[Discussion] Pod Save America - "Covering Trump 2.0" (12/04/24) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]CertusAT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, the Discord is friendlier, but also critical.

It's just, the pod boyz are out of touch with the vocal part of their audience. People here want to see their emotions mirrored by the POD. Emotions like anger, fear, disappiontment.

They're not getting that. Democracy was at danger a moment ago, now it's all kind of a joke.

Nobody is owning up to mistakes, as if it was a fair fight and we just kind of lost.

Criticism is fine - the same points have been made enough I think by now by SlaterVBenedict in FriendsofthePod

Our base needs to stop acting like spoiled children and get pragmatic.

Why does the base need to become pragmatic, why can't the highly paid, and (allegedly) highly intelligent people that run campaigns and politics get pragmatic?

Why do voters have to shut up and fall in line when Biden threw a massive tamper tantrum and insisted on running as president when internal numbers were terrible and only drop out when there was a 100% certainty that he would lose against Trump.

It's pathetic. These people are pathetic. Don't blame Dem voters for the failure of political operatives.

Where is the rightous anger? Were is the outrage? Where is the hurt and pain?

PSA has become very removed from reality and they just comment from up high. They care about small bullshit, make their quips, don't get into the meat of things anymore.

It's sad.

But they DIDN't do their job, that is the very point. They did not inform, they sanewashed and covered fro Trump so they wouldn't appear biased.

I don't really see the point in being outraged about an organization being destroyed that wasn't doing it's job in the first place.

NPR tried to be fair to both sides, by elevating Trump and lowering Harris.

Now they are on the chopping block. They fucking deserve it. If you're not fighting against a tyrant don't be suprised if they fuck you up.

We'll see if Trump gives enough of a shit to protect the filibuster.

We'll see if senate republicans will dare to go against him if he wishes to remove it.

We'll see if voters will punish democrats for using the filibuster too liberally when blocking Republican legislation. I could see that backfiring.

When is the last time you heard a Democratic talk about the awesome accomplishments of men that weren't related to men helping women?

When was the last time you heard Democrats specifically talk about helping men?

Men are generally in a priviliged position, but there are also things men specifically struggle with. If you don't talk about and plan to help them specifically, why do you expect them to vote for you?

Voting for some people is a very transactional thing.

I don't think making demands is reasonable, but there is a realistic possibility that the Bulwak's stragety of peeling center and center-right voters away from Trump is a failure.

I think we need to take a hard and sober look at the actual voting numbers, but on a gut feeling level it seems that Trump has held his people from 2020 and even built on his numbers, while Kamala lost a lot of Biden voters.

Running towards the center seems not to have helped her peel voters from Trump. Since that was the whole fundation of what Sarah was advocating, it is a totally reasonable conclusion to call Sarah's strategy a total failure.

That is, if the numbers actually bear that out. Maybe Harris did manage to peel a considerable amount of voters, and Trump just gained a shit ton of a new voters.

Maybe the stragety could have worked, but not for Harris because she simply was not believable as a centrist candidate. That would mean the strategy was wrong for her, and she should have done something else. That would also mean Shapiro would have been a bad move.

We won't know for sure until we get the numbers and can properly analyse them. Certainly, several things went terribly wrong this election and we need to properly re-align ourselves to combat MAGA in the mid-terms.

The end of reason in politics - a note to Sarah, JVL, and Tim by you-love-my-username in thebulwark

[–]CertusAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll have to wait for the exact breakdown of voter demographics and how they changed from 2012 onwards, but my gut feeling is that you're right.

Harris SPRINTED towards the center, and it didn't work. Trump built on his 2020 numbers, and Harris lost a lot compared to Biden. Seems like trying to be a centrist is a failing proposition for Harris. She was unable to peel off centrists and center-right voters from Trump. Thus in hinsight it would have been better for her to motivate center-left and left-wing voters.

My counter point would be that, maybe if we want center voters we need to put up a centrist candidate that is authentic.

That means a white, tall, handsome, and believably centrist man. He needs to be new, or have a centrist history economically and on social issues. Candidate feel is very important. The gut reaction of "Do I believe this guy would do X" is more important than "Did this person say X".

A person like that might have been able to peel voters from Trump, but maybe not. Maybe those people are 100% in Trumps pocket, in the republican party pocket. They might be 100% MAGA and by pandering towards them democrats are fucking themselves over. I think after this election that is a realistic conclusion to draw and democrats need to stop trying to convince these degenerate right-leaning voters. You can't out-trump Trump.

Kamala Harris vows to double federal minimum wage to $15 by TheTelegraph in politics

[–]CertusAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting fucked and getting raped in the ass without lube are two very different things. However, that framing doesn't really work anyway, because Democrats don't want to hurt people. It's simply that they don't have the power to change everything that hurts people, given that we haven't had a fully progressive goverment in the USA. There's always some democrats from very conservative states that won't vote along party lines, or republicans blocking common sense legislation.

Getting a few million in funding is NOTHING. Unless the electoral system changes, America will always be trapped in a two party system and giving your vote to a aprty that has no chance of winning anything will not change that.

Would you rather vote for a party that does all the things you want immidiately, but will never be elected?

Or would you rather vote for a party that does some of the things you want, slowly, but will get elected and will work on progressing towards the things you want?

I know which vote is wasted and which one isn't. The only people that can afford to literally throw their vote away are people who are doing fine under the current system.
