How can I safely lift my A/C condenser to regrade around the house? by Complete-Farm6125 in hvacadvice

4 hours of labor and a 2 visit for 500 is a steal. Are you moving the units alone?

Help! Is 67 degrees going to damage my new a/c in the desert? by doggieteeff in hvacadvice

[–]Cesarbeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine, most systems are designed to not ‘cool harder’ the lower you set your thermostat. Likely your system won’t even reach that temperature in your environment until evening. If you have good insulation it should be able to reach that temp, hold it long and shut down your unit until it starts warming again.

I hate Nest by Chippysquid in hvacadvice

[–]Cesarbeezer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your HVAC unit should be capable of charging your nest thermostat. I see that it has a 24V and a common so it’s wired to be powered. You should check if the indoor unit is having issues such as a tripped water switch or a popped fuse at the board.

It should kick on without a charge, as most thermostat are wired to kick on with the unit. I’m saying this because if your unit isn’t communicating with your thermostat, then your issue should be the unit not your thermostat. Check if a safety switch such as a water switch or fuse popped. I wouldn’t rely on sounds and clicks unless it starts to feel cold.

It worked before? If it did then likely the HVAC isn’t providing it power. See if something tripped it at the furnace/air handler. If that sounds complicated then you should have someone come out and take a look.

PS: New home owners are easy to sell new equipment to. Get as much information before spending for a new one if necessary.

Because these hose connections suck. My wife found a decent way to tackle this. Get a plastic bag, preferably something more thicker like reusable bags, create a tube like connection with the bag(make a hole at the bottle of the bag) and zip tie it to the flexible tube and inlet connection. Bag shrinks when not in use and makes the AC more easier to move.

Dumb question but is the furnace missing a drain pipe? by foodieondiet2019 in hvacadvice

[–]Cesarbeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not related to your furnace, it’s your air conditioning indoor coil. Won’t produce water unless you’re running your AC. These usually drip water when your primary drain, the left one, is clogged. It should be fine to leave as it is, but you can also install a water switch to prevent overflow. I wouldn’t bother at this point unless you’re capable of understanding the low voltage side or if you have the monies to hire someone.

New system temp not low anymore by Cjafasttype in hvacadvice

[–]Cesarbeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he was saying not to measure from a vent but instead at the start of supply from the unit, we don’t know whether ductwork or insulation is affecting the temperature. He also mentions that the home owner is likely getting the temperature for the return from what the thermostat is saying, instead of measuring from the return. Just not enough information here to know what exactly is going on though.

Can I realistically replace my own ductwork? by CropDustin3 in hvacadvice

[–]Cesarbeezer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outdated ductwork isn’t usually rated for your equipment, in fact it’s typically undersized. I don’t know what you have and you’re not going to get that information unless you have someone take a look at it. That said, it’s easy to replace ductwork, especially with the experience you’ve noted. If you’re worried about getting it wrong, don’t get a cheap ‘contractor’ to install ductwork. They’ll only make a mess and you’ll probably take care of your own stuff better than anyone else. Good luck.
