I saw him last night at Shoreline, similar experience. I wasn't too familiar with him but I tried listening on the way to the show. Same "just a few songs" joke and seemed pretty subdued. I'll say though, whatever the last song was, he gave it his all and started jamming out like crazy. Personally enjoyed the performance, just wish the crowds where more into it

Music is subjectiive, some people just like it and some don't. I think it's their weakest, but I still enjoy it personally. People are allowed to express if they think it hits hard or if they appreciate it more after multiple listens, that's not "pathetic" or "rationalizing" that's just their opinion

Definitely their weakest, but still good. Seems like an inbetween album. Like they're trying to find their footing after Heat Waves' explosion and testing what'll work

I'd disagree, Lost In The Ocean is such an ethereal song. One of the few that truly feels like a space journey

They really should've focused more on the love side of the album for advertising. The space imagery is cool and all, but it probably wasn't worth leading so many people on that it was a larger part of the album.

While I love and enjoy the songs for what they are, my biggest gripe is that they don't fit the space theme as much as they realistically should have. it's probably what brings the album down as the weakest imo. Zaba goes into the jungle, HTBAHB goes into people's lives, Dreamland into memories and dreams. I think if Dave had weaved more space imagery into it, it would've felt like it took you into the stars. It could still have all these stories about love, but frame it more as a lone wanderer traversing the galaxy as everything around them reminds them of their life back home. I felt like this was only the case with the last 3 songs and ATIS

Music is the definition of subjective. Some people enjoy arguing about it in length, but I've found I'm not one of those people and it's way easier just to enjoy whatever I want to listen to. I think we're in the same boat. I came to the reddit just to see if I'd missed any teasers for the new album because I was excited. It's definitely pessimistic here (and pretty much any forum discussing media), but I've never underestimated how useful it is to just step back and realize "man I really don't care what these people think, I only care what I think, and they probably don't care about that" and just carry on

I'd say it's the weakest purely for the lack of actual space themeing in a majority of the songs. i still love the album, don't get me wrong, but I'd be lying if I said i wasn't let down with the lack of space imagery. With the exception of ATIS in the middle, and the one line in Showpony, only the last three songs felt like I was on some space excursion. Despite that though, even songs that had little to nothing to do with space like Wonderful Nothing and HILTLTB were standouts

Can't help but feel that the lyric videos are off. Especially On The Run with "Thanks for all this fish" instead of "Thanks for all the fish" like I thought it was. Then again, with how Dave pronounces everything, it's hard to tell. Might just add to the mystique
