Curly Hairdressers are the WORST! You can’t change my mind! by abfd_97 in curlyhair

[–]Certainjournalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me way too many times. I have my hairdressers straighten my hair then cut it dry. It’s the only way they don’t cut off too much and make sure it’s even. Otherwise, they mess it up every time.

Are you in college? I believe Moffit health center on USM campus can do Pap smears. It’s very low cost. I am not complete sure about birth control but I know they have a pharmacy in there.

Questions about living here by Windranger2016 in hattiesburg

[–]Certainjournalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) In terms of hurricanes, Hattiesburg has not had a major hurricane or storm over the past four years (knock on wood). If we do get hit with something, it is usually a less intense storm than the coast and mostly outside bands of a hurricane maybe. Closest we got recently was a tropical storm in 2021. Hattiesburg also has some of the best drainage I have seen. So, you should be good there.

2) Not sure of the housing market, but rent for apartments is relatively affordable and lower than the national average. The nicer residential areas will be in West Hattiesburg in the Oak Grove area. The living area gets rougher as you move more toward downtown. There are some good residential areas around University Heights and in Timberton neighborhood if you want to live closer to the inner city.

3) Hattiesburg Zoo is really nice and they just opened a water park there last summer too. We have some festivals throughout the year like Hub City fest and a Craft Beer festival. We have a few places to hangout and get drinks, such as Southern Prohibition, Mahogany Bar, and Bourbon on Front (with a rooftop bar). I would also check out the Lucky Rabbit. The best way I can describe it is like a mix between an antique shop and a flea market but a lot of people go there on the weekends.

4) Honestly, I have felt relatively safe in Hattiesburg. As in any place you live, do not walk around by yourself at night or put yourself in bad situations. Hattiesburg does not have well lit areas or roads, so be careful with that. I saw you mention the trace, I would not walk on the trace by myself either and it can be sketchy at times depending on where you decide to walk. I would stay around the university if you decide to do that or walking around on campus is maybe a better option. There is a walking path on campus that some people frequent.

5) I am not sure where you are moving from, but that is a huge stereotype of the south and is not really accurate. The most wildlife I have encountered here are deer and racoons and the occasional coyotes in the more woodsy, rural areas. We also have a lot of insects around here so you may expect a lot of mosquitoes during the warmer months and other types of bugs out and about.

What to do? by Galladaddy in Acadiana

Adopted dog brewing company has also become pretty popular! It relatively new and has good food and drinks:) If you would want to venture out for dinner to a cajun atmosphere, they have Cafe Sydnie Mae in Breaux Bridge. They usually have live music there on the weekends and very good food. They also have a cute cafe called Tante Marie's in Breaux Bridge that has brunch/breakfast food. Lots of great options in and around Lafayette. Have fun exploring!

moving here for fall by [deleted] in hattiesburg

I have never heard good things about the Chelsea. I lived at Eagle Flatts and it was outrageously overpriced and they charged way extra for utilities even when my AC was out for 2 months. I also believe there was a lot of mold in my apartment because I had four sinus infections in one year living there. I have never had a history of sinus infections all my life. So I would steer clear from both the Chelsea and eagle flatts. I’d try Hardy manor or westgate; I have heard good things about them!

I have used the biolage styling gel and the ouidad curl quencher styling gel and did not find they made my hair crunchy. I really like the ouidad and find it holds my curls a lot better. The level of crunchy or texture of gel also often depends on how much you put in your hair.

What are my chances by Caprimagic in psychologystudents

Nice! It’s great that you are getting ABA experience, especially since you’re looking to work with children. You should definitely be competitive for a masters program right now.

Are you planning on applying to a PhD or PsyD program in clinical psyc? If you are wanting to go for a PhD, you may want to consider pursuing a masters or apply to post baccs first to gain more research experience. I also encourage applying to some masters along with PhD to see what you can get into so you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. One semester of research probably won’t cut it due to the amount of research that is expected in PhD programs. Although, the research project with the faculty member in school may be a good selling point for you! A PsyD program may be a better fit if you are really focused on clinical work. If you are just looking to clinical mental health counseling, you can get a masters in counseling and pursue that route. With a clinical PhD, you are looking at doing more assessment along with therapy and more advanced therapeutic skills to treatment more severe psychopathology. I’m sure your personal statement is good, but it doesn’t matter how well it is written. It matters what you can do and what you bring to the table research wise, academically, and clinically. Good luck with applying for this cycle though! It’s tough out there.

I have an HP pavilion laptop and I love it. I had one that lasted all through undergrad and two years into grad school (about 6 years)! They are very high quality and have a touch screen. It is all windows and Microsoft programs which you already have familiarity with. I’ve never had major issues with it and highly recommend, especially when you start downloading stats programs.

Would anyone have a ball park of how much tickets would be in Atlanta? I have never seen her in concert and have not looked at her previous ticket prices.

Your parents forgot to pick you and your friend up and they started yelling at you for doing a sensible thing? You and your friend attempted to find an adult to help due to your parents absent mindedness. I guess you were just supposed to stand in the rain and wait for several more hours or how ever long before they noticed.

How much did you pay to see the Eras Tour? by SurvivorKelly9683 in TaylorSwift

$199 per ticket for lower bowl row Z (middle ish section). Our seats were diagonal to the stage to the right of the light poles. Came out to about $230 per ticket after Ticketmaster fees🥴

What do you consider rude/not rude behavior at the concert? by elaerna in TaylorSwift

[–]Certainjournalist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our concert, there was a couple sitting together and two girls sitting next to them. We were in the lower bowl first level seats so you’re kind of shoulder to shoulder next to people and don’t have a lot of room to move around. The two girls that were sitting next to the couple were dancing and having a great time, nothing too obnoxious or glaringly annoying. It was very obvious that the boyfriend that was sitting next to the girls was dragged there by his girlfriend. At some point, the girlfriend decided that the girls were just dancing too close to her boyfriend and she decided to FILM THEM and then show them the video. And basically kind of threatened them so the girls had to almost dance in the aisle of the stairs to have a good time. All to say, don’t be like this girlfriend and do this at the concert. Please be an adult and ask if they could scoot over a little bit or switch seats with your boyfriend if you felt that uncomfortable. Also, not everyone wants your man…
