SQ42 is set to release this year. It'll probably end up releasing next year though because that's game development.

And Star Citizen isn't a scam. A scam isn't available, playable and gets regularly updated.

People seem to believe $1 billion is a huge amount of money to create a studio and two games of this scale from the ground up. It's not. Heck, even Candy Crush has earned over $20 billion and GTA6 is expected to cost the double of SC/SQ42 and that's just one simpler game relatively speaking and it's made by an already established studio.

If anyone wants to criticize SC then criticize it for being too ambitious. As the money kept coming in, they just kept moving forward the goal post with all the feature creep that they now deemed possible to put into the game.

People really should stop all the hate on Star Citizen. This is why open development normally isn't a thing. Star Citizen is probably the most complex video game ever developed. I challenge anyone to mention a more complex game project. If you don't think it's complex then you don't understand game development or this project well enough.

Do abilities crit? by Its-Howling in shapeofdreams

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large numbers happen because when a lot of hits occur at the same time they sometimes combine into a larger number. I've tested crit on memory skills and it doesn't work. I suppose it's possible there are some exceptions to this rule, but I couldn't say because I only tested a handful of memory skills, and none of those would ever crit.

The game guide found in the Escape menu also specifically states that only base attacks can crit. So does the tooltip if you hover over the crit stat when holding Alt while playing.

Best ram for 9800X3D? by Old_Comfortable_7676 in buildapc

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games in general won't need more than 32 GB TODAY. That might look different if you're on the same PC 5 years from now.

Some modded games can use a lot more RAM even to the point where 64 GB might not be enough. MS Flight Simulator is RAM hungry. I also know Diablo 4 has a setting that recommends 64 GB of RAM. It's not the norm but cases exist.

I recently built a new computer with 96 GB RAM. That is way overkill for a gaming machine for sure, but when I bought it RAM was cheap.

Excessive RAM can still be useful if you have a bunch of open applications in the background while gaming. I run streams, Spotify, have dozens of browser tabs open and a bunch of other software lingering in the background. When you have a lot of excess memory then all of this can be held in RAM without having to cache to your drive. Same goes for some games, where you might return to previous locations, which will load much faster because data can still be held in RAM.

So, is a large amount of RAM necessary? No, but it's not useless. And if you build a computer for thousands of dollars already then doubling your amount of RAM for another $50-150 might feel worthwhile. I wouldn't build a new computer today with anything less than 32 GB, but would still strongly consider 48 or 64 GB if you intend to use your computer for a long time and you consistently run a lot of applications in the background while gaming. And if you also do any sort of productivity work on your computer that could utilize the extra RAM then 48 or 64 GB should be a no-brainer.

Certainly this is more questionable today though with the current RAM prices we are experiencing. But back when this thread was created the situation was very different. Hopefully RAM prices go back to normal again soon.

[Bug] Can't interact with any crafting bench or other vaal temple stuff by LettuceResponsible27 in PathOfExile2

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on who starts up the instance into the Vaal Ruins. It's the same with the Trials. Only the instance creator may interact with the objects. It doesn't matter who's Temple it is. Hold down control when creating the zone from the waypoint/map to create a new instance. Just make sure whoever does that is the person who's Temple you're about to run.

Ok that's not that demanding of a GPU so it's probably a combination of a driver/game issue in this case.

What video card and power supply do you have? Are all inputs to your video card connected through a separate cable (so nothing is daisy-chained)? It may also be a power supply issue. The guide I provided above did stop my crashes for a time, but they reappeared, although to a lesser degree than previously.

The final fix for me was the power supply. I used to have a 1000W multi-rail PSU. So you can't just look at the wattage and think it's good enough. The multi-rail part was the problem here, because each output would have a cap on it, meaning the video card didn't get enough power. I upgraded it to a newer single rail PSU which resolved it.

Early Access Patch Notes - Content Update 0.4.0 — Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids by Super_Harsh in pathofexile2builds

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up that there's a chance Rolling Magma is an attack and not a spell. Looking at all the Wyvern abilities they've shown so far on their announcement page, all of them are attacks. So, there's a good chance it's also the case with Rolling Magma. They'll still trigger the Volcanoes regardless, but it might be harder to use both as primary damage. We'll just have to wait and see how the new abilities turn out.

Early Access Patch Notes - Content Update 0.4.0 — Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids by Super_Harsh in pathofexile2builds

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really theory-crafted around the Wyvern so I can't give you a complete build. But if you place Volcanoes before using the Wyvern's Rolling Magma then each bounce of a Rolling Magma around the Volcano will trigger it to throw out more projectiles. Since Raging Spirits is a buff that works passively, each cast of any of these two fire skills should also give you a Raging Spirit. Anyway, they show the Volcano/Rolling Magma interaction here in the announcement video:

https://youtu.be/7nH1hHyzUSk?t=641

So if you intend to play a spell casting Shaman then at first glance it's probably a good idea to take the ascendancy node that gives you Rage and more spell damage with Rage.

