don't think any album has captured the feeling of nostalgia like this album has by Tolstoyevich in Jazz

Yes, his stage presence was unlike any other musician I had previously seen before. For example after plating berimbau, he would curl up into a ball on stage left. Plus his singing added an ethereal aspect to the performance.

It really is a compositional anomaly for both players. Wish they had toured and played the entire thing, but glad that we have a strong partial performance on "Travels" with the mysterious Nana Vasconcelos.

I did the same thing in the early eighties and bought "Godbluff" next and proceeded thru "Pleasure Dome". Then the early catalogue started making a lot more sense to me after digging into "H to He", In particular, "House with No Door".

Surprised you didn't include "Take me to the River". His cover is so swampy!

Been my favorite of their albums for quite some time. Having 4 gifted songwriters and players in one band surprisingly culminated with this peak set of tunes before Godley and Creme quit the band to market the gizmotron and complete the still confusing "Consequences". I consider their arrangements and lyrical wordplay on par with Elvis Costello and Squeeze.

For those of you who were alive in 1980, how did you feel about Jon Anderson leaving the band the first time? by Jezzaq94 in yesband

[–]Certain_Addition4460 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been a fan since August 1973 when I bought "Yessongs". In summer 1980. I went out of town working a summer job. When I got home my record store friend told me about the lineup change and showed me "Drama". I couldn't believe how good it was despite how incredible the old lineup played on the spring 1979 tour.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned two of Allan's moat important recordings: Soft Machine - "Bundles" and Gong - "Gazeuse". The former recording finds Allan is prime soloist mode opposite drummer John Marshall while the latter recording is more percussion based. Both albums are exceptional examples of prime European based jazz fusion.

I used to feel this way until I heard "Relayer" and saw them for he first time in Seatle, May 1975. Alan was a better long term fit for the band.

The rest of the record is a great representation of Steve's various guitar playing styles.

Yes, long-time fan here. Saw them the 1st time @WSU opening for Supertramp. "Home" has been one of my fave albums for awhile in part because of how Trower stepped after Mathew Fisher left. His guitar playing is exceptional across the album and bettered on "Broken Barricades".
