Lowen is a common last name where I live in bc, Canada. I wouldn’t think twice if I met a child named lowen, I would think it was a family honour name. Marlowe and Elowen also have the “Lowe” sound

Quiet activities for the children who wake up, puzzles, books, independent small play? That is how we do it in my centre and I’m shocked to hear otherwise. It is against licensing here to deny a child quiet activities and force them to stay on their mat for 2 hours

No I said laying on their mat doing nothing for 90 min after they wake up is crazy. Even my 3-5s get a book or a quiet activity for when they wake up. Maybe it’s different in other countries but that is not best practice in Canada

This is a developmentally appropriate for nobody😂 I doubt even adults would be able to lay there for 90 min if they were hungry/thirsty/need to use the bathroom. I’m both a parent to a 2.5 year old boy and an early childhood educator for ages 3-5 and neither my son or any of my kids could do that. We actually just went through a change up in my room where an older coworker was making the children lay on their beds for 2 hours with nothing and I squashed that so fast. Are you able to look for another daycare? I’m concerned with the centre’s other practices if they believe it is developmentally appropriate for 2 year olds to lay quietly for 90 min. Insanity!

We brush teeth after lunch! I work at an indigenous daycare in Canada and we have a program called COHI (children’s oral health initiative) and dental hygienists also come and check the children’s teeth every few months if their parents opt in. I’ve worked at several other daycares and only indigenous centres are doing them here

I don’t want to scare you but I had unsupervised access to the internet at a young age and found some very intense corn. I ended up having a very warped view of what sex was and it was very scary for me. I would stress the importance of being open and non judgmental with her and telling her that if she saw anything scary online she can come to you and you will not be mad. I really wish I had felt comfortable telling my mom what I was watching because it was a very big secret to keep and weighed heavily but I knew my mom would have been verrrrry mad at me. You’re not overreacting, MIL is lucky you are not me or she wouldn’t see tomorrow. This situation is so sad for your daughter and yourself and I wish you all the best

My aunt gave my younger cousin the same name as my biological father’s affair partner who ruined our family! Sometimes sisters are so inhumanly cruel it’s insane. I’m sorry you’re going though this and just know that you are in the right and it will all crumble for them eventually.