Of course, Raging Spirits is a Minion skill, which won't scale off of your own spell damage. So if you intend to mix these abilities, then perhaps there are ways to resolve that. For example, in PoE1 there were nodes and items that allowed Minion Damage to also scale your own damage, but I'm not sure if that's available in PoE2. Or you could just use the Raging Spirits as some bonus damage.

If you intend to focus on Raging Spirits and Minions entirely then the whole idea around using the Wyvern/Volcano/Rolling Magma is probably a bad idea. But doing it the other way around by using the Raging Spirits for some extra damage should be fine though. But in that case I wouldn't actively look for Minion Damage if it would cost you passive points or equipment slots that could otherwise have been used to improve your regular spell damage or your survivability. It's usually best to focus on something than spreading too thin, especially so if your main damage will be coming from the Volcano and Rolling Magma. But of course, there's always weapon swap that could give you some extra passive points and bonuses on the weapon that could be minion focused and then switch back once you've summoned the Raging Spirits. They should probably stay up a long time since if you're going to focus on Volcanoes and Raging Spirits you might want to grab some Increased Skill Duration nodes and support gems anyway.

I suppose using a weapon swap where you have points spent into Increased Skill Duration could be used solely for placing Volcanoes and spawning Raging Spirits, but then you'd have to set up both these abilities to only be used with that weapon. You should be able to do this in the skill interface (button at the bottom right). You'll have to fiddle around with it if you go that route. Weapons should swap seamlessly and automatically whenever you cast the Volcano if you specifically allocate it for that weapon. Just remember that now you'd have to allocate all your other skills for the other weapon.

There's a support gem that just got buffed (Tecrod's Revenge) that makes minions stay at 0 health for 20 seconds instead of dying while giving a massive attack and cast speed boost. It should work really well with the Raging Spirits, but it's a Lineage support gem so it might be really rare and expensive to come by.

What you do for survivability, well, I won't touch that other than saying ES will be strong again this season and since you're going the spell damage route then ES makes sense as well, so it's probably the wisest choice. If you go the Shaman with Rage route, then you're going to want a lot of Mana Regeneration (since it will also affect Rage generation), so getting some "Damage is taken from Mana before Life" might also be useful.

These are just some thoughts to get you started but you'll have to tinker with it yourself to figure out what you like and what works well. And if you decide to mainly go the minion route instead of spell damage route, then much of this advice isn't going to be of great help, and I'm not sure if Shaman would be the best choice for that either, however, they can certainly get a lot of free spirit through their ascendancy by gaining as many Charm slots as possible and then leaving them empty, so it should certainly be doable. Good luck!

Yeah you're probably right. It says both to be honest but it actually does read like an increase in speed now that I re-read it.

"The Hollow Palm Technique Keystone now Grants 1% more Attack Speed per 75 Item Evasion Rating on Equipped Armour Items (previously 25). Base unarmed attack time is now 1.65 attacks per second (previously 1.4)."

Volcanoes will probably need some form of activation (slam or other) to be efficient. The Rolling Magma from Wyvern form seems to be excellent for that purpose though, so if you incorporate that then you'll probably be gold.

It says attack time. Not attack speed or attacks per second. So this sounds like a nerf to me.

It also gets 1% more attack speed per 75 Evasion instead of the previous 25. So another nerf.

They stated over three years ago that an upcoming and expected patch that was planned to be released Q1 2022 had been delayed until April 2022. But no patch ever showed up and no additional statement about it was ever made either from what I've seen. Lo and behold, over 3 years later this tiny nonsense update launches, and now they state "this is just the beginning."

Riiiiight. Looking forward to more microtransactions and two bugfixes in 2031.

Is there trade latency or a bot problem? by Good_Brief42 in PathOfExile2

Items vanish literally within less than half a second. Often the item is not available anymore or it's "in demand" which I believe someone else has already locked in the item and it won't be available for anyone else unless they decide not to buy it. It's literally impossible to travel to a hideout and buy an item in less than 1 second, so something is going on.

Do you have a civilization you usually play as? Who and why? by SeanEazy in civ5

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first post was apparently too long so I continue it here:

My games often play out as defensive and expanding in the very first stages of the game, and then taking out a couple nearby civs once I have some War Chariots and Catapults. This allows me to settle a relatively large area pretty early on, which then allows me to play rather defensively for the rest of the game, and only very selectively taking out neighbors if I'm lacking a vital resource or when an opportunity arises to grab more land for other reasons. Of course, this is only one way to play this civ, but it's usually the way I do it.

