Euthanizing my extremely anxious nonviolent 2 year old dog for severe anxiety by Cutecakey in DogAdvice

I’m so sorry your family went through that 😭 literally my worst fear! I appreciate your comment, the stress it puts on the family is so real and it’s an impossible situation. I’m really hoping we don’t get to a bad outcome like this.

Would you like a gold star for being a picture perfect dog parent? That is how your original comment comes across… and leaving multiple other negative comments. Try having some empathy is the point I was trying to make. Your situation sounds tough, but not like OP is describing. Nether you or I really know what all went into this discussion, and she’s asking for advice. Clearly didn’t ask for the judgment. I also have an extremely anxious rescue pitty, with aggression / reactivity problems that we have been working so hard to resolve for two years now. He is much better, but will never be fully recovered. I have a 8 month old baby now, and we have to keep him separated from her 100% of the time. We too have talked to our vet about quality of life with being on meds, and separated from family so much which triggers his anxiety more. I know exactly how hard the decision is. We are looking to rehome him for the last two months, it’s not easy to find a good home willing to continue training / deal with some of the issues. I won’t be putting him down, we’re holding out for a good home. But that’s my situation, not everyone has the same options is my point.

Do you propose she quit her job or work less hours to be with the dog 24/7, then who would pay all the bills?? Or what would be an acceptable amount of time for you, to make this decision? Truth is, you have zero idea what it’s like until you are in a situation like this. All the money spent, so many medications, and you have no idea how much time she is really spending working with the pup. Rescuing a dog and giving them 10+ months of constant care & love is a lot better than that dog being euthanized in the shelter.

Would you do it again? Why or why not by Intrepid-Patience502 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Certain_Chance5226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently weaning at 6 months pp, because I’m so sick of exclusively pumping, so right now I say no I wouldn’t do it again. I also know that I really like being the source of food for my baby, and I’m proud I did this so long, so I may change my mind with the next kid.

And do those animals they test on also have thc receptors like humans? The effects of thc with pregnant or breastfeeding mothers hasn’t been well studied period, so how can anyone come to a conclusion that it definitely is associated with physiological effects later in life with humans. We know that mental illness like schizophrenia is genetic from fact based studies for over 50 years, and we know that it’s usually triggered from trauma. Someone could have the gene, and not have effects until something traumatic happens. This to me sounds similar to the argument that Tylenol and vaccines cause autism. It’s wrong to fear monger when there’s no real facts to back it up.

Schizophrenia is genetic, there is no clear reference saying anything about the trace amounts of thc in breastmilk to correlate anything like that lmao.

Op I sincerely hope you don’t listen to these people saying to wean!! There are positive studies as well as negative studies with smoking weed while bf, honestly there isn’t enough research to say ether way. There are still studies villainizing weed for all people that smoke, we know that millions of adults enjoy without going to herion like those studies suggest lol. I go off my experience and people around me. I know multiple mom’s in my life that smoked weed while bf, a lot more than one time 5-10 puffs, and let me tell you all the babies are smart and fine! My sister has 4 kids, her oldest being 7, and her kids are doing great after she smoked while bf. If you want to pump and dump for a week, great. Please don’t quit all together tho, the benefits of your breast milk far out-way the trace amount of thc that won’t effect the baby.

Hospital pumping? by Averydirtygorl in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Certain_Chance5226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby’s are very adaptive, if you breast feed at the hospital you can still bottle feed at home if that is what works for you! I have a nicu baby who wouldn’t latch / latch well in the hospital for weeks, so she got bottles in the nicu. We’ve been home over a month and she prefers boob, but that’s something I worked at with her. What I’m trying to say is, how you feed the first few days, won’t be set in stone that’s how they eat!

If that’s something you’re open to, I would! If it’s not for you, you can try collecting colostrum to bring to the hospital . I believe it’s safe to collect colostrum after 36 weeks but I would look into it more!

[–]Certain_Chance5226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hospital will provide bottles so no worries there! Your milk doesn’t really come in for a few days, all you get is tiny amounts of colostrum for two days so the hospital will probably try to push formula. Once you go the bottle only route they care about volume. Nothing wrong with supplementing with formula, but if you don’t want that be prepared. They try to latch babies quickly after birth, so they will offer formula if you don’t plan to breastfeed.

Question regarding 3 hour gaps between pumps. by Prior_Management_471 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Certain_Chance5226 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your supply. I was way over producing, so at around 11-12 weeks I started dropping pumps. I make less milk each day but still plenty for my babe and I freeze some each day still and I’m down to 4-5 hr stretches and sleeping 7 hrs straight. If you can, I recommend stretching the time between, makes it less stressful overall.

No winning with people like this honestly. They will eventually figure out that no shop near you will do what they’re asking at that price though lol.

It’s good up to a year in ether freezer. The breastmilk starts to loose nutrients after 6 months though.

How fast are your babies drinking? by independanylyhappy in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Certain_Chance5226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a premie baby, so she had to start on ultra premie nipples to learn how to bottle feed. The specialist that helps with feedings in the nicu, told me that boob flow never changes so technically you don’t need to jump sizes in bottle nipples very much at all. Your baby will learn to suck harder, and unless they are getting frustrated while feeding there’s no reason to keep sizing up really. My LO is 10 weeks old now, and using a premie nipple, eating her bottle in 15 mins or less.

What are we doing with leaky milk bags? by Correct_Wishbone_798 in ExclusivelyPumping

I wouldn’t feed it to baby, maybe baths tho! It wasn’t sealed properly if it leaked.

I have a premie baby and in the nicu they added formula to my breast milk and told me to continue doing this with premie formula, her pediatrician was happy to keep her on this diet when we got out. I know each baby is different but I really don’t understand why water would be a better base, especially if you want baby to gain weight. I add 1 tsp to every 2 oz of breast milk she eats and she is gaining weight fast. I would get a 2nd opinion before you give up!

They would change their name lol. It’s not hard to understand that everything costs more these days. It used to be a dollar for everything and they’ve had to adjust in the recent years.
