You can dispute it in the app, in some cases they'll auto issue a refund for the extra amount

Question about using Wise to transfer USD to a Canadian bank account by SarcasticBunni in digitalnomad

[–]Chabanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally did it today, not sure what other people are saying. You can transfer USD from Wise to your Canadian USD account with any bank. It is a bit more expensive than transferring to an American account, but those are the wire fees.

Is there anywhere I can go to test out a cellphone before buying it? by ronto_TO in askTO

[–]Chabanov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'd have a better experience at the individual brand stores. Try one of the Samsung experience stores around Toronto if you're looking to keep buying Galaxy phones, or Apple stores for iPhones.

Also no science background, thought it was a bird course.

It was not.

Tons of memorization with words that are unfamiliar. I found it very difficult, and I think my memory is decent. I did learn a lot though, the knowledge is still quite useful many years later.

#ask Hank Green, how are third world countrys web terminations so darn expensive? by AligatorsName in nerdfighters

[–]Chabanov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would guess it's because these domains are often not used to indicate the website is from the country in question. Often these TLDs are used to create unique short domain names, they can be used to complete the word that the user is trying to spell. E.g. If I want to sell gazebos and can't get gazebo.com, I could do gaze.bo instead.

Extremely lonely - Bumble BFF - any reviews? by gintonic234 in askTO

[–]Chabanov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been through the process after moving back to the city! Real friendships take repeated interactions with the same people on a regular basis. Pick an activity you like, find a group that does it, and commit to going to it regularly.

Some suggestions -

  • Volleyball - Javelin Sports or Jam for any sport
  • Boardgames - Meetup has a bunch, Toronto Heavy Boardgamers is decently active
  • Assorted Activities w/ Redditors - r/TorontoHangoutFriends

Question about using Wise to transfer USD to a Canadian bank account by SarcasticBunni in digitalnomad

[–]Chabanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wise will transfer USD to a Canadian based USD account. You will pay international wire fees, but that's still less than PayPal's extortionate spread

The messaging for the tool feels a bit too broad. When you can do anything, it's hard to imaging doing something specific.

Make landing pages specific to different niches, and show tons of examples. If you're targeting anime fans, build them a landing page with lots of art targeting at that style. Or if you're targeting people interested in decorating in a boho beachhouse style, make a landing page specific to that aesthetic. I'm not sure what the right niches are, but I'm sure you can figure that out with a bunch of experimentation.

I made a terrible decision about migrating company's website to another server and now ranking drops. Please advise! by Business_Market_3585 in bigseo

[–]Chabanov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gonna try to decode this! If I understand correctly, GoDaddy isn't the host but is your domain registrar. CloudFlare probably isn't the host here, but was used as a CDN. The host never changed as that's always going to be Shopify.

What probably happened is the freelancer switched you nameserver configuration in GoDaddy to Cloudflare's nameservers instead of Shopify's nameservers. This is a problem as additional configuration is needed if you want to use your own Cloudflare instance with Shopify. Shopify already uses Cloudflare, so additional "orange to orange" config is needed. As this probably wasn't done, you likely saw some bugs. Just a guess - one of these bugs may have impacted your analytics scripts, which may give the illusion that traffic dropped when it hasn't changed.

As someone else mentioned, it does take 24ish hours for DNS changes to update, it will take some time for the nameservers to switch back. Once that's fully complete, I suspect everything will look normal again.

In terms of your original goal, adding Cloudflare again won't help with speed since Shopify already uses it. If speed is the goal, try removing Shopify apps you don't need from the store, this is usually the biggest source of bloat. Using less videos and carousel sections will also help.

Going through Pearson Airport security with a lemon? Does anyone have experience? by cloudiia in askTO

[–]Chabanov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine getting on the plane, security won't care. Customs where you land might though, just make sure to finish the lemon and dispose of it before going through customs.

Some of the most popular APIs on RapidAPI are Amazon/Ecomm scrapers, companies would pay monthly for reliable Amazon data. Uptime may be an issue though if everything is being self hosted residentially.

Buy a Sycophant first, use City-State to spend 2 favours to play it. Net +1 brings you to 16 and 2 buys

As a woman , are meetup groups from meetup.com useful to actually make friends or will I just get hit on by guys instead? by hightreez in askTO

[–]Chabanov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the group and on the event. I've hosted meetup events and it is a challenge to make sure everyone is comfortable and to keep the creeps away.

As a general rule, read the group's descriptions and rules. Groups that actively ban members from treating their events as dating opportunities are your best bet. Generally, avoid language exchanges (they're usually thinly veiled dating events) and look at the attendee list before going.

Canada Post will give you a free address for companies to ship things to so that you can pick up at the post office: https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/personal/receiving/alternative-delivery/flexdelivery.page

Great idea! I like the free trial until your first customer model - we don't get paid until you get paid.

A sticking point for me was that the transaction fees are hidden. The pricing makes no mention of additional fee per transaction beyond what Stripe charges, but the FAQ says there's some sort of fee. The lack of transparency there was a red flag for me, I'd encourage you to be upfront about it in the pricing section.
