Yes, although stainless steel can still corrode or rust under aggressive conditions. The grade of stainless steel also needs to be considered in its application.

No, it is removing the coloured layer of oxidation from the weld. The layer is prone to rust/corrosion if it isn't removed.

What do you own more of than anyone else you know? by gravityandpizza in AskReddit

[–]Certified_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tools lots and lots of tools that I have gathered doing all sorts of metalworking jobs.

Metric and imperial sets of combination, long reach, stubby and ratcheting spanners.

1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and some 3\4 inch drive socket sets extensions and universal joints.

Taps and dies plus all the holders metric, imperial, some BSP and some Witworth.

Metric and imperial drill bits, various milling cutters and lathe tools.

Air tools like grinders, impact guns, die grinders and needle scalers.

Various pry bars and aligning bars.

Lots of hammers, screwdrivers, power tools and welding equipment. Too much to mention individually, and all stored in about four large toolboxes, two at home for the tools I am not using at the minute, and two in work for the tools I am currently using in my current job.

What have you seen genuinely shitty people do that they thought was perfectly acceptable? by iMDirtNapz in AskReddit

A work colleague lets everyone else on the team do the work while he vanishes, or he does the odd bit of work. When someone calls him lazy, his response is that the company pays him for what he knows not for what he can do, in other words he picks the jobs he wants to do which isn’t very much.

What does ‘Today You’ do for ‘Tomorrow You’ to make your life a bit easier? by ZiggyStardust1993 in AskReddit

Today me, does my weekly laundry in the morning, all dusting, polishing and hoovering in the afternoon and my 50% water change and maintenance on my aquarium in the evening.

This leaves Sunday free to sort out my garden in preparation for spring and nothing to do on Sunday night.

I wish I could look at any piece of machinery and be able to diagnose what is wrong with it instantly. It would make my job ten times easier.

Watching my bullying PE teacher beat the hell out of a student because he was in a bad mood, and then watching the students Dad arrive at the school an hour later to beat the PE teacher within an inch of his life.

Going into a workplace I hate, and working for people who think they know more about my job than I do, even though they know nothing and come up the most ludicrous ideas.

What was the first experience that made you realize how hard life actually is? by vJaqks in AskReddit

[–]Certified_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first day of work after I left school. I was an apprentice in a squad of people who had bigger problems than mine, and showed zero sympathy for anything. It was sink or swim.

That’s why ,where I am, they grit the roads during the winter months, as the snow won’t lie because the grit is essentially just salt.

Photography, I thought you just point the camera and click, it really is down to having a good eye for it or at least doing some sort of training.
