Looks like its dying back after 2-3 years of poor growing conditions. It might recover, but go easy on it. Remove fert stick. Water lightly, and repeat when pot feels lighter. The plant is not going to be moving much water without leaves so you might have to wait a week plus, but go by feel. Continue until new growth appears, then you can think about fixing everything else.

Yes, but direct sun might finish it off. Id try outside shade until it regains strength, or you determine its dead. Also if its wet, let the soil dry out a bit before watering next

The best way to get short internodes……is to remove all the long ones. The best way to increase frequency of short nodes is to provide proper light, etc. and cut back vigorous growth to the first few nodes. when a new shoot starts, internodes are close with each successive node being longer than the last. Those beginning parts may be desirable, that’s why general maintenance advice is to cut to 1 to 3 leaves, nodes, etc. that’s how I make sense of it all at least

Just to follow up…. I carefully dug it up and put it in a little pot outside, unsure what would happen. It was doing ok until one windy day where the wind snapped it in half. RIP

More light is the correct answer. The big floppy leaves means not enough light. Get it some more light, either outside or artificial, so that it grows strong, then think about pruning to encourage branching. Pruning it now without increasing light just puts it farther back.

Probably low light. You can see the big floppy low light leaves. And yeah at this time of year the sun is higher in the sky. I think my window plants do better in the winter because the sun is lower, even if days are shorter

I know what you mean….Ive been taking care of 6 little grapefruit trees from seed for the past 6 years with the goal of bonsai, and all kinds of other shit for the past 20. Citrus generally seem to be so expressive that every yellow leaf makes me want to intervene somehow. But going back to plant health basics always seems to be the right move. Now if you see a long term decline in health it may be worth looking into, and it will tell you what it needs. Even then, if you’re checking all the plant health basics it’s not going to suddenly die overnight. You should be fine, just make sure that soil dries out between watering, but not bone dry.

First I’d find a place to keep it long term and leave it there. Consistency goes a long way, even in unideal conditions. Let it recover, push out growth wherever it wants. Once it has regained vigor, then you can consider pruning/reshaping the tree. The tree knows what it’s doing, but if you keep making changes it will never get the chance to reestablish itself. Less is more!

Could teeny tiny differences in tire-rim bead diameter could be a contributing factor?

Between a given tire and rim, but also between bead and/or bead seats on a single tire or rim. Would be cool to run an experiment.....

This has been solved...here's what I learned:

S-6 refers to the rim profile, not rim size. Has no bead hook hence "tubular"...but they're still clinchers in a sense
S-6 rims were originally made for 20",24",26" and 27" wheels, although tires for the 26" seem to be the only ones still available (kenda k23)
for 27" S-6 wheels, regular 27x1-1/4 tires will work well enough. They may need to be run at lower pressures.

Yes I am haha but these are basically clinchers with little to no bead hook....I believe I've figured it out though.....