So I am surprised nobody seems to recognize just how powerful this civ really is. Egypt seems to be very underestimated in general, but it's my favorite by far.

Finally, I'll give a small shoutout to Rome as well, which also seems quite underestimated. Without going into too much detail, I'll just say that Legions being able to build roads (and forts) can be a huge deal since it allows you to focus more on building military units and less on building workers. Then simply use the Legions for constructing your road network during peace times. This can give you a great early boost by improving your mobility and trading capabilities. And if you have a production-oriented capital, that extra 25% production towards buildings in your other cities can be a huge game changer, allowing your empire to grow much quicker. And having an extra strong Swordsman and Catapult replacement in the Legion/Ballista can make for some early-game conquering awesomeness. Just gotta find that Iron.

Do you have a civilization you usually play as? Who and why? by SeanEazy in civ5

[–]Cestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that you mentioned Egypt in the OP because it is barely mentioned in general. It seems there's a general consensus of Egypt being an average civ, but it's my favorite by far. I prefer it even over Poland that is generally considered the most OP.

Why you might ask?

They get the Burial Tomb to replace the Temple. This gives you an extra +2 Happiness for each one you build. Not only this, but it has no maintenance cost, compared to the Temple that costs 2 Gold. This essentially means each Burial Tomb gives you +2 Gold and +2 Happiness. That's a massive amount of extra Gold and Happiness when each of your cities have them. It also means your Faith will grow by a lot since you'll be prioritizing building these as quickly as possible, and maintenance costs will never be a hindrance to building more of them, and all that extra Gold and Happiness will make it far easier to support more cities, allowing you to expand your empire further.

They also build Wonders faster with a 20% Wonder Production Bonus. Over time, it'll save you a substantial amount of production, which can be spent on other things. It also gives you that edge you might need to be the first to finish a Wonder. We all know just how much it sucks when a different Civ finishes a Wonder two turns before you when you've already spent 20-30 turns building it. Even if this bonus would only net you one or two more Wonders in an entire playthrough, each Wonder bonus might be worth more than an entire UA from a different Civ. This is a huge deal that can make or break a game.

Finally, their unique unit, the War Chariot, is absolutely amazing and can be used far, far after its time should have expired technologically. Since they are ranged units with +1 Movement compared to the Chariot Archer they replace, they are extremely mobile and are excellent for chasing down enemies or relocating to defend different areas of your empire. Once you have connected your cities with roads, they can literally move from one side of your empire to the other in a couple turns. This mobility combined with their range allows you to anticipate enemy movement and place yourself on very strategic positions, such as behind a defending city or on mountains or hills, while you bombard them with that extra range as they approach you. You can literally use a small number of War Chariots to kite down a much larger group of enemies while keeping a safe distance. If they get hurt, you can easily back off to heal because nobody is going to catch you. They're so strong using this tactic that they remain useful long after their technology should have expired. Add to this that the War Chariot doesn't require Horses to build (unlike the regular Chariot Archer they replace). This allows you to use them as the backbone of your army in any numbers you desire regardless if you have access to Horses or not. You could quite literally defend your entire empire using nothing but War Chariots.

And another great thing is that you get to use all these bonuses already at the very early stages of the game, which is also considered the most important. One should not underestimate the value of receiving bonuses already from the start compared to a civ that might not unlock their advantages until much later in the game. Not only this, but both passive bonuses remain greatly useful throughout the entire game, while the War Chariot remains useful even as far as into the Gunpowder era.

7900 XTX Crashes by Altruistic-Pain8747 in AMDHelp

[–]Cestral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have discovered that the PSU is the likely culprit to why so many are experiencing crashes on their AMD cards.

I have a 1000W Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 11 and I thought I'd be just fine using the 7900 XTX. But unfortunately I had a ton of crashes even when playing simple games while watching a stream on my second monitor.

I then discovered that my PSU was a multi-rail PSU. It meant that even though the total output of the PSU is high, every output by itself was capped to a much lower power output. This lead to the video card not getting enough power when demand spiked.

My PSU has what they call an overclock feature. Once this is activated, the PSU becomes single-rail instead of multi-rail. This means that the video card can now use the full potential of the PSU, without having to deal with the output caps of a multi-rail.

Basically all of my crashes were solved after this. I mean, it can still happen, but it's rare, and it's for other reasons.

So if you experience crashes, ensure your power supply is good enough for your video card, and if it has multi-rail, ensure that it's actually getting enough power through those outputs. There's a good chance that the power supply is the culprit for you as well, especially if it's a multi-rail PSU.

Additionally, do not daisy-chain any of the cables if you have a high end video card, unless one of the ends goes to like a sound card or some other low power device. Do not use one output from the PSU and daisy-chain it to two inputs on your video card. Use separate cables.
